List of installed browsers. What browsers are there for your computer: ranking of the best and worst

Today there are dozens of different web browsers on the Internet. Each of them has a multi-million army of fans and thousands of negative reviews. Therefore, when choosing a browser for comfortable web surfing, you begin to involuntarily think about which software is better. If you haven't found the answer, read our article.

What criteria should you use to evaluate a browser?

Expert opinions vary and various indicators are used as arguments, however single scale there was no assessment of browsers. It’s easy to guess why:

  • Firstly, users approach the use of the web browser too differently. Some people only need it to communicate on social media. networks. Others use it for self-learning/self-development. Still others use it to test their work and projects. And each group has its own characteristics, such as open source code, intuitive interface, performance, etc.
  • Secondly, any numerical indicators quickly lose relevance. Developers do not stand still, constantly improving and modernizing their products. Therefore, if “yesterday” IE occupied the last place on the chart in terms of speed, then “today” it may well be in the top 10 for this indicator.
  • Thirdly, the specific characteristics, which are often used for comparison, reflect the real picture only in “vacuum” conditions. In practice (due to various external factors), the situation often turns out differently.

Therefore, we propose to evaluate browsers according to criteria that are universal for any product. These include:

  • Security while working (blocking ads and pop-ups, restricting access to infected sites, etc.).
  • Versatility (availability of versions for various OS).
  • Relevance (availability of features relevant to the modern user and frequency of system updates).
  • Stability (frequency of detection of critical errors and speed of their elimination).
  • Imposition of third-party software (when installing a browser, the user is also asked to install a search bar from its developer, a messenger, or some other programs that do not affect the operation of the web browser itself).
  • Customization (the ability to adjust the system to your needs).

Modern browsers for computers

To make a comparison, you need to have an idea of what products are on the Internet technology market and what they are. Therefore, first let’s say a few words about each of the browsers being compared.

Google Chrome

Browser from Google, based on the Chromium browser and the Blink engine. The first version was released in September 2008. Today it is the most popular browser in the world (as of mid-2018, the market share was 58.09%). The developers place the main emphasis on loading speed; additional functions are implemented using extensions. Supports automatic translation of web pages. Minimum 2 GB required for smooth operation random access memory(which is expensive for older devices).

Mozilla Firefox

Initially it was based on the Gecko engine, but from version 57 it is gradually being transferred to Quantum, supporting WASM and WebVR by default. Particular attention is paid to supporting W3C standards. Mozilla Corporation has been developing and distributing the web browser since 2002. The main advantages of the browser are open source and maximum flexibility of settings, as well as the largest database of extensions and add-ons. Numerous built-in components deserve special attention, including a PDF reader and pop-up blocker. After the introduction of a multi-process approach (when opening a new tab starts a new process), like Google Chrome, it became extremely demanding on RAM.

Opera

"Opera" is a set of browser and application software package produced by Opera Software since 1994. Being one of the most popular Russian web browsers, it is adapted for many operating systems (including mobile ones). The initial versions of the browser ran on the Presto engine, but since 2013 the entire product line has been gradually transferred to WebKit and V8. Opera's strengths are its work with JavaScript, the speed of which is several times higher than that of its competitors, and the elimination of critical errors (all of those identified to date have been eliminated). It also very successfully implements support for various standards: all versions (starting from 10) successfully pass the Acid2 and Acid3 tests, which is only possible with advanced web design technologies.

"Yandex browser "

The Yandex company presented its Yandex.Browser, powered by the Blink engine, to the general public in 2012. Over the past time, it has not only become one of the five most popular web browsers in Russia, but also acquired interesting functions. Thus, it initially has built-in tools for supporting PDF files and working with office documents and support for Adobe Flash Player. Its strengths also include:

  • Smart line (which displays the address, even if you type its name in Russian letters).
  • “Turbo” mode to speed up work with a weak signal.
  • Mouse gestures.
  • “Yandex.Zen” (user’s personal news feed with built-in advertising).

To protect the user from malicious content, Protect is used - an active protection technology with several modes of combating network threats.

Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge

Internet Explorer (for Windows 10 - Microsoft Edge) is a browser based on the Trident engine (ME - on EdgeHTML), included in the set of pre-installed Windows OS programs. For a long time was considered one of the slowest, inconvenient and unsafe web browsers, which, moreover, cannot be removed without additional manipulation of system files. The latest version (IE 11) comes equipped with most of the features demanded by users. Among them: page scaling, automatic pop-up blocker, phishing filter, support for modern W3C web standards. In Microsoft Edge, more attention was paid to developers. They were endowed with extensive capabilities for creating and editing pages. For example, owners of touch devices can make notes and drawings directly on the open tab.

Safari

Web browser from Apple, included by default with macOS and iOS. In Russia, it is less in demand than abroad, but is among the top five. This web browser is interesting because, like Opera, it passes the Acid2 and Acid3 tests without the slightest problem. In addition to high loading speed and an intuitive interface, it offers the user:

  • Support for different encryption protocols.
  • Private browsing is an analogue of the Incognito mode.
  • Built-in RSS aggregator.
  • View the content, change the structure and design of HTML, XHTML and XML documents using the Web Inspector function.
  • Pop-up blocker.
  • Multimedia technologies QuickTime.

Since 2011, the developers have transferred the browser to the WebKit2 engine, which has a positive impact not only on its functionality, but also on security; the firewall has become more stable and reliable. With version 5.1.7, the browser began to better respond to low memory in the system and redistribute its resources.

TorBro

This web browser is aimed primarily at those who want their Internet activity to remain anonymous. Although it was created based on Chromium, the browser lacks Google Host, Google Cloud Messaging and other Google domain-specific functionality. Also, all scripts for collecting statistical data and automatic URL formatting have been removed from it. By default, search queries are conducted through the duckduckgo search engine. The built-in VPN allows you to independently choose from which country you will “access” the Internet. Automatic installation extensions from Chrome Webstore are not available. Each one will have to be downloaded and installed manually.

