Dear friends, Android users!

Today I will introduce you to an application that will relieve you of the uncertainty of waiting for city public transport at a stop. You've probably often had to stand at a bus stop, waiting for the right transport and cursing the discrepancy between the posted schedule and reality. In the now common traffic jams in big cities, it is difficult to count on the accuracy of arrival on schedule.

There is an exit. If you are the owner of a smartphone with Internet access, then with the help of a good free In the Yandex.Transport program, you can at any time see on the map at your current location (however, if necessary, also in any other location) the real traffic situation on the approaches to your stop.

Application when opened determines your location and when you click on the arrow in the lower left corner, it centers the map on it.

On the map in real time appear moving marks buses, trolleybuses, trams indicating the route number and direction of travel. Using these marks, you can roughly determine whether the required transport is on the way, how long you still have to wait for it, and decide whether it is worth finding alternative options. There is a filter with which you can leave only the route you need on the map.

At pressing the stop icon you get a list of all the routes that stop on it. When you press to the transport label you get to its final stops.

In my experience, the accuracy of displaying the actual position is not perfect, but still very decent. The time error is no more than 1-2 minutes. You just need to take into account that, naturally, only vehicles equipped with a navigation system are displayed, and there are more and more of them.

You can also overlay on the map traffic information from the Yandex.Traffic service by clicking on the traffic light in the upper left.

In short, a very convenient application that has helped me out more than once. Naturally, it requires an Internet connection to work.

Each week, Look At Me takes a look at one notable app that's changing the way we think about mobile experiences, and digs into the ideas, the technology, the developers behind the App Store icon. In the new issue - a conversation with the creators of the ETransport application, which allows you to track the movement of urban public transport.

The ETranport application finds the stops closest to the user and displays the direction of movement there. Just select the desired stop, and the application will calculate how many minutes later this or that public transport will arrive.

ETranport provides users with the opportunity to create their own list of favorite stops and routes, so that they don’t have to re-search for the ones they use most often.

A tab with a list of favorite stops and routes can be made the starting tab- this will simplify the process of using the application.

The ETranport application also stores in memory the last few stops and routes viewed by the user.

The movement of public transport in the application can be tracked using an interactive map, and according to the list with information about arrival time and distance.

The free ETransport application collects information about the location of urban transport equipped with GLONASS sensors and calculates the arrival time of buses, trolleybuses and trams at a specific stop. The application automatically determines the user's location and prompts him to select one of the nearest stops on the interactive map. Next, the screen displays a list of routes and the time after which this or that public transport will arrive at the stop. Thanks to this, you can save time and plan your route wisely. Also in the ETranport application there is a function for saving favorite stops and the ability to view the history of your movements.

“When we were students and just starting our small business- a mobile application development company - we were missing an interesting project for our portfolio. I wanted to come to a potential client and say: “Do you know ETranport? We did this! That is, initially it was a kind of side project, but in the end it was it that attracted new clients.

The principle of operation of the application itself is quite simple - ETransport determines the user’s location and offers to select the nearest transport stops on an interactive map, and then shows the approaching transport and the time after which it will arrive at the stop. The biggest problem associated with the launch of ETranport is that it is necessary to negotiate with the city authorities on the right of access to data on a specific location of all public transport units. In my opinion, this is strange - after all, the convenient service that we create for citizens benefits any government. Moreover, this is simply wrong - such data cannot be hidden, it must be in the public domain. In this regard, St. Petersburg is at the forefront: the authorities there have not only opened this data to everyone, but also encourage developers of such projects (but ETranport is currently considered the best in terms of functionality). In about 40 other cities, no one hides transport location data, but in Moscow they are practically classified.

In the next month we will launch ETranport in 11 more cities in Russia, but for now I cannot disclose information about which cities are included in this list. I think their residents will definitely not miss this event. In Moscow, for example, in the first four days we attracted more than 40 thousand users. Unfortunately, not everyone noticed that Moscow (as, by the way, St. Petersburg) is still in the beta testing stage, and the application does not yet have many stops and routes, and the information about the location of transport may differ from the real situation.

