The ideal crossover Volkswagen Tiguan of the second generation. Volkswagen Tiguan owner reviews: all the cons, disadvantages, pros Technical characteristics: gearbox, all-wheel drive system, engine range

The history of this compact German crossover from Volkswagen began at the end of 2006, when the Tiguan Concept concept car was presented at an exhibition in Los Angeles. The commercial vehicle was first revealed to the world in the fall of 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and a few months later it entered full production.

In 2011, at the Geneva Motor Show, the German company held the official premiere of the updated Tiguan. The SUV has noticeably “matured” in appearance, becoming very similar to the “older” Touareg, and has been transformed inside. New engines were placed in the engine compartment of the “German”, power was added to existing variants, and the range of transmissions was diluted with a 7-band “robot”.

Visually, the first generation Volkswagen Tiguan looks attractive and discreet, without any pretentious curves or lines. The front part of the crossover is very similar to that of the more “luxury” Touareg - an arrogant look, emphasized by LED daytime running light inserts, a signature radiator grille with chrome slats and a raised bumper (the latter, by the way, is available in three versions - “sporty”, “ urban" and "off-road" - which brings noticeable variety to its appearance).

The silhouette of the car is endowed with no less status than the “face” - correct proportions, “swollen” wheel arches of a rounded square shape and large rims with a diameter of 16-18 inches. The tail of the Volkswagen Tiguan is topped with a neat trunk lid, beautiful lights with an L-shaped “pattern” and dual exhaust pipes integrated into the bumper.

The total length of the “first Tiguan” is 4426 mm (versions with an “off-road” bumper are 7 mm longer), its height is 1703 mm, and its width reaches 1809 mm (including exterior mirrors - 2041 mm). A 200-mm clearance separates the bottom of the SUV from the road surface.

The corporate style of the German brand is visible in every detail of the Tiguan's interior - uncompromising classics, as well as rigor and clarity of lines, dominate inside. At the same time, the car’s decoration does not look boring at all - a laconic instrument panel with a multifunctional “window” for the on-board computer, a three-spoke steering wheel, supplemented in expensive versions with control elements, and a neat front panel. The center console is crowned with blocks of a factory audio system (in “top” versions it gives way to a color display of the multimedia system) and a dual-zone climate control system.

Inside the Volkswagen Tiguan, high-quality plastics with pleasant textures are used, diluted with silver metal decor. For SUV seats, “clothing” is available from high-quality fabrics, or a combination of fabric, leather and Alcantara trim.
The front seats of the Volkswagen Tiguan have a comfortable profile and a wide range of settings; they only lack more developed lateral support rollers. The rear sofa is spacious for three passengers, can move on a “sled” and has an adjustable backrest. In addition to this, “gallery” riders are offered the maximum range of amenities - folding tables, individual climate system deflectors, cup holders and a 12-volt outlet.

The rectangular cargo compartment of the compact crossover is spacious in volume (470 liters in standard condition) and trimmed with fleecy material. The back of the second row folds in unequal parts into a flat surface, as a result of which the useful volume increases to 1510 liters. There is an organizer for small items in the underground, but there wasn’t enough space for a full-size spare tire.

Specifications. Before the 2011 update, the 1st generation Volkswagen Tiguan for the Russian market was equipped with two gasoline engines of 1.4 and 2.0 liters, generating 150 and 170 horsepower (240 and 280 Nm of peak thrust), as well as a 2.0-liter diesel turbo-four with a return of 140 “horses” and 320 Nm.
They were combined with 6-speed gearboxes (“manual” or “automatic”) and an all-wheel drive system.

After restyling, the SUV not only retained the same engines, but also received three new options. The gasoline palette includes four types of power units:

  • The basic installation on the Tiguan is a 1.4-liter four with direct injection and turbocharging, developing 122 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1500-4000 rpm.
    In tandem with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, it accelerates the crossover to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, accelerates to a maximum of 185 km/h and consumes an average of 5.5 liters of fuel in mixed mode.
  • More productive cars are equipped with the same engine, but with two turbochargers, thanks to which its output is increased to 150 “mares” at 5800 rpm and 240 Nm of thrust, realized at 1750-4000 rpm.
    There are two gearboxes - a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed robotic DSG, and the same number of drive types - front-wheel drive or permanent all-wheel drive. The characteristics of this Volkswagen Tiguan are as follows: acceleration to the first “hundred” in 9.6 seconds, top speed of 192 km/h and fuel “appetite” from 7.1 to 8 liters.
  • Behind it in the hierarchy is a 2.0-liter turbo unit with direct injection, available in two boost levels - 170 “horses” at 4300-6000 rpm and 280 Nm at 1700-4200 rpm, or 200 forces at 5100-6000 rpm. minute and 280 Nm at 1700-5000 rpm.
    Their partner, in addition to all-wheel drive, is a 6-speed automatic transmission. Such “ligaments” allow the crossover to “shoot” from zero to 100 km/h in 8.5-9.9 seconds and peak at 197-207 km/h. The rated fuel consumption in combined mode is 9.9 liters.
  • The “top” installation is a “direct” engine with a pair of 2.0-liter turbochargers with a capacity of 210 horsepower (at 5100-6000 rpm), the output of which reaches 320 Nm at 1700-5000 rpm.
    It has an all-wheel drive transmission and a 7-speed robot, providing a maximum speed of 213 km/h and reaching the first three-digit figure on the speedometer in 7.3 seconds. For every “hundred” of travel in the combined cycle, the crossover consumes 8.6 liters of fuel.