Chromium

This browser is developed by The Chromium Authors community with the support of specialists from major Internet companies. First released in 2008 using the free WebKit engine, it served as the basis for Google Chrome and dozens of other web browsers. In April 2013, it was transferred to the Blink engine, which made it possible to reduce the amount of source code and speed up the performance of the software. To protect against phishing and malware, the browser is equipped with a “Safe Browsing” mode, as well as a number of effective protective functions, including HTTP-only cookies, monitoring of plug-ins, and XSS Auditor (in experimental mode). As for support for web specifications, the latest versions of the browser fully pass the CSS3 Selectors Test and Acid3, and also support over 95% of current standards. An interesting feature is the ability to synchronize with any browser developed on the basis of Chromium with a kernel higher than version 5.

"Amigo"

It was originally called “[email protected]” and was released by Mail.Ru Group in the winter of 2011. Like most other web browsers, it is developed based on Chromium, but has its own characteristics. These include the social panel. networks (which allows you to exchange messages and follow the news of a resource without going to its website), a built-in application for listening to music, a quick action panel and quick access to favorite sites.

In Russia, this browser has a predominantly negative reputation because:

  • It is often installed on a device without the user’s permission along with an affiliate program.
  • Removing the browser itself and the additional software with which it loads the system is extremely difficult, because The standard uninstaller is not included in the browser package.
  • Amigo uses Mail.ru as its default search engine. It is impossible to replace it.
  • Due to the use of an outdated version of the Blink engine and a generally ambiguous architecture, the browser uses RAM inefficiently.

Vivaldi

Developed by Vivaldi Technologies based on Chromium and the Blink engine. Since its owner is one of the founders of Opera, the browser largely replicates its functionality. Thus, it contains a sidebar, notes, a trash can with closed tabs, and other solutions that are in demand among users. It has an improved file upload feature and allows you to access the address bar from full screen mode. Security tools also largely replicate Opera's anti-virus mechanisms.

A “light” browser for Windows OS, developed by Dorian Boissonnade. To run on Linux, you need additional software - Wine. Its architecture is similar to earlier versions Mozilla Firefox(including due to the Gecko engine used, which is now gradually being replaced by Goanna), however, it also has a number of fundamental differences. So:

  • In terms of customization options, it even outperforms the aforementioned Firefox (the latter wins only due to a larger base of extensions).
  • The browser has its own macro language, which allows you to create “ultra-light” extensions that do not in any way affect the speed of the program.
  • The web browser supports the ability to control programs with mouse gestures.

The browser's non-standard architecture and low popularity had a positive impact on its security performance. It cannot be secretly infected with malicious extensions, and for infected web pages it (in 97% of cases) cannot be recognized.

SRWare Iron

Like many other web browsers, this browser was created based on Chromium. It has been developed by the German company SRWare since 2008. In many ways it is similar to Google Chrome, but there are some differences. Thus, according to the authors, their browser does not track user actions on the network, it uses the latest versions of WebKit and V8 (while Chrome is stable). And one of the browser modifications (Andy Browser) even has a built-in anonymous Tor network with the ability to flexibly configure it yourself. One of the serious disadvantages is the presence of advertising on the home page and start bookmarks.

SlimJet

Little known in Russia, but a very functional browser based on Chromium. Included in the list of 12 browsers that Microsoft offers to users of the European Economic Area. Initially, this software was planned to be used as an add-on for Internet Explorer, but then it was decided to release it as an independent browser. The developers (FlashPeak company) focus on functions that are in demand in modern society: built-in ad blocker, tracking protection, downloading music and restoring paused downloads without assistance third party applications and dozens of other interesting features.

Sputnik

A browser from Rostelecom, released in the fall of 2015. Although the project is initially positioned as a national one, it is being developed on the basis of Chromium, which served as the basis for a dozen other web browsers. Distinctive features of the browser are a built-in ad blocker, a children's mode (to deactivate which you need to enter a password), as well as its own search engine with the same name. Despite the fact that the software was initially developed as a national software, its popularity in the RU segment is extremely low (less than 1% of users use it, most of whom are state-owned companies and organizations). Serious disadvantages are the lack of information (there is not a word about the capabilities and functionality on the official website) and the emphasis on those standards/formats that other browsers are gradually abandoning (a striking example is flash).

Maxthon

Cloud browser developed by the Chinese company Maxthon International Limited. Powered by Microsoft Trident and WebKit, stated as an add-on for Internet Explorer. The main emphasis is on browser personalization and cloud synchronization most of the available functions. The web browser is actively developing, as evidenced by the presence of options relevant to modern realities, such as:

  • Automatic pop-up blocker and automatic protection against phishing attacks.
  • Remove advertising banners with one click.
  • Do Not Track mode (similar to Incognito mode).
  • Resource sniffer (download any embedded media files from a web page).

Choosing a browser for Android devices

Today, millions of people access the Internet using smartphones, tablets and other gadgets. Therefore, when comparing browsers, it would be wrong not to mention their mobile versions. The most popular web browsers in 2018 are:

Google Chrome

The mobile version of the browser takes the best features from the main distribution: voice control, full and partial translation of web pages, incognito mode, synchronization support, etc. Its strengths also include: traffic saving mode, built-in safe browsing function, one-touch access to content, etc. Among the shortcomings, users highlight a not particularly user-friendly interface, rare updates, high consumption of RAM, the presence of advertising and frequent freezes.

Average rating (according to reviews on Play Market) – 4.3 points.

