Mathematics and computer science:
We invite preschool and school age To participate in competition for children's research projects "First Steps into Science" . What is it project and how not to confuse it with other types of work? Let's figure it out.

Project, report or research paper?

Very often a project is called any independent work student, for example, an essay or report. They are often confused by both children and adults, so it is very important to distinguish one from the other, and decide on the type of work you are going to do:

Report- a public, detailed, official message on a specific issue, based on the use of documentary data. The purpose of a report is to inform someone about something.

Essay- a written report or speech on a specific topic that collects information from one or more sources. This includes presenting different points of view on the same issue.

Research work- work of a scientific nature related to scientific research, conducting research, experiments in order to expand existing and obtain new knowledge, test scientific hypotheses, establish patterns manifested in nature and society, scientific generalizations, scientific substantiation of projects.

Project- work aimed at solving a specific problem, achieving in an optimal way a pre-planned result in the form of a real object or intellectual product. Project work may include elements of all of the above types of work, but only as ways to achieve project results.

So, the main distinguishing feature project is the presence of a previously known result. The project work must describe specific plans for the goal and actions to achieve it, i.e. the project product must be an embodiment of the method found by the author to solve the project problem.

Tips for choosing a research project topic:
- The topic should be interesting to the child and should captivate him.
- The topic must be feasible, its solution must bring real benefits to the research participants.
- The topic should be original, it needs an element of unusualness and surprise.
- The topic should be such that the work can be completed relatively quickly.
When choosing a topic, you need to take into account: the possible level of solution, desires and possibilities.

First steps into science

Project topic:

Innovation and information technologies

Subject:

The science

Municipality:

Naro-Fominsk city

Brief description of the project:

