Technical characteristics of Renault Duster. Weak engine What engine is on Duster 2.0

Electric cars are more popular today than ever. At least in Europe. Why not?

Quiet driving, no emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and exemption from transport taxes in many countries, preferences when purchasing and other advantages are encouraging more and more residents of the continent to choose electric cars.

And as battery life between charges increases and infrastructure improves, electric vehicles are increasingly becoming a full-fledged alternative to traditional gasoline and diesel models for a significant portion of European motorists. It is still difficult to say the same about the residents of Russia. But here, too, more and more enthusiasts are choosing this type of transport. Both officials and deputies of various levels are campaigning for their acquisition.

Yet the EV market is still in its infancy, and choice is growing more slowly than progressives would like. The first electric cars, which appeared on the market more than 10 years ago, could travel no more than 130 kilometers without recharging and cost one and a half times more than their gasoline counterparts. Today the situation is changing both in terms of battery power and pricing policy. Therefore, let's pay attention to what interesting offers there are today on the international electric car market, taking into account the price-quality ratio, minimum battery mileage and ease of use.

Kia e-Niro. The Kia e-Niro shows what a realistic price range you can expect from an electric car. For less than 3 million rubles, a car with a 64 kW/h battery allows you to comfortably drive more than 380 kilometers without recharging. A few years ago, only a much more expensive car would have provided this opportunity. For example, Tesla.

That's not the only reason why the e-Niro is among the most attractive options on the market. This model has other nice bonuses, such as convenient controls and a spacious interior.

Volkswagen ID 3. As Volkswagen looks to overcome the effects of Dieselgate, the ID 3 should take center stage in this project. This Golf-sized hatchback aims to be the best in its class, in which Volkswagen has rightfully become one of the leaders in the classic market. Built on a new platform, the ID 3 benefits from a long wheelbase and plenty of interior space. Experts note excellent maneuverability and controllability. Prices have not yet been confirmed, but most likely, ID 3, depending on the battery capacity, will cost in the range from 2.5 to 3 million rubles.

Hyundai Kona Electric. A tempting offer from Hyundai, which has made an electric car a reality, capable of covering 480 kilometers without recharging and at the same time costing around 3 million rubles. This gives the model a significant competitive advantage, since it has approximately 60 percent more energy reserves than most other cars on the list. In addition, the Kona Electric has excellent dynamics. Although in terms of handling characteristics, judging by expert reviews, it is not as good as some competitors.

KIA Soel E.B. Kia's third-generation small compact crossover will be offered as an electric vehicle in European markets. The first impressions of experts sound very encouraging for future owners. Despite the fact that the model is not very sporty, the car has good dynamics and weighs 1682 kg. And because it uses the same powertrain as the larger e-Niro, the 64 kWh battery has a range of 450 kilometers without charging. The price of the model, like other representatives of the list, will be within 3 million rubles.

Nissan Leaf. By increasing battery capacity by 25 percent, Nissan's electric model has significantly more power and torque than its direct predecessor. This car positions itself as a good choice for a small family. And to stimulate its sales, some European countries offer special grants for the purchase of this electric car, the amount of which reaches 300 thousand rubles in terms of our money. It would be nice if similar programs were actively implemented by the Russian authorities.

Result: This rating does not at all represent the ultimate truth, but is only one of the versions reflecting the opinion of experts in a particular market. Battery range and price are far from the only criteria by which the attractiveness of electric cars can be determined. But this market is just beginning to develop. In the coming years, new models will likely appear from major brands that have already outlined ambitious plans to conquer this segment. So, in the coming years, such ratings will probably be actively updated.

It can already be seen in many publications, but few people know what technical characteristics it is endowed with. Therefore, we decided to present to your attention the technical characteristics of the new Duster Dacia, which has already gone on sale in European countries.

