Installing an alarm on a BMW. Anti-theft system for BMW

The BMW X6 is a mid-size business class crossover with a Sports Activity Coupe body, specially developed by BMW. The car combines both the features of a coupe (strong roof slope), and an SUV, expressed in all-wheel drive, high ground clearance, large wheels.

In this section we will tell you which alarms for the BMW X6 are most effective, what is best to install and how to protect the BMW X6 from theft.

Car alarms

This car is of particular interest to car thieves and is therefore considered a high-risk vehicle. Our experts recommend installing the following anti-theft devices on the BMW X6:

  1. Pandora DXL 5000 is a modern security system, equipped with many sensors that allow you to control the entire perimeter of the car, and controlled using a mobile phone. It also allows you to monitor the vehicle using a specially developed online service.
  2. Black Bug SUPER BT-85-5DW Director is an anti-theft system that uses modern Five D interactive coding technology and recognizes the owner by a contactless tag. Gives the owner the opportunity to drive a car and receive information about it using a mobile phone.

Satellite anti-theft systems

Satellite security systems prevent theft and carry out a post-theft search for cars by determining their current coordinates and immediately requesting assistance from emergency services if the need arises. For diesel BMW X6s, it is recommended to choose the following system:

  1. Arkan Satellite Comfortable Z is a satellite system designed for use on modern business and executive class cars that are at risk of theft.

Mechanical anti-theft systems

Mechanical anti-theft devices can provide an additional line of protection for the BMW X6:

  1. Tecnoblock 12 KS (Technoblock 12 KS) - F10 (insurance) - a brake system blocker, the installation of which not only guarantees a high level of protection, but also provides significant discounts when issuing CASCO policies for the risk of "theft".

More than 30 insurance companies provide discounts on CASCO policies for the risk of theft when installing a Tecnoblock 12KS mechanical lock.

The main principle of ROSNO's activities is customer care. More than 17 million people and over 50 thousand enterprises and organizations have ROSNO insurance policies and contracts.

AlfaStrakhovanie Group has a reputation as a reliable and sustainable company. Today, AlfaStrakhovanie Group meets its obligations with the own funds of several companies with a consolidated authorized capital of more than 8.5 billion rubles. The high reliability of insurance operations is supported by reinsurance programs in the largest companies in the world.

Today the company offers 55 insurance products - from popular auto insurance programs to special insurance for the space industry. The offered insurance products are available to any resident or company in any locality or city in Russia.

Everyone worries about the safety of their property. And the more expensive it is, the more gray hairs appear, because nothing is given for nothing, but there is always the risk of losing what you have earned through hard work. Therefore, it is better to ensure its protection and safety in advance.

The car is the first to need this. The Russian market brings considerable profits to BMW. Citizens willingly buy cars and other vehicles of this particular brand, since it has earned their trust and gained popularity.

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Sometimes car owners simply cannot afford guarded parking lots; some find it inconvenient; there are various reasons. In such cases, people simply leave their iron horse near their house in designated parking areas. But no one guarantees the safety of the four-wheeled assistant.

Theft of various car components (audio systems, wheels, tires, rims, wipers, rear-view mirrors, headlights, engines) often occurs. Law enforcement agencies do not stand aside: for such actions they are subject to arrest for 15 days and an additional fine, and in the worst cases, imprisonment for up to five years.

But despite the risk, there are always brave souls. Statistics indicate a decrease in car theft cases in Russia. Thus, in 2015, the theft rate fell by 8% compared to 2014. But once you look at the numbers, it becomes clear that the thieves simply switched to more elite models.

After all, thefts of domestic brands fell by 15%, while foreign cars were stolen by only 5% less. And all this despite a drop in car market sales of almost 40%. According to the BMW concern, their sales in Russia decreased by 22.6%. BMV cars do not lead in the theft rate, but in 2015, 858 cars of this brand were stolen.

BMW and its products

Every BMW driver feels proud of his car. This German brand is time-tested, since this company began its existence even before World War II from a small factory for the production of aircraft engines.

Its main opponent was the Mercedes-Benz company, but thanks to a different approach, namely, making cars for the driver, and not for passengers, BMW carved out a place for itself in the sun, winning the hearts of power lovers.