Opera Mobile and Opera Mini

Unlike other developers, Opera Software offers 2 browsers for mobile devices:

  • Opera Mobile is a web browser whose main features include: smart news feed, automatic scaling, private tabs and traffic saving.
  • Opera Mini is a browser aimed at maximizing traffic savings. Contains a built-in ad blocker, supports night mode, incognito mode and multitasking. The user can control traffic consumption and independently set the default search engine.

Among the disadvantages of both applications, users highlight the outdated settings of the ad blocker, which ignores most advertising banners, the intrusive “for you” block, and the slowdown of the browser when updating to the latest versions.

Opera Mobile average rating – 4.4 points, Opera Mini – 4.5 points.

Mozilla Firefox

This browser is designed for mobile devices running Android and Maemo. It runs on the same platform as the PC version, and therefore has similar functionality. The strengths of the browser include global synchronization (pages, bookmarks, passwords, etc.) with a laptop or PC, high level privacy while surfing the web, an extensive database of add-ons (including a functional AdBlock), “smart” search, etc. The disadvantages include freezing, frequent crashes and incorrect operation of some sites (for example, YouTube when watching videos in “Wide Screen” mode).

Average rating - 4.4 points

"Yandex browser "

Like its PC version, this browser is one of the 5 most popular web surfing applications. Supplemented with the voice assistant “Alice”, which is designed to solve small everyday problems and simulate communication. Interesting browser modes include:

  • “Zen” - the system independently generates a news feed that will be of interest to you.
  • “Turbo 2.0” – accelerated page loading even on a slow, unstable connection.
  • “Incognito” - upon completion of work, it erases cookies, passwords, Internet surfing history and other traces of your online presence.

Among the disadvantages, users note poor functionality (compared to similar applications) and a not very user-friendly interface.

Average rating - 4.5 points.

UC Browser

One of the most popular web browsers on Android in Russia. Boasts:

  • Fast loading.
  • A reliable ad blocker (with the exception of the latest versions where bugs were found).
  • Supports night mode and incognito mode,
  • Friendly, intuitive interface.
  • Traffic savings
  • Synchronization with any other device where a similar browser is installed.

Disadvantages usually occur after next update and are eliminated by developers in an accelerated manner.

Average rating - 4.5 points.

Orfox (Tor)

The browser is built on the basis of FireFox by analogy with TorBro, but taking into account the specifics of the Android OS. For full operation, it requires the orbot application, which allows you to connect to the Tor network. It has a convenient, intuitive interface and flexible settings. It guarantees maximum anonymity of web surfing, but is not without its drawbacks. Users are not happy with the periodic decrease in the speed of the browser; the problem is due to the principle of network operation and therefore cannot be eliminated. However, there are no complaints about insufficient privacy on the Internet (which means that the browser copes with the initial task).

Average rating - 4.2 points.

Dolphin Classic

This browser is known for its flexible interface settings. The user is offered hundreds of different themes and add-ons that will help make web surfing as comfortable as possible. Other advantages include convenient synchronization with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, the ability to control the browser using gestures and the presence of an “Incognito” mode and Flash support.

Among the disadvantages, users highlight frequent crashes when logging into social networks, problems with the ad blocker and the above-mentioned Flash (out of 10 games, 6-7 are launched), as well as a gradual stylization “like Google”.

Average rating - 4.5 points.

Microsoft Edge

This application will be of interest to those who use Windows 10, since synchronization with devices based on this OS occurs in just a couple of touches. For the convenience of users, Microsoft has developed an interface similar to Win 10 and installed a built-in ad blocker, which (according to reviews) copes with its task with a bang. In addition, the strengths of the application include:

  • Russian-language Qwerty code scanner.
  • Availability of night mode and “Incognito” mode.
  • Convenient scaling when reading.

The disadvantages include mainly temporary shortcomings, which the developers promise to eliminate in the next updates: problems with connecting to public wi-fi, incomplete Russification of the client, loss of sound when the screen is turned off, and a small number of add-ons for customization.

Average rating - 4,3 points.

CM Browser

A lightweight and easy-to-use browser, the developers of which set themselves two goals: to provide the user with fast, comfortable web surfing and to protect his device from malicious pages and resources. The user has access to:

  • Smart video downloading.
  • Built-in ad blockers and phishing site blockers.
  • Scan APK files before downloading.
  • Incognito mode.
  • Page translator and much more.

Among the shortcomings, users note:

  • Lack of support for full screen mode on certain smartphone models.
  • Not all advertising is blocked.
  • Problems when following links from third-party applications and when switching sites from the mobile version to the full version.

Average rating - 4.6 points.

Puffin

To transfer web data to the device, this browser uses a special, patented compression algorithm, thanks to which it is possible to maintain up to 90% of the processing speed in normal browsing mode. It also has an “Incognito” mode, Flash support, cloud encryption of traffic on its way from the application to the server, and other useful features.

Among the disadvantages, complaints about regular freezes and interruptions in the Internet connection and problems with flash games predominate. It is noteworthy that in the paid version of the browser there are many fewer such shortcomings (which can be regarded as a veiled incentive to switch to the paid version).

Average rating - 4,3 points.

A cloud browser that can be used on both Android and iOS. Due to this, synchronization is available for any mobile device based on iOS, Windows or Android. The browser has its own application center and supports gesture controls. Allows you to save pages and work with them offline. Significantly saves traffic due to the “smart” display of pictures and videos. Equipped with a built-in ad blocker, as well as a password, notes and email manager. Supports work in Incognito mode and night mode.

Among the disadvantages, users note:

  • Unfriendly interface.
  • Lots of translation errors making the browser even more difficult to use.
  • Frequent spontaneous failures and crashes.

Average rating - 4.4 points.

Boat Browser

A variable browser for those who like to customize applications for themselves. It has an extensive database of add-ons and also supports voice control, multi-touch, and voice search. It is possible to load the cache onto an SD card. There are many options for working with bookmarks.