F4R engine malfunctions and repairs

Engine Renault F4R 2.0 l. 135-138 hp (depending on the index), the latter became especially popular thanks to the popular Renault Duster SUV and the Megan family. There are a number of different modifications of the F4R, with various indices, their power varies within narrow limits, from 135 to 138 hp. The index shows the car for which this engine was intended (mounts) and the engine settings. Almost all parts of the F4R are interchangeable and the differences are mainly in the attachments. In addition to the usual variations, there are also sports ones - used on the Clio Sport with power from 169 hp. up to 200 hp Their differences: electronic throttle valve, different air filter, steel crankshaft (instead of cast iron), modified cylinder head, exhaust.
I would like to immediately put an end to the issue of a belt or chain on the Duster engine; the engine has a timing belt drive. F4R itself is not new enough, all its disadvantages are known and the causes of malfunctions are known. Let's look at the most popular faults of the F4R 2.0: the phase regulator, it fails once every 60-70 thousand km, this will be indicated by the sound of the engine reminiscent of a diesel engine, in addition, such a sound may indicate more serious problems (cracked cylinder head, burnt out piston, valve) , one way or another you need to measure the compression and proceed from that.
Ignition coils do not last long; when the F4R Duster engine fails, it begins to twitch, this is the main reason, besides it, the issue may be in the crankshaft position sensor (crankshaft position sensor) or in the spark plugs.
The throttle valve likes to get clogged and your Renault F4R does not start in the best way; after cleaning, the problem disappears as if by hand.
The rear crankshaft oil seal, likes to leak on engines with mileage over 100 thousand km, can be changed without problems.
The Duster engine speed fluctuates, this is a feature of the engine, it’s not scary. Speaking about the features, you need to note one more thing, the noise of the Renault Duster engine in the timing belt area, this is also not scary.

In addition to everything written above, the Duster F4R engine is characterized by increased oil consumption.
Despite everything, the motor is quite decent and will not cause any special problems during normal operation; the service life of the Duster engine is 250-300 thousand km before major repairs.

Choosing a car Duster/Megan, etc. look at the 2 liter engine, 1.6 K4M will not be enough.

Engine tuning Renault F4R 2.0 16V Duster\Megan

Chip tuning, firmware for Renault Duster F4R engine. Finalization

Exactly like 95% of other naturally aspirated engines, the firmware won’t do anything here, feel free to throw this idea out of your head. It will be much more effective to convert your 2 liter Renault Duster engine into a Clio RS engine, install camshafts from RS or tuning ones with a phase of about 280 + intake + direct-flow exhaust + flash and it will run at the level of 170 horsepower engine. For further modifications, you need to change the piston to forging, modify the cylinder head... cut the channels (yes, yes, like a real pelvis :)), modify the valve seats, remove sharp edges, grind the channels, install a lightweight flywheel, receiver... maybe you can get up to 200 hp. With. If you really want, you can install a 4th throttle intake on evil shafts, somehow configure it, but the cost of construction will be hellish, the ratio is $/hp. beyond comprehension.

Compressor and turbine for Renault F4R Duster/Fluence/Megan 2.0 liter

There are no ready-made compressor kits for F4R; you will have to buy a separate compressor with low pressure... 0.5 bar for a standard motor is the limit. We are looking for such a compressor, 360cc injectors, direct-flow exhaust, set it up online and about 200+ hp. can be inflated. Install a more efficient turbine on the F4R and inflate 300 hp without any problems. as on the Megane RS, it won’t work, the F4RT turbo engine from the F4R, in addition to the turbine, has a different reinforced block, pistons for a lower compression ratio, so you need to build a fast turbo engine initially on the F4RT.

The popular crossover today is available in various variations, but the most popular are 2-liter engines with a power of 135 horsepower. For lovers of diesel units, there is only 1.5 (90 hp) with a manual transmission and their line will not be expanded in the near future, i.e. will remain the same.