  • The “first” Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with a 2.0-liter in-line diesel “turbo-four” generating 140 “horses” at 4200 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1750-2500 rpm. It is assisted by an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. After 10.7 seconds, the SUV leaves 100 km/h behind and reaches a maximum of 182 km/h, while “consuming” an average of 7 liters of diesel fuel.

The 4Motion all-wheel drive on the Volkswagen Tiguan is implemented using a Haldex multi-plate electro-hydraulic clutch that delivers torque to the rear axle. Under normal conditions, 90% of the traction goes to the front wheels, but if necessary, up to 100% can be transferred to the rear.

The 1st generation Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the front-wheel drive PQ35 platform. The car has an independent MacPherson-type suspension at the front and a multi-link architecture at the rear.
Optionally, the SUV is equipped with an adaptive DCC chassis with three operating modes.
The rack and pinion steering mechanism is equipped with an electromechanical power steering with variable characteristics, and disc brakes (ventilated on the front ones) and a whole set of safety systems (ABS, EDS, ESP and others) are mounted on all wheels.

Options and prices. On the Russian market in 2016, the first generation Tiguan is sold in the following versions - Trend&Fun, Club, Track&Field, Sport&Style and Track&Style.
The initial configuration of the crossover is priced at 1,119,000 rubles, and includes heated front seats, front and side airbags, a standard eight-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, ABS, EDS, ASR and ESP systems, electric windows on all doors. and other equipment.
The most expensive option costs from 1,750,000 rubles, and it “flaunts” (in addition to the above options) bi-xenon head optics, cruise, multimedia installation, navigator, keyless engine start system, rain and light sensors, combined interior trim and much more to others.

The 1st generation Volkswagen Tiguan crossover (restyling 2011) is based on the platform of the compact Golf Plus minivan. In Europe, the car is offered with seven power plants: four petrol and three diesel. There are fewer engines on the Russian market, and the cars themselves are assembled at a plant in Kaluga. The Tiguan engine line consists only of high-performance turbo units, which allows the model to demonstrate good dynamic characteristics, supported by excellent handling.

Domestic motorists are offered the following engines to choose from:

  • 1.4 TSI 122 hp, 200 Nm;
  • 1.4 TSI 150 hp, 240 Nm;
  • 2.0 TSI 180 hp, 280 Nm;
  • 2.0 TSI 210 hp, 280 Nm.

Crossovers equipped with 1.4-liter units are available in front-wheel drive. Initial engine 122 hp. It is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the 150-horsepower engine is paired with a 6-speed DSG robot. Volkswagen Tiguan modifications with 2.0-liter TSI have greater “off-road” potential, as they have a 4Motion all-wheel drive transmission. The gearboxes available for the 2.0 TSI are a 6-speed automatic from Aisin and a 7DSG robot with two clutches.

The ground clearance of the Tiguan SUV is 200 mm. For fans of off-road forays, a special version of Track&Field has been prepared, which, along with all-wheel drive, is equipped with a front bumper cut from the bottom, which significantly increases the approach angle (from 18 to 28 degrees). There is also a functional Off-Road mode, which adjusts the operation of the engine and gearbox for driving on very rugged terrain.

If we talk about fuel efficiency, then the Tiguan with the base 1.4 TSI 122 hp engine saves the best gasoline. and 6 manual transmission. This version consumes on average about 6.5 liters per 100 km. A slightly more voracious car with a 150-horsepower engine and DSG – 7.1 l./100 km. Fuel consumption of the Volkswagen Tiguan with the most powerful 2.0 TSI turbo-four is around 8.4-8.7 liters.

Volkswagen Tiguan is a German five-door, five-seat crossover of the Volkswagen SUV class. It first went on sale in 2007 and is still on sale today, now in its second generation. This car was based on the PQ35 platform from the VW Golf 5. There are versions with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The peculiarity of the Volkswagen Tiguan is that it is the world's first compact crossover, which is equipped only with supercharged engines. The name "Tiguan" was taken from the merger of two words "Tiger" and "Iguana", in the original "Tiger" and "Leguane".