Users are dissatisfied with:

  • Frequent freezes and crashes with loss of open tabs.
  • Lack of a built-in ad blocker (mainly due to advertising inserts in videos).
  • Noticeable slowdown when opening more than 5-7 tabs.

Average rating - 4.1 points.

Next Browser

The browser is suitable for both work and entertainment. The user is offered a convenient, intuitive interface with which you can:

  • Work in night mode and incognito mode.
  • In one click, disable the display of media files to save traffic and speed up loading.
  • Install various plugins that significantly expand the functionality of the application.
  • Meet with latest news, selected according to your preferences.

Problems observed:

  • During auto-update (freeze).
  • When synchronizing bookmarks (no desired result).
  • When working on social networks (frequent crashes)
  • when restarted (does not save previously opened tabs).
  • When writing text (due to the scaling curve on some sites, the text input window is not visible).

Average rating - 4.3 points.

Lightning Browser

"Molniya" is positioned as a browser with the most user-friendly interface. All buttons and tabs are hidden in a drop-down menu, so that nothing prevents the user from observing what is happening on the screen. To increase privacy when surfing the web, developers suggest using the Tor network (to connect to which you need to install orbot). Open source allows you to quickly find vulnerabilities and fix them.

The disadvantages of the application include:

  • Limitations of the free version (for example, it cannot open more than 10 tabs at a time).
  • Problems with encoding and support for some fonts.
  • Interruptions in the operation of Flash applications (in 3 out of 10 cases).

Average rating - 4.1 points.

A browser is software required on every computer. You can select and download a browser for Windows 7, 8, 10 for free on our website.

We have collected the most popular latest Russian browser versions of 2018.

Why is it needed? Firstly, it is designed to work on the Internet (and this is necessary everywhere these days). With its help, web pages and all kinds of web documents open. Secondly, the browser also comes to the rescue in controlling the machine, making it possible to easily view computer files and their directories. Regarding the management of web applications - also to the browser.

Today there are truly a great variety of browsers for Windows. You can download the best browsers for Windows from our website. And they differ not only in the shortcut that you see on the desktop (although it’s a shame to complain here, the developers tried to make each individual and different from the others). All sorts of additional functions, built-in extensions that give the user new opportunities and make his life on the Internet easier. One gets the feeling that developers from different companies are simply competing with each other. And, perhaps, somewhere this is true. The competition among browsers is serious, so you have to wonder how to stand out so that users choose your product. You can download several browsers and try them out, leaving the one that is most convenient for you.

However, if you strip away all the extra bells and whistles, the browsers look very similar. Even though different engines were used to create them. This is explained international standards, which all developers follow. They do this not out of despair (no one twists their arms or forces them to work ONLY this way). However, uniform requirements make it possible to guarantee that all information will be displayed correctly in the browser, and the user will not want to stick the mixer in his eyes when he sees the open page.

Browsers are distributed free of charge, do not take up much space, and do not conflict with each other (unless everyone definitely wants to be the “Default Browser”). So it is not uncommon for several such programs to be installed on one computer at once, following the principle “everyone is good at something.” This option is also convenient when several users work on one machine at once - each has their own browser, and there are no problems with saving tabs, bookmarks and passwords.

So you can start downloading from our website right now as many browsers as you need, and those that you like. If it suddenly turns out that you were mistaken, and the “nice label” does not hide the browser of your dreams, you can always replace it with another one.

The optimal browser for Windows is, first of all, a comfortable tool for working on the Internet. The functionality of the software is constantly expanding and improving due to competition between developers, as well as the high pace of development and implementation of information technology. Based on user and technical characteristics, and compatibility with different operating systems, the article presents a rating of the fastest and easiest to use browsers today.

A relatively new product has gained recognition among PC users. Among the undeniable advantages, the developers highlight compatibility with many operating systems, such as Android, iOs, Windows and others. After installing the browser, cache information is transferred to Yandex by default and is also synchronized through a Google account with other browsers. Users of this super modern software note:

  • Lightning speed of work;
  • Availability of useful services from Yandex: Maps, Translator, Mail and others;
  • Intelligent search, which recognizes queries and prompts the necessary information;
  • “Scoreboard” panel with a palette of useful functions.

Experts who evaluate the ease and compatibility of the Yandex browser claim that it is suitable for Windows 7,8 and 10. In addition, the software has a high security system, which is important in the context of growing cyber crime. I'm glad that the company's developers continue to improve the product, testing and launching new functions.

One of the popular browsers for Windows 7/8, Vista, XP and Windows 7/8 based on Chromium. Users liked the easy-to-read interface and loading speed. To find the information you need without frills, Google Chrome is a suitable option. The ease of viewing pages is also explained by the fact that the developers did not overload the start page with anything. It only has an address bar, an update and settings button. Google Chrome testers list the competitive advantages:

  • Stability and speed;
  • Ease of installation;
  • Rich assortment of browser store;
  • Anonymous search;
  • Regular updates;
  • Ability to switch between accounts;
  • Sanbox protection, which guarantees the absence of hacks and viruses.

Assessing the advantages, Google Chrome is positioned as the fastest browser, since it closes most tasks without imposing unnecessary services. One of the disadvantages of the software is the company's collection of individual information about users.

This is a free browser that includes a lot of innovations. The developers claim that the software will appeal to both Internet surfing beginners and experienced users. The trick is a set of plugins that are designed to simplify work on the computer. By the way, some additions were taken from Yandex. Main characteristics of the browser:

  • Visual tabs;
  • The ability to adapt “Fire Fox” to your priority needs using plugins;
  • Extensions are presented, thanks to which you can download videos from YouTube and social networks;
  • Speed that allows you to open dozens of tabs simultaneously;
  • Convenient reading mode;
  • Free technical support.
  • Free VPN that opens blocked resources;
  • Ease of switching pages;
  • Implemented express panel that allows you to work with multiple tabs;
  • Yandex Maps integration;
  • Convenient scaling;
  • Regular updates.

