The highway originates at the intersection of Leninsky Prospekt and the Moscow Ring Road, then in a southwestern direction through the territory of the Moscow region, passing south of the Solntsevo district of Moscow and Vnukovo Airport. In 2007, a major overhaul of the road section km 172+390-173+357 was carried out and transferred to category I.

A continuation of the development of the M-3 “Ukraine” highway is the projected section km 172+390 – km 194+000. The section is the most intense in terms of traffic volumes and traffic intensity. According to the “National Program for the Modernization of Highways of the Russian Federation until 2025,” it should be expanded to four lanes.
