One of the most common tire sizes for modern passenger cars is R16. The domestic market offers a wide range of summer models from different manufacturers. Rubber differs significantly in cost, so the motorist is faced with the acute question of finding optimal combination prices and quality. Much depends on the preferences of the car owner, his driving style and travel geography. With the help of our experts, we will try to determine the main criteria for selecting R16 summer tires.

Tread pattern. One of the most important parameters of summer tires, which affects the efficiency of steering and braking, is the tread pattern.

  1. The symmetrical tread is perfect for driving around the city and on well-paved roads. But for heavy vehicles this is not the most suitable option.
  2. The asymmetrical pattern has clearly defined three zones. Each of them has its own imprint. If the middle part is responsible for the rapid drainage of water, then the outer and inner zones provide good stability when maneuvering. This type of tire is considered universal.
  3. The directional tread has the best grip on wet roads. The disadvantage of the V-pattern is the long braking distance. Experts do not recommend installing such tires on cars without ABS.

Properties of rubber. Each manufacturer has its own recipe for preparing the rubber mixture. The characteristics of tires such as shock-absorbing capacity, lateral stability, wear resistance, resistance to cuts and hernias.

  1. Soft rubber has a low noise level and a comfortable ride over uneven surfaces. But during sharp maneuvers, accelerated tread wear occurs.
  2. Rigid models can serve the owner for a long time, forgiving starts with slipping or emergency braking. But driving on dirt roads will be uncomfortable.

Load Index. When choosing tires, you should pay attention to the load index. This indicator indicates the maximum permissible weight per tire. It has a digital designation. To determine the optimal value, you should take as a basis the maximum total weight car. To take into account the additional load during acceleration or braking, a multiplying factor of 1.2 is applied.

Speed index. Depending on the driving style, the speed index is selected. It indicates the maximum permissible driving speed for a long period of time. Short-term exceeding of this threshold does not affect the integrity of the tires. On tires, the speed index is indicated in Latin letters; the further the letter is in alphabetical order, the higher the maximum speed.

Our review includes the 10 best summer R16 tires. All of them are widely represented on the Russian car market. When compiling the rating, the results of testing by independent experts and reviews of domestic motorists were taken into account.

  • resistance to aquaplaning.

Flaws

  • hernias form;
  • high price.

Bridgestone Turanza T001 (R16)

Japanese summer tires Bridgestone Turanza T001 were created as a replacement for the popular Turanza ER300 tires. Experts agreed that the new product surpassed its predecessor in all respects. First of all, the car’s stable behavior on wet roads is noted. This is both effective removal of water from the contact patch and excellent adhesion to wet surfaces. The main reason for high technical parameters is a unique Nano Pro-Tech technology, which was introduced at the factories of the Japanese brand. Thanks to it, carbon molecules can be evenly distributed in the rubber mixture. What prevented tires from rising higher in our ranking?

Users complain about noise while driving. This is a consequence of the hardness of the tires, so the rubber will not work with every suspension.

Advantages

  • innovative manufacturing technology;
  • stable behavior on wet roads;
  • wear resistance;
  • strong sidewall.

Flaws

  • noisiness;
  • rigidity.

Toyo Proxes CF2 (R16)

The Japanese company presented European-style summer tires Toyo Proxes CF2. It is recommended for fans of high-speed driving. The tires have a number of positive characteristics, which were confirmed during testing by experts from the Polish publication Motor. In 2017, tires took high positions in the noise and efficiency categories. But the tires performed worst during emergency braking on a dry road. Not the strongest point of the model is its resistance to aquaplaning. Rubber closes the TOP 6 of our rating.

Domestic car owners are satisfied with the combination of price and comfort. The tires do not make noise while driving and hold the car well on the road. But off-road and when extreme driving tires make the car uncontrollable.

Experts consider the key parameters of rubber to be effective braking on wet roads and excellent grip. GOODYEAR engineers have developed a unique ActiveBraking technology. The use of a three-dimensional block design made it possible to increase the contact area when pressing the brake pedal sharply. Another advanced WearControl technology is responsible for monitoring tire wear.

Advantages

  • softness and elasticity;
  • noiselessness;
  • excellent handling;
  • good grip on the surface.

Flaws

  • rapid tread wear;
  • weak sides.

Hankook Tire Ventus Prime2 (R16)

The Korean summer tires Hankook Tire Ventus Prime2 have the lowest noise level. This statement appeared after tests carried out by experts from the Polish Motor magazine in 2015. The tires also earned praise from specialists for their economy and braking efficiency, both on dry and wet roads. Russian motorists have a slightly different position. The introduction of orange oil into the rubber mixture is surprising among experts. It is designed to increase the elasticity of rubber, like silicone liquid. Experts noted the asymmetrical tread pattern, which has fairly deep drainage grooves. Therefore, the tires hold the road well even in rain. The advantages of the model include resistance to wear.