Suitable for Windows operating systems, as well as for unpretentious users. Low popularity is due to the presence of powerful competitors. However, Maxthon, being an old browser, has not lost its loyal fans. Today it has acquired new functionality and contains:

  • The ability to split the screen to view information from two tabs simultaneously;
  • Multi-document interface;
  • Protection against spam and advertising;
  • Designing your own address bar.

Despite the minimal functionality, Maxthon is included in the TOP 10 best, since for a long time it has been implementing the declared capabilities at a high-quality level.

This Internet browser is closely integrated with the Windows operating system, so it is suitable even for version 10. It is called a “chameleon” because it contains the powerful Gecko engine (the same as in Mozilla Firefox). For those who expect simplicity and conciseness from a browser, this is one of the suitable options. In addition, this is a designer that has clear development prospects. Today, along with the K-Meleon installation, developers are ready to offer:

  • Fast loading of pages;
  • Ease of navigation using hot keys;
  • Intuitive setup;
  • Integration with service departments;
  • High-quality protection against viruses.

It is also the best browser for those who cannot imagine life without creativity. The K-Meleon developers offer ample opportunities to change the interface and create a unique design.

This “dark horse” promises a real breakthrough in the future. Recently, prohibited resources, such as torrents, have been blocked. Using the anonymous Tor network, accessing such sites is not a problem. Proxy access in remote corners of the world allows you to bypass the browser block.

Interesting!

Search queries and views from this browser are not only not counted in the browsing history, but also leave no traces in the cache, cookies and flash.

There are a number of disadvantages associated with the fact that the browser is frankly slow. Therefore, watching movies and music is almost impossible. But this is an ideal option for users who want to surf the Internet anonymously.

A new browser that is adapted exclusively for Windows 10. However, due to the fact that all laptops and PCs purchased in electronics stores already have this version installed, Microsoft Edge quickly claims to be the most popular. The developers set themselves the goal of offering users a fast and lightweight browser, and they coped with this task with a solid five.

The developers position the browser as faster than Firefox while maintaining all the functionality. Ideally suited for those who are frankly weak technical specifications computer.

Another lightweight software that does not claim a large space in RAM and does not clog the processor. Having a minimum of functions, QupZilla is distinguished by the presence of portable memory. This allows you to bypass the program installation stage altogether and simply download the download file. In addition, the developers have provided protection and blocking of pop-up ads. And, of course, keeping up with the times, we ensured compatibility with all versions of Windows operating systems.

By installing the browser, the client can immediately take advantage of a number of offers from the company. For example, try DNS servers, which are absolutely free and secure. There is also the ability to autoload the browser in incognito mode.

Brave

And for those who trust, but don’t mind checking, there’s another new product – Brave – the most secure browser. A distinctive feature of the software is the visualization of the security mechanism. So, when entering the start page, the user immediately sees statistics and a list of virus sites. But based automatic locking unnecessary advertising, developers free up traffic and page loading speed. For comparison, a website will open up to 8 times faster in Brave than in Chrome.

Surprisingly, this small browser weighs 37 megabytes, which automatically puts it in the first place among the easiest to use and fastest. Like all modern products, Midori demonstrates innovative web technologies. Thanks to the rendering mechanism, the speed of opening pages competes with the more popular Google Chrome. However, Midori is suitable for both weak computers and outdated versions of operating systems - XP or Vista.

Summing up the parameters of speed, functionality and security, Yandex is in the lead. Browser, Opera, Google Chrome and Mazila. The rest are less popular, but have features that are to some extent superior to the cool TOP leaders. It all depends on the speed of the computer, that is, the processor and RAM. So, the leader Yandex.Browser is no longer suitable for XP, just like for Vista.

The developers, taking into account the wishes of users, regularly publish updates and expand functionality. In light of such competition, you can easily choose a normal browser, and it does not necessarily have to be at the top of the rankings.

Video on topic

Before moving directly to getting to know the heroes of the material, let us make a short lyrical digression and briefly talk about the criteria for evaluating domestic browsers that we followed in the process of preparing the review. First of all, the compatibility of web browsers with various software platforms was of paramount importance. The second important point we paid attention to was functionality. Applications must fully meet the needs of ordinary Internet users without confusing the brain with meaningless options. Another plus in the treasury of this or that solution was awarded for the speed of operation, user-friendliness of the interface and proper placement of program controls. The emphasis was also placed on the availability of security tools when working on the Internet, support for modern web technologies and the number of users according to the LiveInternet.ru statistical service, which allowed us to choose four main browsers with the “Made in Russia” label.

The brainchild of the developers of the search service platform of the same name, not so long ago, despite the media, additional funding from Rostelecom for the development of the project, including the browser.

The Internet browser was first introduced to a wide audience in September 2015. Features of the program are close integration with the search engine and online services of Sputnik, the Stalker protection system against malicious content, the Adblock Plus-based blocker of intrusive and aggressive advertising Advertising, support for multi-user operating mode and the presence of its own catalog of browser extensions (thanks to a single code base also allows the use of plugins from the Google Chrome online store).

There are minimal interface changes in Sputnik compared to Chromium and Google Chrome. The only differences lie in the slightly different design of the tabs and start (home) page with information widgets and the ability to customize fun wallpapers - where would we be without them!

“Sputnik” is presented in versions for personal and corporate use and is available for platforms Windows, Linux, Android, iOS. Browser to the register of domestic software and certificates of conformity of the FSB of Russia (for corporate assemblies). In the future, it is planned to certify the browser in FSTEC and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. This will allow Sputnik users to work with restricted information up to the “top secret” secrecy level. A product release for the macOS platform is also expected soon, the release of which was at the end of 2016, but did not take place.

