How to make a New Year's letter box. Santa's mailbox made from a shoe box

Hello!
I hope that you and your children are planning to write letters to Santa Claus? Or maybe you already wrote it? Where do your kids put them then? In the freezer? Out the window? Under the pillow?)))
One children's development center now has a real Santa Claus mailbox! Kids can throw their letter in it! And I will share with you my method of making such a box.

For the base of our mailbox we use 1 or 1.5 mm thick binding cardboard.

Cutting out the blanks:
30x22 cm is the back part
25x22 cm is the front part
22x12 cm is the bottom
24x14 cm is a cover
And two sides with sides 30x12x25x13 (that is, they will be beveled forward)

We will also need loops, these are the smallest ones I found. And brads - 4 pieces.

To fasten our box, we cut out strips of thick paper (I use watercolor paper) along the length of our parts, that is:
30 cm - 4 pcs.
25 cm - 4 pcs.
22 cm - 4 pcs.
12 cm - 4 pcs.

We collect our parts into a single whole, you should get a box like this:

Here in the photo you can already see that I attached the lid to the back wall using hinges and brads. I painted all the edges, as well as the hinges, with acrylic paint:

I attached the hinges with only one brad on each side, otherwise it turned out too rough (((

We cover the insides of the box with watercolor paper. I also made a tag with a winking Santa Claus in the middle. There will be a surprise for the children - they open the lid to throw in their letter, and there Santa Claus smiles at them!

Further. We also cover the back wall and bottom with watercolor paper. The sides can be paper to match the one you chose for the facade of our mailbox.
Now let's decorate.
I chose WP paper, large pompoms, a snowflake from Christmas tree pendants, and a bow made from decorative ribbon with wire edges. Also used grosgrain and holly ribbon from May Arts, "candied" berries.

I decorated the front of the drawer very simply. I cut out a flag from binding cardboard, painted it with acrylic paint, the same flag, but smaller, from the back of the same WP paper, and an even smaller one from red designer cardboard, painted the letters from chipboard, and made the volume using foam tape. This is how it turned out for me:

The finishing touches are snowflakes using Flower Soft and “snowy” frosted patterns along all edges with white acrylic:

It seems like nothing complicated, but the children have a lot of delight))) We already have the first letters in our mailbox!
I hope that this master class will inspire someone to create their own mailbox for Santa Claus, or at least to write a letter to Grandfather together with their child! Soon our blog will publish an article about the meaning of letters to Santa Claus for a child, about magic and faith in miracles! Do not miss! And share your ideas and results in the comments!

Approaching New Year, children and adults are looking forward to holiday festivities, ice skating and sledding, bright lights on the Christmas trees and long-awaited gifts from Santa Claus. However, the New Year holidays are approaching both in kindergarten and at school, for which parents and children are asked to do any interesting things.

We suggest creating with your children a necessary and useful craft with your own hands - Santa Claus's mailbox.
For this master class we will need materials:

  • - a shoe box (its size depends only on your desire).
  • - decorative film (can be replaced with colored paper).
  • - black and gold cardboard.
  • - scissors.
  • - stationery knife.
  • - glue.
  • - pencil and ruler.

Step-by-step master class.

First of all, let’s clear the table of unnecessary items and get started.
1. On the lid of the shoe box, draw a slot for letters. Let me remind you that the smallest envelope is 11 cm by 22 cm. If you intend to use Santa Claus's box for its intended purpose, you need to take this into account. If the slot has a purely decorative function, its size does not matter.
2. Using a stationery knife, make a cut along the drawn lines.

3. Mark out the required area of decorative film for the bottom of the box. Remove the paper from the film and carefully glue the box. The advantage of the film is that if something doesn’t work out, it can be removed and re-glued. Be sure to squeeze out all the bubbles with your hand, otherwise it will be ugly.

4. We perform the same actions with the top cover. Carefully covering it with red film. It should be noted that instead of decorative film, of course, you can use red paper. We'll cover the whole box with it.
5. Make a slit with a stationery knife and bend the edges.

6. We make a belt for Santa Claus or Santa Claus - whatever you like. Take black cardboard and cut out a strip. We calculate the length of the strip so that it bends inside the top cover. The width of the strip is at your discretion. In this case we used velvet paper. It has its pros and cons. It always looks great, but the edges and corners tend to fray over time. Only your preferences matter here.

7. Make a plaque. On the back of the cardboard, use a ruler and pencil to mark how the plaque will look. See photo.

8. Cut out the plaque from gold cardboard using scissors or a stationery knife, whichever is more convenient for you.

9. We thread a black cardboard belt through the gold plaque and secure it with glue, as shown in the photo. We glue only with inside top cover of the box.

10. Putting it all together. Decorate with a cap.

Now our craft is ready. The holiday mailbox for Santa Claus, created by yourself, is ready. This New Year's craft can be attributed to kindergarten or to school. She will definitely delight both children and adults, because she resembles Father Frost himself in a red fur coat with a black belt.