Now the company keeps up with the times, produces electric cars and their hybrids, and occupies a leading position in the market. The headquarters of BMW is located in Munich, and the assembly of cars of this brand in Russia takes place in Kaliningrad at the Avtotor plant.

The cars of this German company are distinguished by power, maneuverability even on bad roads, maneuverability, reliability and variety of design and style. The best-selling models of the fifteenth year were:

  • BMW 3 and 5 Series sedans;
  • X line – BMW X3, X5 and X6.

The company produces cars and sports cars, as well as motorcycles and bicycles. Three times in its history it was on the verge of disappearance or absorption, but now it is one of the most stable and largest (only 27 factories around the world) auto companies in the world.

How to protect your car from theft

Nowadays, alarms are used to protect any car from theft or robbery. This is an electronic device that prevents thieves from quietly and quietly stealing parts, things in the car, and the car in general.

And the first alarms appeared only in 1968 for the Corvette brand. The trend was picked up by everyone, and primarily by the American Ford, but BMW owners did not lag behind. The principle of its operation is to react to relatively strong contact with the machine, then the activated alarm notifies the owner or others about an unauthorized attempt to access the property.

The alarm itself consists of a main unit, a transceiver, a key fob and many sensors (impact; opening doors, hood, trunk). In turn, the key fob is equipped with a fairly large display and a small number of necessary buttons; this design is convenient and practical.

So, when a certain sensor reacts to a stimulus, it transmits a signal to the main unit, which already signals theft. The notification process occurs using sound and/or light signals. Signals are provided with a large list to choose from; you can choose and change the one you use yourself.

The informed victim has time to call the police, but in most cases, a triggered alarm, or even just its presence, instantly scares away ordinary intruders. If you take care and buy not the cheapest protective device, it will also have very useful functions.

Special built-in GSM/GPRS modules will allow you to “communicate” with the alarm via SMS. Messages can be sent from your phone and you can receive replies or just various notifications. These modules allow you to determine the location of the car and transmit information from the alarm unit to the user's key fob or a special smartphone application, and even to the website of the manufacturer of the security product.

Also, when certain actions are recorded, the alarm itself will call a pre-specified number and inform you of its location and the reason for the call. Another function of these modules is listening to the interior.

Thus, you can easily control a thief’s route using GPS data transmission and predict his actions if information about them was announced inside the car. If the thief somehow ended up in the car in advance for the purpose of robbery, when there are no strangers in the cabin, he will be noticed by the volume sensor and will transmit a signal to the main unit about the penetration.

Often the alarm system is equipped with the function of autostarting the engine, heater, adjusting the interior for the driver (seat height, steering wheel forward, etc.). Autostart allows you to perform some actions with the car remotely.

In addition to the above, it regulates the opening/closing of the hatch, the folding of the rear-view mirrors, and the ignition of the headlights (used as lighting on the way to the doors of the house). Moreover, we are pleased with the wide variety of acceptable ways to perform autostart (remote, periodic, at a specified time, or temperature setting).

Autostart makes it possible to remotely check whether all openings are closed and automatically start the air conditioner at the desired temperature (you can also leave children in the car themselves, because they are not in danger of overheating).

With these autostart settings, you can get into the car with an already optimal temperature inside, and for those who like to warm up the engine before starting, there will be no need to sit and wait for the completion of a rather boring process, because you can do this in advance with one click. They install autostart on the car without an alarm, but the stingy one pays twice.

Alarms are installed in service centers or right at the place of purchase, but some install them themselves. The process of connecting an alarm system with auto start depends on the model and series of the car. If you follow the diagram, be careful, patient, know the connection points and have a normal understanding of electrics, probes and measuring instruments, this is really not that difficult to do.

Are there built-in security systems on BMW?

The standard BMW security system provides the possibility of satellite tracking and has the “Anti-Hi-Jack” function, which stops the engine if it is located remotely from the key fob.

That is, if the key fob is located further from the car at a certain distance, the car’s engine, at the behest of the autostart, stops working, and the alarm turns on the alarm mode.