"Yandex browser"

Developer: Yandex
Product website: browser.yandex.ru

The most popular web browser in our quartet, according to LiveInternet.ru it ranks third in Russian market browsers with a share of 7.9% (for reference: the leading position is held by Google Chrome with 56.9% of the Runet audience). It was first introduced to the online public in the fall of 2012 and is currently available for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS platforms.

The popularity of "Yandex.Browser" is due to the wide functionality of the web browser, including integration with Yandex online services, a personal recommendation feed "Yandex.Zen", an ad blocker, a "smart" search bar, support for mouse gesture control, accelerating the loading of sites and traffic-saving "Turbo" mode, web page translator, means for synchronizing user data between different devices and other things that simplify work in global network tools. A distinctive feature of the browser is the ability to view documents in Microsoft Office and e-books, as well as installing add-ons both from its own extension catalog and from the Chrome Web Store and Opera Addons.

Yandex.Browser is based on the developments of not only the Open Source community, but also the Norwegian company Opera Software, with which Yandex has a long-standing technological cooperation

The strength of Yandex.Browser is its advanced security tools. The Protect technology used in the program provides protection against password theft, security when working on public Wi-Fi networks, blocking dangerous and fraudulent sites, and also checks downloaded files for malicious code. According to Yandex developers, Protect is the first comprehensive browser protection technology that protects against most troubles: loss of user accounts due to a stolen password, computer infection on a malicious page, interference by strangers when working on a wireless network.

In terms of the user interface, Yandex.Browser is still the same Google Chrome, but with some cosmetic changes that affected the main menu and the program settings panel. Like Sputnik, it provides the ability to personalize and change background images, as well as a panel with widgets and tiles of favorite sites.

"Yandex.Browser" is included in the register of Russian software and is a solution recommended for use in Russian companies and government agencies. For such organizations, Yandex offers a corporate build of its web browser with support for domain names. group policies and the ability to configure in accordance with the requirements and objectives of the enterprise.

"Amigo"

Developer: Mail.Ru Group
Product website: amigo.mail.ru

Perhaps the most criticized Internet browser on the RuNet, who has earned the dislike of users due to the aggressive policy of the Mail.Ru Group company in the fight for a share in the browser market, which does not shy away from “dirty” ways of distributing its software through affiliate programs and other channels.

Amigo has only two versions - for Windows and Android operating systems. The browser itself is closely integrated with the online services of Mail.Ru Group and is the only web browser in our review that completely lacks the ability to select a default search - only Mail.ru, and no nails! This is the first interesting feature of the program. The second important point is that the Amigo installer, secretly from the user, registers its executable file amigo.exe in Windows startup. This behavior does not make the browser any better and makes you wary of Mail.Ru Group products.

In terms of functionality, Amigo is almost an exact copy of Chromium. Among the browser features, we note a customizable panel for quick access to social networks“VKontakte”, “Odnoklassniki”, “My World” and Twitter, built-in Unity player, night mode, start page with information widgets and a “smart” feed that shows news taking into account the user’s interests. The tab manager deserves good words, allowing you to view a list of open pages and instantly return to recently closed tabs. Otherwise, nothing remarkable.

A browser for the Windows platform, “developed” by the Rambler company since 2011 and whose maiden name is “Nichrome”. We put the word “under development” in quotes because over the 7 years of its existence this web browser has not changed at all and, judging by the copyrights, the current “Rambler/Browser” is a build of Chromium 30.0 from - attention! — June 27, 2013. Can you imagine how many “holes” and vulnerabilities there are in it? This is despite the fact that the Rambler company positions its product as “fast and safe.”

One can, of course, assume that Rambler/Browser implements some unique technologies and wonderful functions. But there is none of this: there is only a bookmarks bar stuffed with links to Rambler services and a pre-configured address bar that redirects the user’s search queries to the Rambler search engine supervised by the company. All this indicates that the browser was compiled from Chromium sources in a hurry solely for the sake of it. There is no way to develop software products with such a philosophy.

Comparative testing of browser performance and support for modern web standards

To test the speed characteristics of Internet browsers, we used a Windows To Go bootable flash drive with a 64-bit build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and assessed the performance of the latter at the time of writing the browser versions on two laptops - Lenovo IdeaPad G50-70 (Intel Core i7 processor clocked at up to 2.8 GHz, 8 GB RAM, HDD, AMD Radeon R5 M330 graphics card) and Sony VAIO VPC-Y11M1R/S (1.3 GHz Intel SU4100 processor, 8 GB RAM, SSD, integrated Intel GMA video X4500MHD). To evaluate performance, the benchmarks Futuremark Peacekeeper, Octane 2.0, MotionMark, JetStream, Basemark and Speedometer 2.0 were used, measuring the speed of the JavaScript interpreter, graphics processing speed and execution time of tasks typical for most Internet users. To conduct comparative tests, in addition to Sputnik, Yandex.Browser, Amigo and Rambler/Browser, the Chrome 64 browser built on Chromium was used. For the purity of the experiment, all browsers were tested separately, the rest of the applications running on the system When running benchmarks, they were unloaded from the computer's memory. The results of our testing can be judged from the graphs below.

As you can see, despite the single technological platform, in comparative tests browsers performed differently, and in terms of the totality of all measurements, the best were Google Chrome and Yandex.Browser, the speed of which, thanks to the optimized program code, is especially pronounced on older PCs. “Sputnik” and “Amigo” performed well in certain disciplines. As for Rambler/Browser, it managed to score only in the Futuremark Peacekeeper benchmark and failed miserably in all the others - the fault of the outdated web browser engine. Not everything is going smoothly with Rambler's development with full support for HTML5: in the HTML5test.com test, the browser scored only 394 points out of 555 possible (for comparison: Google Chrome and Yandex.Browser pass this test with a score of 520 points).

