INSTALLING A MOTOR WHEEL ON A BIKE: STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Unlike gasoline engine, there are options when installing a motor-wheel. The motor wheel can be installed either front or rear. Since the second option is still the most common, this article will consider installing a wheel motor on a bicycle at the rear.

The first difficulty that may arise during the installation process is that the wheel motor does not fit into the fork. To solve the problem, you can use a cassette with fewer sprockets. You can also try widening the rear fork a little. But not every fork is flexible.

The most problematic in this regard are cheap steel forks. Aluminum forks can be bent about a centimeter or two. However, the most the best option– this means not touching the fork, but purchasing a wheel motor of a suitable size, especially since, given the wide range of models on the market, this will not be difficult. This is done by lubricating the motor wheel with a waterproof and heat-resistant sealant, because the parts in the motor wheel also heat up from friction. However, complete sealing is impossible, therefore, you should not immerse the structure in water.

  • The wiring must be connected strictly according to the diagram that comes with the motor wheel. If any points are not clear, call technical support, this will help you avoid burning controller elements or charger batteries.
  • After completing the wiring, you can begin installing the chain and centering the wheel motor. If the rim has a strong runout (more than 1.5 mm), first adjust it by tensioning the spokes.
  • If there are no noticeable beats in the motor wheel, you can fix it. This is done with shaped washers, which must be clearly attached to the frame. The washers will not allow the wheel motor to rotate in the fork. Then, you should again check the correct operation of the device.