Production history and features of Tiguan

The world first saw the Volkswagen Tiguan as a concept car back in 2006 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Based on the results of this car show, it received high rates of popularity and the Volkswagen company decided to put the car on the assembly line in a short time.

The production was launched already in 2007, in the winter. The first production Tiguan was presented in the same year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Back in 2007, a hybrid version of the Volkswagen Tiguan HY Motion, powered by hydrogen fuel, was presented in Shanghai. The technical characteristics of the hybrid version were impressive, with a power of about 240 hp. With. (hybrid motor in tandem with an electric motor) and a maximum speed of 150 km/h.

Initially, Tiguan was produced in Wolfsburg, Germany, then production was established in Russia, in the city of Kaluga. Today, the car is most popular in Western Europe, the USA, China and Russia, because these countries account for the largest share of exports.

Interesting fact: in the Volkswagen Tiguan and several other models of the company, studies found that cars emit tens of times more harmful substances than indicated by the manufacturer and in laboratory test results. Due to this fact, Volkswagen may suffer huge losses.

First generation Volkswagen Tiguan

Tiguan is the debut of the Volkswagen automaker in the compact crossover class. This car was equipped with both gasoline and diesel engines, all options with a mechanical or gas turbine supercharger, or with both, which gave high power characteristics.

Gasoline engines were 1.4 and 2 liters. The 1.4 engine with a TSI system, mechanical and turbo compressors showed a power of 150 hp. With.). There was a 1.4-liter version with turbocharging only, producing 122 hp. With. The two-liter versions also had a TSI system and gas turbine supercharging, their power was 170 and 200 hp. With. (depending on the configuration). There was only one diesel option, it had a volume of 2 liters with a turbine and a power of 140 hp. With.

Three transmission options were offered for the engines described above. Mechanical, automatic with torque converter and DSG. The DSG gearbox had a double clutch. The all-wheel drive mechanism is implemented in the form of connecting the rear wheels using a Haldex coupling.

Like all modern Volkswagen cars, the Tiguan has excellent safety. According to the results of the EuroNCAP crash test, it received a maximum of five stars.

Facelift of the first generation Volkswagen Tiguan

The appearance was changed in 2011. In the updated form of the Tiguan, the similarity with the Tuareg is easily read, against the background of which the Tiguan informally looks like a younger brother.

In particular, the main changes consist of installing new wheels with an original design, new LED optics and a large chrome front grille.

The technical specifications have also been slightly improved. The TSI 1.4 engine, which previously produced 150 hp. With. now produces 160 hp. With. And the power of two-liter TSI variants was increased from 170 to 180 hp. With. and from 200 to 210 l. With.

Volkswagen Tiguan I was produced until 2015, after which it was replaced by the second generation. A total of 2 million and 640 thousand cars were produced.

Second generation Volkswagen Tiguan

The new Volkswagen Tiguan was first introduced in 2015. Built on the MQB platform. The updated model has become somewhat lighter, wider, longer and lower than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also increased. Thanks to all the changes, the space in the cabin and luggage volume have significantly increased, which now reaches almost 1,700 liters. The appearance has changed, it has become noticeably stricter, but in which the signature Volkswagen design is still readable.

There are already eight engines available in the second Tiguan, all equipped with the TSI system, four petrol and four diesel. Gasoline engines also have a volume of 1.4 to two liters and a power of 125 to 220 hp. With. Diesel units are available in volumes from 1.6 to two liters, which produce from 115 to 240 hp. With. All engines comply with Euro 6 environmental standards. Both mechanical and robotic gearboxes are available for these engines.

Sales of the Volkswagen Tiguan coupe are expected in 2016.

In 2017, the new second-generation German Volkswagen Tiguan crossover will go on sale on the Russian market, which has significantly increased in size compared to its predecessor. Note that the first generation of Tiguan was in great demand in Russia due to its excellent handling, attractive design, good ability on light off-road conditions due to the all-wheel drive system based on the Haldex clutch, as well as best-in-class interior ergonomics. But the crossover also had its drawbacks, which included modest dimensions, a cramped interior, a small trunk and modest ground clearance.

Differences between the new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan and the old one

Like any new car, the Tiguan has significantly increased in size compared to the previous version. Thanks to the modular transverse platform MQB, engineers were able to increase the wheelbase, free space in the cabin and luggage compartment volume.

Dimensions of the new product (dimensions of its predecessor):

  • Length – 4,486 mm (4,426 mm);
  • Width – 1,839 mm (1,809 mm);
  • Height – 1,673 mm (1,703 mm);
  • Wheelbase - 2,677 mm (2,604 mm).