As a conclusion

You can argue for a long time and enthusiastically about the different approaches to creating software practiced by both Russian and foreign development companies. Some people write software products from scratch, others by modifying borrowed source codes, used as a “springboard” and allowing not to reinvent the wheel. Both approaches have a right to life, it’s only one thing to banally re-paste nameplates and pass off someone else’s product as your own (as in the case of Rambler/Browser), and quite another thing to technologically develop a ready-made solution and constantly introduce something into it. something new and original, which is what the Yandex.Browser team actually does. It is for this reason that we, like millions of other users, cast our vote in favor of this browser. “Sputnik” is more focused on government organizations and the corporate sector, “Amigo” may appeal only to ardent admirers of Mail.Ru Group online services who are ready to put up with mediocre web browser performance. But we advise you to bypass Rambler/Browser a mile away - this is not a product worth risking information security computer.

Each person has unique tastes, preferences, and requirements. If one thing gets tested by a hundred people, each will give a different result. Some opinions will be similar, others will differ and this is natural. In the software field everything is exactly the same. A browser is a program that a person uses to surf the Internet. We run it every day, so it’s important to choose a convenient browser that will meet all the requirements.
Using the browser, you can search for any information, listen to music, watch movies, and play your favorite games. Any rating will be controversial, but let's try to rank the best browsers. In this article you will look at the criteria for choosing a good browser for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. We will study in detail the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. Based on our rating, you will be able to choose a good browser for yourself.

Google Chrome 1st place

This is the most popular browser of all that exist today. The program can be called the best and fastest on the Windows operating system. Its opening took place in 2008. Chrome was based on the popular Safari browser at that time, made on the WebKit engine. Formally, it was crossed with the V8 javascript engine. Subsequently, this hybrid was renamed Chromium. Such famous companies as Google, Opera Software, as well as Yandex and several other large developers participated in further development. Google was the first to create its own version of the browser on Chromium. A year later, it was installed on 3.6% of computers worldwide. He began to quickly gain popularity, today he is the undisputed leader and occupies 42.21%. It is worth noting that the majority are smartphones that come with a pre-installed browser.

Advantages:

  1. High speed. Chrome is significantly superior to its competitors in terms of browser speed, as well as processing of displayed resources. In addition, there is a convenient function for preloading pages, this further increases the speed of work.
  2. Safety. The company has implemented reliable technologies that ensure the safety of using the browser. They continue to actively develop. The browser has a database of phishing and malicious resources, which is updated regularly. The browser works according to a unique scheme in such a way that not a single process is used, but several at once, but with lower privileges. Downloading files with .bat, .exe or .dll resolution requires additional confirmation, which reduces the chances of downloading a virus.
  3. There is an "Incognito" mode. This is a very convenient feature when you need to view a large number of sites, but not leave traces of their visit on your computer.
  4. Thoughtful interface. It is quite simple and contains everything you need, without unnecessary elements. Chrome is the first browser to offer quick access. On the panel you can see the most visited resources. Another feature is the joint use of the address bar and the search engine. Later this feature was implemented in other browsers.
  5. Stable work. Recently, there have been no such cases when Google Chrome experienced glitches or was very slow. This can only happen if there are viruses in the system. In many ways, security and stability are improved by using multiple processes that are separated from each other. If one of them stops working, the others continue to function.
  6. There is a task manager in the "Additional tools" menu. Almost no one knows about this feature. Thanks to this convenient tool, you can track how many resources an entire tab or a separate plugin takes up. You can find and fix the source of the problem if the application starts to slow down.
  7. Large selection of extensions, many of which can be downloaded for free. There are also many plugins and themes available. The browser can be customized depending on personal preferences, which is very convenient.
  8. It is possible to automatically translate pages. Google Translator is used for this.
  9. The program is updated automatically without disturbing the user.
  10. Search queries can be specified by voice, for this purpose the service “ OK Google».
Flaws:
  1. Starting with version 42.0, support for NPAPI plugins was stopped, including the fairly popular Flash Player.
  2. For the application to run smoothly, you need at least 2 GB of RAM.
  3. Most of the extensions and plugins are made in a foreign language.
  4. A significant load on the hardware contributes to the short battery life of laptops and smartphones.
I've been using Chrome for quite a long time, and as my main browser. During the entire period of work, he did not cause any serious complaints. Its integration into the system of other Google services is very convenient. One account can unite your computer and mobile device, and there is the possibility of continuous synchronization.
I don’t like the fact that all user data is stored on American servers (most likely now the data is stored on Russian servers). Mail, personal contacts and search information are stored there. True, we should not exclude the possibility that other browsers do the same. You need to take precautions whenever possible, then you will have nothing to fear. If you do not want to disclose your own data, but still continue to use Chrome, then use SlimJet or SRWare Iron, we will talk about them below.

Yandex.Browser 2nd place

The browser has the shortest history; it was opened in 2012. It is extremely popular in Russia. The browser supports integration with Yandex services, which are very convenient to use. The default search engine is Yandex. The interface turned out to be quite original, even though it was created on the Chromium engine. The panel immediately catches your eye quick launch. It is made in a tiled style.

The user can place up to 20 tiles. The browser uses a “Smart String”, which not only transmits the entered phrase to the search engine, but also automatically selects the required site if the name matches. Unfortunately, so far this function only works with large resources. Mouse manipulation is supported, with which you can control the viewing of web pages with simple movements.

Advantages:

Flaws:

  1. Not everyone will like the original interface.
  2. Linking to various Yandex services. Without them, the program is deprived of many features.
  3. Rarely, but still problems arise with transferring settings and history.
Not everyone will like the new interface, because it is radically different from its competitors. It will take some time to get used to such features.

Mozilla Firefox 3rd place

Now Mozila is the most popular foreign browser, and in Russia it ranks third. Over the past few years, it has begun to lose ground, but only slightly. The first version of the program appeared in 2004, since then there have been many changes. The application engine is Gecko - it is freely available and continues to be improved by developers. Formally, this is the first browser that had a huge base of extensions even before the advent of Chrome. He was among the first to implement the maximum confidentiality regime that Google invented.