In the future, we will definitely add to the application the function of constructing a point-to-point route, as well as the ability to calculate travel time and even warn your friends about how many minutes you will arrive. We will also remind users in advance that it is time to leave the house so as not to miss their tram, otherwise the next one will not arrive soon. We will pay more attention to ensuring that users can communicate with each other, choose the “King of the Roads” or the “Mayor of the Stop.” We want people to share valuable information with each other (for example, what the line is under control) and discuss various things like rude drivers and singing conductors.

There are five people in our team. I studied at the Gorky USU, where I met Maxim Rovkin, our Android developer. He brought an incredible server-man Pasha Dick to our team - on the eve of the most difficult test of the entire study period, he worked all night to ensure that our application launched in Moscow on time and without problems. It’s funny, but we first met our iOS developer Egor Eremeev in person after the release of the first version of ETransport. Egor and Max met when they took the Unified State Exam in different cities (Egor in Naberezhnye Chelny, and Maxim in Yekaterinburg), but with equal diligence they solved tests for the Far East. Designer Pasha Osipkin found us himself - in January 2013, we received a letter from him in the mail, saying that your application is excellent, but the design is crap. So Pasha became part of our team, which we are still incredibly happy about.”

What ground transport is passing nearby and when a bus, trolleybus or tram will arrive at the stop can now be found out using the Spb Transport Online mobile application. It processes data from the public transport portal of St. Petersburg, which is received using the GLONASS system. Recently, all ground transport in the city has been equipped with it.

The application can be downloaded for free on the developers' website, Google Play or iTunes. It works on iOS, Windows and Android smartphones.

For now, the portal from which the application takes information is working in test mode and sometimes fails, which the developers write about on their blog. Once the map showed only a dozen buses throughout the city, and recently almost all trams and trolleybuses disappeared from it for some time. The system's shortcomings are planned to be corrected in the near future.

Spb Transport Online determines the user's coordinates and prompts him to choose the appropriate mode of transport: bus, tram or trolleybus. The app then shows you which routes are nearby, marks their location on the map and calculates the approximate time of arrival at the stop. Data is updated every time you move your phone, press the Refresh button, or every 10 seconds when auto-refresh is turned on.

The developers plan to add aquabuses and the subway to the program, the ability to plot your route around the city, taking into account transfers, as well as search for stops near the user and create a schedule for them.

Dmitry Ignatiev, press secretary of the Transport Committee: “The portal is currently operating in test mode; only buses are displayed correctly. Aquabuses will be launched almost today, but electric transport - probably before the end of June. As planned, at the expense of private investors, a mobile application was developed to make the portal more accessible; a person could not only find out where his bus is before leaving home or work, but also right from the stop, logging in from a gadget and seeing a map.”

An application that will allow Muscovites to receive information about the arrival time of a bus, trolleybus or tram at a particular stop will be introduced in the next two months.

Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of the City of Moscow Maxim Liksutov said that specialists are currently developing a special application for mobile phones, Interfax reports.

The mobile application will allow you to find out the arrival time of the desired bus, trolleybus or tram. The service, among other things, will have a function for calculating the travel time from the user’s location to the transport stop. With its help, the program will be able to notify the passenger when he needs to leave the house in order to catch his bus. The application is currently undergoing final testing.

Maxim Liksutov added that the department has already formed a new transport network. It was created in such a way that the nearest public transport stop from anywhere in the city was no longer than seven to eight minutes on foot. New routes will be presented at the beginning of 2014.

Meanwhile, there are currently a number of useful sites and applications that help residents of the capital easily navigate the city.

On the RusAvtobus website you can enter the addresses from where you are going and where you are going, the time, what time you leave, and the required modes of transport. The entire route will be laid out on the map, and below it will be written what kind of transport you need to use, how many meters you will need to walk on foot, and even what the cost of a taxi will be if you still prefer to go by car.