One of the main directions of development modern education, according to the National General Education Initiative “Our New School” is working with gifted children. The task of the school is to identify and develop students with a high level of creative activity and a high motivational sphere aimed at educational and cognitive activity.
Since joining the position of a fine arts teacher at Selyatinskaya Secondary School No. 1 in 2007 (while studying in graduate school and doing pedagogical science at the same time), I had a desire to instill an interest in scientific research in students. In 2008, under my leadership, a scientific society of students “Creativity and Search” was organized at the school. This is how a circle of like-minded people was created: teachers and students who feed each other with their enthusiasm and creative energy. Teachers provide scientific supervision of the work of gifted students.
Under my leadership, young researchers carry out projects on topics that interest them. The work is planned for a year. At the beginning of the school year, the stages and structure of the project are determined. In the first half of the year we work on the theoretical part of the projects, in the second - the practical part. As a result, projects written during the year take part in conferences and intellectual competitions at various levels. We also present the results at the school’s annual Science Ball. It is prepared by the class in which I am the class teacher.
The first research works of my students were limited to knowledge in the subject area “Art” (I headed the artistic and aesthetic section). But practice has shown that in children’s scientific knowledge it is necessary to move not from the teacher’s specialization, but from the interests of young researchers. This increases motivation while doing work, which certainly affects the final result. In addition, school research projects often go beyond educational program, which contributes to the development of both the student and his supervisor.
At first, the guys and I presented our projects only at the district level: at the regional primary school conference “The World through the Eyes of Children” and the regional scientific and practical conference “Step into the Future”. Later, feeling confident in their abilities, they decided to reach more high level. Now we are introducing the results of our work to the participants and jury members of the regional conference “Young Researcher”, the regional competition of youth educational and research works “Young Archivist”, the All-Russian festival of children's discoveries and initiatives “Leonardo”, the regional competition of projects and research works of educational organizations, dedicated memorable dates military history and etc.
Among the achievements in the research activities of my students can be noted: diplomas of the winner, prize-winner, participant of the Regional Conference “The World through the Eyes of Children” (2011, 2012, 2013); three winner diplomas, three winner diplomas of the regional scientific and practical conference “Step into the Future” (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014); two winner’s diplomas and a prize-winner’s diploma at the regional stage of the All-Russian Festival of Creative Discoveries and Initiatives “Leonardo”; a diploma of the first degree and a gold medal of the winner (2012), two diplomas of the second degree and silver medals (2015, 2017), diplomas of winners in the nominations “Young Researcher” (2013) and “For Fidelity to Creative Search” (2016), eight diplomas from finalists of the All-Russian Festival of Children's Discoveries and Initiatives "Leonardo" (2012, 2013, 2014); two diplomas from finalists of the International Festival of Children's Discoveries and Initiatives "Leonardo" (2011). Young researchers won victories at the municipal (2016, 2017) and regional (2016) levels of the Moscow regional competition of educational and research works “Young Archivist”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the start of the war and the Moscow Battle of 1941-1942, as well as one high school student became the winner at the municipal and regional levels of the Regional competition of projects and research works of students of educational organizations, dedicated to memorable dates in military history.
The All-Russian Festival of Children's Discoveries and Initiatives "Leonardo" aroused particular interest among children, parents and teachers. It is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the country's leading universities. The winners receive the right to enter universities on a preferential basis, and the teachers who trained the students are awarded federal awards. The most active and productive schools are awarded the highest award - the Leonardo star. The results of the festival are published in the federal journal “Bulletin of Education”.
Having experience participating with my students in the Leonardo festival (since 2010), in 2014 I came up with a proposal to open a representative office in our area. The Methodological Center and the Educational Institution of the Naro-Fominsk region supported this idea. Having issued required package documents, I became the official regional representative of the All-Russian Organizing Committee for holding events of the Mendeleev Heritage Charitable Foundation in the Naro-Fominsk region. Thus, the regional stage of “Leonardo” has already been held three times in the region. I conduct preliminary screening and selection of works. The management of the methodological center determines the composition of the jury members and organizes a regional festival on the basis of one of the Naro-Fominsk schools. We identify the best works and recommend them for participation in the festival finals.
The opening of a representative office of the Leonardo festival makes it possible to select research works locally, which gives us certain advantages. Holding the Festival in the region not only ensures the selection of the best projects (and thus improves the quality of work at the All-Russian stage), but also helps schoolchildren gain experience in public speaking and answer questions from jury members. Young researchers and their supervisors get the opportunity to see their mistakes before the final, consult with other participants, listen to constructive comments, correct and finalize the project. After the results of the regional stage are announced, I conduct a consultation for the members of the delegation at the UMC: we finalize the projects, correct inaccuracies, remove all the “roughness” in the scientific apparatus - prepare for the final. In our opinion, this explains the successful performance of the members of our district’s delegation in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Our achievements: 3 gold medals, 5 silver, 1 bronze, as well as 6 laureate diplomas. Medalists senior and middle group 2016 and 2017 were awarded vouchers to the International Children's Center "Artek" for the "Path to Olympus" session. Young researchers gather there, who study and develop under the guidance of the country's leading scientists. Among these achievements of the district, 3 silver medals and two vouchers were received by children who worked under my direct scientific supervision. In 2016, one student became a participant in the Presidential Forum “Future Intellectual Leaders of Russia” (Yaroslavl) for high achievements in research work.
Festival participants are given a unique opportunity to communicate with leading scientists of the country. To receive attention, praise and comments from specialists of this level at school age is a great success.
In addition to increasing the level of knowledge, the Festival provides participants with opportunities for aesthetic and cultural development. Knowledge about the capital of the great Motherland, gained in lessons and classroom hours within the walls of their native educational institutions, are multiplied during a tour of the city. During three days the mental activity of the finalists is replaced by the perception of art in museums and theaters in Moscow.
Additional motivation for participation in the Festival was taken into account by the organizers in relation to teachers and educational institutions. The most active teachers receive commendations and badges at the All-Russian level. The most active schools are the Leonardo Star. We happily brought this honorary symbol of the Festival to our school twice already (2012 and 2015). For active work with gifted children, I was awarded diplomas from the MAU DPO “Educational and Methodological Center” (2008-2011, 2013), three regional (2015, 2016, 2017) and eight federal diplomas (2010-2017), as well as two badges of the Mendeleev Heritage Charitable Foundation (2016, 2017).
It is important to note that in most cases, children who have tried their hand at small science once, experienced the pain and joy of creativity, and felt the taste of victory, remain in the scientific community until they graduate from school. Each subsequent topic student project is a consequence of previous work. Each subsequent project requires an even more serious attitude from the researcher, spends more time and evokes more and more emotions, which in turn generate even greater interest. Work on each new project is a logical consequence of previous research work and the reason for future scientific interests. Subsequently, they are often decisive in choosing a profession. Graduates, members of the school scientific society, remember their experiences with gratitude and now, as students, sincerely thank them for the experience gained.
Family research projects are of particular interest for the development of a child’s personality. Cooperation on the principle of teacher - student - parent in design and research work is implemented in the best possible way. Here, not only does the child develop, the teacher has the opportunity to develop and realize his scientific and organizational abilities, but also family ties are strengthened, family traditions and values are formed. How important it is when parents actively promote the development of a child, help him in his creative endeavors, support his interests and create conditions for the emergence of new knowledge.
Working with gifted children satisfies the requirements of continuity and integrity of modern education, as well as the interconnection of social institutions (family, secondary and higher schools), the unity of education and science. Self-determination in the early stages of education, choice of professional trajectory, justification of the chosen life goal, awareness of the significance of future work activity for personal self-development and the development of society are key tasks that are solved in the course of working with gifted children.
Thus, the organization of project and research work of schoolchildren has a huge impact on the multifaceted development of the younger generation. Of course, the desire for creativity and the desire to engage in research work does not appear on its own. This can be facilitated by the desire to learn a lot, the teacher and the family. Our school is a school where children study and do creative work, something that they like. Supporting teachers in their work with gifted children contributes to the active development of the younger generation, increasing interest in domestic science, and the formation of “intellectual capital” of the Moscow region and our country.