If you are planning to purchase a Renault Duster with a 2-liter engine, then almost all versions are relevant for you with the exception of Authentique, because it only uses 1.6. Overall this is an excellent solution because... it has a lot of advantages:

  • Fairly decent ground clearance
  • The spaciousness of the luggage compartment allows you to take a large number of things with you.
  • Low cost maintenance
  • All-wheel drive will provide good maneuverability on difficult road sections
  • Possible to purchase on credit on favorable terms

Below is the current cost of all trim levels of the 2-liter Duster. How to choose exactly what you need? If you have a similar problem, then you are probably not yet very familiar with this SUV, which means the fastest way to eliminate this misunderstanding is to visit the showroom of the nearest car dealership. Here you can not only examine the internal structure of the car and its design, but also receive competent advice. You will learn the differences between all versions, their advantages and capabilities. In addition, you can order a free test drive and evaluate all the capabilities of the car by driving along a fairly long route.

Fuel consumption

After running the car in, you should reach approximately the following indicators, which of course may vary slightly, but in general everything will look like this:

Mode Liters / 100 km
City 11
Route 7
Mixed 9

At the initial stage, of course, gasoline consumption will be much higher than stated, but over time it will gradually decrease. The owner's experience and driving habits should also be taken into account. The indicators are focused on a Renault Duster with an automatic transmission, while for a manual transmission they are slightly less. Which transmission is best to choose is up to you, but if more than 75% of all trips take place in urban areas, then automatic transmission is more preferable.

Renault Duster 2.0 fuel consumption, dynamics and characteristics today we’ll talk about all the features of the engine. The 2-liter Renault Duster has an F4R unit under the hood. It is an inline 4 cylinder with 16 valves DOHC with a cast iron block and timing belt. The motor has quite a few modifications and can easily be found on other models of the French manufacturer.

Before restyling, the Duster was equipped with the F4R modification without a variable valve timing system with a power of 135 hp. But after the update, Renault Duster 2.0 received a more advanced engine model with a phase change system on one shaft, the power increased to 143 hp. And fuel consumption has improved slightly, because now the engine has become more efficient in different operating modes. After restyling, the engine began to be installed only with 4x4 all-wheel drive.

To reduce fuel consumption for this engine, many drivers install gas equipment, which allows serious savings. Moreover, today buying any components for gas equipment in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine is not a problem. Just look at astar.ua online store of automobile spare parts and components for any foreign cars.

Perhaps the main problem for the Duster 2.0 F4R engine can be considered bent valves in the event of a belt break. Therefore, the timing belt should be changed on time; the manufacturer recommends doing this once every 60 thousand kilometers. With normal maintenance, this motor can easily travel more than 400 thousand kilometers.

  • Working volume – 1998 cm3
  • Number of cylinders/valves – 4/16
  • Cylinder diameter – 82.7 mm
  • Piston stroke – 93 mm
  • Power hp – 143 at 5750 rpm
  • Power kW – 105 at 5750 rpm
  • Torque – 195 Nm at 4000 rpm
  • Compression ratio – 11.1
  • Timing Drive - Belt
  • Maximum speed 6 manual transmission – 180 km/h (4 automatic transmission – 174 km/h)
  • Acceleration to the first hundred with a 6-speed manual transmission is 10.3 seconds. (4 automatic transmission – 11.5 s.)
  • Fuel consumption in the city with 6 manual transmission is 10.1 liters. (4 automatic transmission – 11.3 l.)
  • Fuel consumption in the combined cycle 6-speed manual transmission is 7.8 liters. (4 automatic transmission – 8.7 l.)
  • Fuel consumption on the 6-speed manual highway is 6.5 liters. (4 automatic transmission – 7.2 l.)

Fuel consumption Duster 2.0 in actual operation it is significantly higher. In the city 13 liters, this is normal. And if you also select the 4x4 all-wheel drive mode with the air conditioner on, then it’s better not to think about fuel consumption.

But the dynamic performance of the compact crossover is quite good and fully corresponds to the manufacturer’s stated data. Of course, the 4-band automatic is structurally a bit old for quick starts, but thanks to well-chosen gear ratios it behaves well.

Among the features of the power unit, one can note the increased oil consumption. Therefore, you need to regularly monitor the engine oil level. A 2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine for the Duster is assembled in Spain at the Renault Espana plant, where its production began back in 1993.