Advantages:

  1. A simple and very convenient interface with no unnecessary details.
  2. A convenient settings system that allows you to radically change your browser, customizing it to your liking.
  3. A large number of various plugins. They can be selected to suit any taste, because at the moment there are more than 100,000 of them.
  4. Cross-platform. The browser can be downloaded for any operating system, which is used on modern technology.
  5. Reliability. I have found myself in situations where the user caught a banner that blocked all browsers, but Firefox continued to function.
  6. Maximum level of security and privacy of personal data.
  7. Convenient bookmarks bar.
  8. The program may refuse to allow various websites to track information about you. You can set up private browsing. In addition, there is a Master Passwords feature that further protects your entries on certain resources.
  9. Updates occur in the background without the need for user intervention.
Flaws:
  1. Compared to Chrome, the interface is a little slower and takes longer to respond to user manipulations.
  2. Performance is average;
  3. Lack of script support on some resources, as a result of which the content may not function properly.
  4. The application requires a large amount of RAM to run.

Opera 4th place

This is the oldest browser, which was opened back in 1994. I started using it about 15 years ago, and I still use it as needed. Until 2013, Opera had its own engine, but now Webkit+V8 is used. The exact same technology is used in Google Chrome. In 2010, the company opened a mobile version of the program. Now it is the fourth most popular browser in Russia, and in the world it ranks sixth.

Advantages:

  1. Excellent speed of operation and page display. Features of the browser include turbo mode, which significantly increases page loading speed through the use of cloud technologies. At the same time, traffic is saved significantly, which is very important when using the mobile version.
  2. There is a convenient express panel with saved bookmarks. This is a modified Speed Dial tool that we saw in previous versions of the browser.
  3. Opera Link technology, which is needed to synchronize different devices.
  4. Lots of hotkeys for easy control.
  5. Opera Unite Internet browser.
Flaws:
  1. To work effectively, you need a large amount of RAM. If you open several tabs at the same time, Opera will start to slow down. Even the reliable Chrome engine does not improve the situation.
  2. On many sites, scripts and various forms are observed to work incorrectly. There are a large number of complaints when working with WML.
  3. Stability cannot be called the browser's strong point. The company was never able to get rid of periodic crashes and freezes.
    4. Own bookmarking system, nicknamed “Piggy Bank”. This is quite an interesting solution, but it is poorly implemented.
I use Opera only as an additional browser. The "Turbo" function is useful when working with a modem, because in this case it combines high page display speed and savings in traffic consumption. Using Unite technology, you can turn your browser into a real server. On it you can provide access to a variety of files, exchange SMS notifications and photographs. The files are stored on the PC and become accessible only when the program is launched. This is an excellent replacement for Chrome if for some reason you do not want to use it.

K-Meleon 5th place

This application began to be developed back in 2000. In fact, it is a relative of Mozilla Firefox; they use the same engine. You may ask why he was included in the rating if they are practically the same? The fact is that they have strong differences. For example, today K-Meleon is the lightest browser for the Windows system. Such results were achieved thanks to the features of its development. Initially, the program was only supposed to demonstrate the capabilities of the new engine. As a result, the company was able to achieve economical consumption of PC resources.

Advantages:

  1. Small requirements for PC resources, including a low amount of RAM.
  2. Using the native Windows interface, which significantly saves time and resources spent on the interface.
  3. High speed.
  4. Good personalization options, and you don't need to use third-party extensions for this. Everything is arranged using macros. It will be difficult for a beginner to master, but you can figure it out in your free time.
  5. Eat big choice assemblies. You can choose an extension with the desired set of functions.
  6. You can create multiple profiles for different users.
Flaws:
  1. Quite a clumsy interface. If you compare it with the Top 5 leaders, then this browser has a too simple design.
  2. Rarely, there are problems with displaying the Cyrillic alphabet, but the situation has been corrected in recent updates.
This is the best option for weak PCs. The browser will function normally on an old laptop running the Windows XP operating system. You will be able to enjoy comfortable Internet surfing. And it will work even better on modern hardware. Many professionals use it, considering it the best browser. This should not be surprising, because in some respects K-Meleon is superior to its competitors.

Internet Explorer

This is a free browser that comes with integrated Windows software. The development was carried out by Microsoft from 1995 to the present day. Therefore, the browser was one of the most popular in Russia, but then Chrome appeared. Now he has lost a lot of his position and ranks 5th in popularity. The reason can be considered the completion of its development. Along with Windows 10, the company's development, Spartan, was released.
Throughout the history of the browser, it was never considered the best; everyone knew about a large number of vulnerabilities that were exploited by various viruses. For a very long time it was the weak point of every computer running the Windows operating system. The situation changed for the better with the release of Internet Explorer 10, which is included with Windows 8. All the holes in it were corrected and, subject to certain rules, the browser was considered safe.
Version 11 appeared along with the Windows 8.1 update, it is the latest in the line. In terms of speed, it can be compared with its competitors, but is still slightly inferior to them. Now there is a privacy mode, a preliminary rating, and caching is also supported, which allows you to increase the speed of the browser. Despite successful innovations, the browser is only losing its position. In my work, I use Internet Explorer only to log into the web interface home router and other network equipment. There is a simple explanation for this: this is the browser developers use, so the markup is designed for it. It is better to use another browser to view Internet resources.

Now there are many browsers that we did not mention in our review. We've presented our picks for the best browsers, but everyone may have a different opinion. The review represents only those reviewers that I have encountered. They are completely free to download and use without any restrictions. The current version can be found on the official website. If you can suggest decent browsers that should be in the Top 5, then indicate your options in the comments.