But this will not happen when the car is moving in order to avoid accidents and damage. To turn on a locked engine, you need to enter a deactivator code. For this option of the built-in satellite system "Caesar Satellite" you need to pay an annual tariff.

But in order to take advantage of the capabilities of the standard alarm, you must first activate it. This can be done with the help of specialists, or by yourself in plus or minus ten steps, and turning it off is even easier.

It must be said that the security system installed by the manufacturer has all the standard and most necessary functions, but the additional one provides the ability to autostart and two-way (owner-car) communication via a radio channel and a key fob.

Is there a possibility of the alarm being hacked?

There are several hacking methods:

  • hacker (interception of code sent from the key fob);
  • scanning (the device goes through all possible code combinations);
  • grabber;
  • technical hack.

The latter used alarm instability to electric discharges, but today all alarms are equipped with galvanic discharge at the terminals, so it is not relevant. Of course, some security systems are hacked by scanning a dialog code, but there are alarm options with individual encryption keys and a non-scannable code. An additional alarm system with auto start provides a wider range of services and is much more convenient than a regular one, and even more so a built-in one.

The principles of personal protection of the BMW brand are largely effective when making changes to the operation algorithms and location of standard components of the anti-theft system. A car thief who has knowledge of how to bypass the standard security system and is prepared for this will face difficulties in conditions of limited time and increased risk, which will make it inappropriate for him to steal such a car in the first place. As individual measures to protect this brand, we can offer the following anti-theft protection services:
Transfer and reprogramming of KASS blocks. Protection against key entry using BMW programmers even in service conditions, in order to avoid preparing the car for “quick theft”.

The diagnostic connector is a weak point in German cars, because... Bypassing the standard immobilizer and diagnosing locks is carried out through the diagnostic socket, special “starters” and diagnostic equipment. We suggest re-pinning the standard connector and repainting the wires in one color. After these changes, the most common method of theft will be difficult; the equipment for recording keys simply will not work. To call for service, you will need to wear the adapter shown in the photo. Not the most convenient way, but effective. There are alternative ways to protect the diagnostic socket. This is a lock from the security system or a secret button with a lock that breaks the control signal in the connector wiring.

Relocating the diagnostic connector will prevent the common method of unauthorized bypass of the standard immobilizer during theft, by writing a new chip into the memory of the EWS controller (standard immobilizer module). The procedure lasts extremely quickly, because the module is located at the driver’s feet. Therefore, connecting a laptop and overwriting the memory of a new key takes tens of seconds. The technology does not involve the participation of the “native” car key.

When installing a PC on a BMW, we offer the following locks:

As for the gearbox, this lock (without a lock on the gearbox) will not allow the handle to operate electronically, which is also not a standard solution when implementing a tricky complex.

Crankshaft and camshaft sensors - these blockages do not disrupt the normal operation algorithm of the engine circuits, they are not calculated by the diagnostic tester and are not subject to bypass by the “spider”.

Locking the key reader - in case of theft, it will confuse the thief, presenting him with the puzzle of how the standard immobilizer works.

Blocking external and internal Keyless antennas. External antennas are blocked for protection from repeaters and easy penetration into the vehicle interior. Internal antennas are blocked for additional protection of the standard immobilizer from intelligent hacking.

Replacing the door cylinder.

Preventing entry into a car is the first thing that can be presented to a car thief as a puzzle. One of the budget options is to eliminate standard methods of entry - replacing the door cylinder. More serious protection is mechanical locks in the doors and armored glass.

Installing hood locks on a BMW requires professional metalworking and manual dexterity. On BMWs, it is recommended to install two hood locks in the corners due to the dimensions of the lid itself. Their purpose is to prevent an attacker from reaching the engine compartment locks. We also offer the Athlete lock for BMW, as it blocks the control cable on two locking mechanisms at once. While keeping the standard cable protected from stretching, in the closed position the hood opening handle has free movement, which protects it from breakage. We recommend electro-mechanical locks that do not require any action from you to close and open.

Owners of BMW cars regularly contact our organization with questions about the effectiveness of the standard security systems of this car. Since the volume of these questions is regular and sometimes even overwhelming, we will try to cover this situation in more detail. Reveal possible threats that await the car owner, show the strengths and weaknesses of standard security and anti-theft systems, as well as their vulnerability. In conclusion, we will make a number of conclusions and proposals.