The 2017 model year Tiguan exceeds the old version by 73 mm in wheelbase length, 30 mm in width, 60 mm in length, and the luggage compartment volume has increased by 145 liters (from 470 to 615 liters). It is also worth noting that the crossover will be available in a seven-seater version; however, it is not yet known whether the seven-seat Tiguan will be sold in Russia. But the height of the predecessor exceeds the new product by 30 mm, but despite this, the interior of the second generation is noticeably more spacious. As for the ground clearance, it increased from 189 mm to 200 mm.

In terms of interior and exterior design, as can be seen from the photographs, the car received:

  • a different radiator grille;
  • new modern front and rear optics;
  • new front and rear bumpers;
  • new alloy wheel design (215/65/R17, 235/55/R18, 235/50/R19, 235/45/R20);
  • more interesting body design with all kinds of stampings;
  • design of air duct deflectors;
  • different climate control;
  • new instrument panel;
  • new finishing materials and colors.

All these improvements have affected the price; unfortunately, all new Volkswagen models can hardly be called a “people's car,” and the manufacturers themselves say that they are striving to get closer to premium brands. Now the title of “people's car” has migrated to Skoda cars.

Specifications

Engine

The second generation of the German crossover is presented on the Russian market with two gasoline and one diesel power units of different power (you can read more about the available engines and transmissions by going to). For the review, we decided to take, in our opinion, the most optimal version with a 2.0 TSI with a power of 180 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.

Transmission

With a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine, a DSG-7 with a wet clutch is offered as a transmission. Let us immediately note that this gearbox is also installed on Audi sports models, such as RS 3 and RS Q3 and TT RS. The stock DQ500 is capable of withstanding 600 Nm of torque.

The most unreliable robot is considered to be the seven-speed DSG with dry clutch DQ200 manufactured by LuK. This robotic transmission is capable of withstanding up to 250 Nm of torque and is installed on front-wheel drive VAG cars. The first generation of transmissions installed on the Volkswagen Passat caused the most criticism. One of the main problems was the failure of mechatronics.

All-wheel drive system

All-wheel drive is provided by a fifth-generation Haldex clutch, which, in the event of wheel slipping, redistributes torque almost instantly. Let us remind you that the Tiguan has front-wheel drive, which allows you to significantly save fuel consumption, and all-wheel drive is activated only forcibly, or automatically if necessary. Moreover, the crossover perfectly demonstrates its 4MOTION capabilities in light off-road conditions, thanks to the Electronic Differential Lock (EDS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which act as lateral wheel lockers.

All this allows you to accelerate a car weighing 1,653 kg from 0 to 100 km/h. in 7.7 seconds, you will agree that these are not bad figures; not every sedan or hatchback can demonstrate such impressive acceleration from a standstill. The maximum speed of the Tiguan in this configuration is 210 km/h. Another impressive indicator is fuel consumption (AI-95);

  • urban cycle - 10.8 liters;
  • highway – 6.4 liters;
  • mixed - 8 liters.

These figures are stated by the manufacturer; for the most part, fuel consumption depends on your driving style and traffic load.

Price in Russia

Potential owners will be offered two configurations to choose from:

Comfortline

  • 2.0 180 hp 4motion - 1,909,000 rubles;

Highline

  • 2.0 180 hp 4motion – 2,069,000 rubles;

The difference between these two trim levels is that the richer one will include a tire pressure sensor, an electric trunk lid, an electrically heated windshield, a combined interior, door sills and R18 alloy wheels.

The main competitors of the second generation Tiguan on the Russian market can be considered the following cars:

  • KIA Sportage with a gasoline 1.6 liter turbo engine, all-wheel drive and DCT robotic transmission, costing 2,084,900 rubles;
  • new Ford Kuga with a 1.5 liter petrol turbo engine, all-wheel drive and automatic 6-speed transmission, costing from 1,769,000 rubles;
  • Honda CR-V with 2.0 liter engine, 5-speed automatic, all-wheel drive. Car price from 1,769,900 rubles.
  • Mazda CX-5 with a 2.5 liter engine, all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. Price from 1,750,000 rubles;
  • Toyota RAV4 with a 2.5 petrol engine, six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Price from 1,850,000 rubles;

Unlike all of the above competitors, with the exception of the crossover, the representative of the German school gives better handling, better dynamic performance and, most importantly, significantly lower fuel consumption.

To summarize, the second generation got rid of all the shortcomings of the first generation, became much more technologically advanced and came as close as possible to the premium segment. Unfortunately, all these improvements have significantly increased the cost of the car; let's see if the 2017 Tiguan can become a leader in the mid-size crossover segment and show the same high sales as the previous generation.