The official interactive map of the Moscow Metro will show how to get from one station to another and how long it will take.

On the official website of Russian Railways you can find out which train, how much time and at what price you can get from point A to point B on a specified date.

The Wiki Routes website will draw a given route on the map, tell you which bus to take and at which stop to get off, and calculate how many meters you need to walk.

The Mostransavto website will tell you in detail about public transport routes in the Moscow region - just enter the name of the stop or route number.

Yandex.Timetables will offer routes for planes, trains, trains and buses if you want to get out of the city.

Among the free applications, “Moscow Transport” is very functional: you can plot a car route, find out where parking lots are, traffic cameras, gas stations with “correct” and “wrong” fuel, check whether a taxi operates legally, view your fines, send a message to the owner of the car that blocked the exit. The app also contains information about traffic rules, fines and violations, public transport fares and even the latest transport news. Among other things, the application allows you to check whether your car has been towed. Available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

The useful application “iWhere is the Bus” will advise which transport to choose for your route, and can even determine from a photo which stop you are at. In addition, the application works offline, so it will not stop working if there are interruptions in communication. The developers warn that running the application can quickly drain the device. iOS only.

Using the Moscow Parking application, Moscow motorists can find out where they can leave their car and how to get to the desired parking lot. You can also pay for parking directly from the application. Available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Yandex.Taxi is one of the most convenient for ordering a taxi: you can select the desired taxi fleet and price category, warn the driver that you will need a child seat, see the called car on the map and much more. You will be notified via SMS when the driver will be there and how much the trip will cost. Available for iOS, Windows Phone and Android.

MosParking is a good “parking” application that will show on a map or in a simple list all paid and free parking lots near your location and provide all the information about each of them.

The Metropolitan application will determine which metro station is closest to your location, just in case, show how many meters away other stations are, draw the route on a diagram and calculate how many minutes the journey will take. iOS only.

Do you think it will be faster to get there by bus or by car? It’s parked in my yard, but now on the roads it’s like this... - an elderly lady addressed us, who were waiting for the bus.

Better by bus!

How soon will it be? It’s so good at Suvorovsky - there are information boards and you can immediately see how long to wait, but here there are no such boards.

Now let’s see,” the husband took out his smartphone, launched the Yandex.Transport application and gave hope. - In 7 minutes, the bus is already on its way to us.

ABOUT! I also have a smartphone, can I watch it too? - the lady became interested.

Yes, sure.

The desire to know when the necessary transport will arrive is quite understandable even on warm days - it’s easier to make a decision. After all, what’s so good about the center of St. Petersburg is that it’s faster to get to many places on foot than to first wait and then take a bus/trolleybus/tram.

In order to solve the problem of informing St. Petersburg residents State Public Institution "Transportation Organizer" launched a project to equip stops with information boards.

And at major stops, interactive information desks were installed.

“On the touch screen you can get information about the arrival time of transport at the nearest stops and routes, use an interactive metro map with the ability to calculate travel time from one metro station to another. In addition, on the screen you can get general information about city transport, fares, types of travel tickets, emergency phone numbers, get acquainted with tourist information (provided by the city tourist information office), etc.”

By the way, they help not only find a bus, but also charge your smartphone.

A special section on the city transport portal helps you see where the necessary transport is currently located and how you can generally get from point “A” to point “B” in the city without using the metro. The section is currently working in test mode and the most convenient way to search is by route number.

Let's say we need 10 trolleybuses. Select, click - search. We receive a link where you can both see the location on the map (marked in green) and a list of all stops.

You can also call the information and reference service at 576-55-55. But, honestly, I haven’t tried this option.

The easiest way so far, as I wrote above, is the Yandex.Transport application. You need to select your location, mode of transport and flight number. Of course, there is some error when displaying the movement of the same bus. On the map it has already turned, but in reality it is still standing at the crossroads. However, 30-50 seconds is not a big difference for a waiting passenger.