In 2015, 858 BMW cars were stolen in Russia, of which 176 were from the 2013-2015 model year. All these cars were equipped with standard security systems. The question comes up - how relevant are the standard immobilizer and standard satellite alarm? Let's try to carefully understand these issues in several parts of our review...

Part 1: BMW satellite system.

Preface:

Recently, a BMW owner approached us with a request to understand the situation of an incorrectly functioning engine lock. He believed that the additional security system installed in our service had broken down. After diagnostics, these suspicions were excluded, and the client contacted the official BMW service with a question about providing data on the location of the engine lock from the standard satellite system. As a result, after some ordeal, our client received this paper:

What is BMW Satellite System?

At the BMW manufacturing plant, the car is indeed equipped with a standard GPS satellite positioning system. This element is part of the multimedia complex, and is also involved in the operation of the Connected Drive package (by and large, in our country it represents exclusively service functions for the user). What is offered for purchase in Russia as a satellite security system is somewhat different, positioned as a standard satellite security system from BMW:

When imported into Russia, BMW cars go to the warehouse of the distributor of this brand, where they are subject to modification. This additional modification - complete set for all cars*, includes the installation of a set of satellite positioning system of the Caesar Satellite brand. Caesar is a subcontractor that carries out installation, subsequent monitoring and maintenance of the satellite security system installed on BMW. The owner, when purchasing a car, pays for this kit, since it is already included in the price of the car itself. The user cannot refuse this system, because to do this he will have to dismantle it. He is only able to voluntarily agree to pay an annual tariff, with an average cost of 30,000 rubles, or not activate it at all.

Does the BMW satellite system protect against theft?

Perhaps this remains the main question of interest to all owners of this brand of car. Of course, the BMW satellite system (or Caesar Satellite) is capable of protecting a car from theft and even does this in a number of cases, as evidenced by the company’s operational report. But how effectively does this happen? To assess all the risks associated with deactivating the satellite system and stealing a BMW, let's analyze the ease of dismantling and the degree of theft resistance of this security equipment.

Many of us have come across this video clip on the Internet:

It is obvious that despite the excellent quality of wiring installation, which meets the high requirements of the German auto concern, the main modules of the systems are installed in standard places. Dismantling the central unit of the satellite system takes a matter of seconds. But is this the main thing? The system includes a digital engine lock, which would seem to provide a real barrier to the thief. But understanding that this blocking is also installed in standard and easily accessible places, and even on the starter circuit (see the response to the letter to the client at the beginning of the article), we understand that this is not an obstacle for the thief.

Considering that there are two main categories of thefts:

  • Technical theft (this includes the theft of a car using STS - specialized technical means)
  • Theft with the human factor (this includes all methods except the use of specialized technical means)

we draw the following conclusion: The standard BMW satellite alarm can protect against theft using human factors, but not against technical theft. If, during the theft, Caesar's call center receives a coordinate from the car, then it is able to return it to its rightful owner; by the way, it will not be possible to block the car while it is moving, since the blocking is done on the starter circuit. If the operator did not receive such a coordinate (and we remember about GSM broadcast suppression systems and others), therefore, the machine, which has reached the sump site and has been subjected to the dismantling of everything abnormal, will not return to the owner.

* As of 2016, Caesar satellite alarm system is included as a mandatory element for BMW X5, X6, X5M, X6M models. With voluntary activation of the tariff plan. Previously, this system was integrated into other BMW models.

Many BMW X5 owners want to disable the standard alarm and install something more reliable. This is especially true in our realities, because... X-5 is stolen quite often.

BMW theft statistics in Moscow

Many people think that old, dirty cars (2000-2003) are not in demand among car thieves. It is a myth! Such cars are well dismantled for spare parts and body numbers can be changed. On the black market, stolen cars of the specified model years go for 200-300 thousand. Do you think that this amount will not attract a thief?

Here are the official statistics of car thefts of a Bavarian concern in Moscow. Information taken from 1gai.ru.

At the same time, we see that the X5 is the leader in theft. Well, let's protect the car!