Russian car enthusiasts liked the tires for their affordable price, ease of balancing, and noiselessness. But it seems that the manufacturer failed to solve the problem of rigidity. Users are also unhappy with the lack of side protection.

Advantages

Flaws

  • rigidity;
  • lack of lateral protection.

Kumho Ecsta HS51 (R16)

An excellent option for fans of a quiet ride would be to buy Kumho Ecsta HS51 tires. The manufacturer managed to create comfortable summer tires. They have a minimal noise level and absorb road unevenness well. Experts note an unusual tread pattern; the asymmetry of the pattern is very weakly expressed. As for behavior on wet roads, there are certain disadvantages. While wide grooves facilitate efficient water drainage, the shoulder areas cannot cope with large flows. As a result, grip on wet asphalt leaves much to be desired. The model closes the top ten best R16 summer tires in our rating.

Users are satisfied with the low noise level and good shock absorption. The disadvantages include an average resource and a long braking distance.

The warm season is steadily approaching, which means it’s time to prepare for the upcoming planned replacement of car tires. If your old tires are worn out, it’s time to familiarize yourself with the test results of summer tires for the 2016-2017 season.

Every year, authoritative European publications conduct comparative tests of current models of the most popular tire brands. AvtoDela tried to collect all the information together and provide a generalized rating of summer tires from different manufacturers. The main factor we took into account when compiling the list of models was the testing of rubber by at least two different expert communities. Below is a little about each of the expert authorities.

ACE/ARBO

The Automobile Club of Europe (ACE), together with representatives of the Austrian Auto Club ARBÖ, tested inexpensive summer tires with dimensions 195/65 R15. Such wheels are often used on golf-class cars (actually Volkswagen Golf Renault Megane Ford Focus). The competition for the title of best budget tire took place at the North German training ground in Papenburg. For testing, we used a Volkswagen Golf VII 1.4 TSI, which was accelerated to 100 km/h to measure the braking distance on dry and heavily wetted (before puddles) asphalt. Next, the car went through a “slalom” to determine stability when maneuvering. In addition, the stand measured the “free run” - the distance that the car is able to cover by coasting, which characterizes the rolling resistance of the wheels and affects fuel economy.

Autonavigator

The Hungarian magazine Autonavigator, in its test of 15-inch 195/65 tires, used a Ford Focus II station wagon. The tests were largely similar to the ACE/ARBO, except that the braking distance was measured three times: from a speed of 120, 100 and 60 km/h.

All-German Automotive tested slightly narrower tires (185/65 R15), which are also suitable for B-class cars ( Hyundai Solaris, Renault Logan), as well as “executive” tires measuring 225/45 R17 for business class (Toyota Camry, Ford Modeo, etc.). In the first case, a Renault Clio was used, in the second, a reference representative of mid-size cars - the Volkswagen Golf VII.

Auto Zeitung/GTU

Another test of 17-inch tires was carried out by the German magazine Auto Zeitung together with the German society technical supervision GTU. They chose the BMW 1 Series as a test bench. The tests in all cases were approximately similar to the first two options, so we will not go into a more detailed description.

AutoBild

Like the ADAC club, their fellow countrymen from AutoBild conducted two tests, which were also very unusual for our latitudes. They tested large mid-size tires as well as summer crossover tires. Of course, the testing methodology differed for each type of summer tire. In the first case, these were exclusively asphalt disciplines; in the second, an assessment of cross-country ability on the ground, in mud and grass was also added. However, due to the specifics of the test and the absence of tires of the same name in the tests of other publications, we will not consider each participant in detail. Let us only note that in the tests of crossover tires, experts were happy for each model, stating that none of the participants showed dismal results, but in the case of UHP (UltraHighPerfomance) class sports tires, the results varied greatly. According to the results of the AutoBild test, the best crossover tires were the Continental SportContact 5 SUV, the worst were the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 SUV K117A, although they also showed good results. In the ranking of sports tires, the new Continental SportContact 6 was at the top, and the worst was the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT.

Vi Bilagare

This season, the Swedish magazine Vi Bilagare analyzed expensive first-tier tires. Although last year attention was paid to inexpensive second-tier summer tires. Not surprisingly, in Europe, not only the automobile market, but also the tire market is on the rise, which cannot be said about Russia. It is also unusual that this year’s test was carried out by Northern European specialists in America, at the Uvalde test site in Texas.

Cars Kazakhstan

While the Russian edition of the magazine “Automobiles” is ill due to the crisis, their colleagues from Kazakhstan forked out money to test summer tires. However, compared to the European giants, it turned out to be thin - only four models. Although the selection itself turned out to be very relevant: Bridgestone Ecopia EP150, Hankook Kinergy Eco K425, Michelin Energy XM2, Nokian Hakka Green 2.

The grand Russian automotive journalism newspaper “Autoreview” traditionally conducted another test of summer tires. True, unlike the Swedish Vi Bilagare, Russian specialists, on the contrary, tried to assemble relatively affordable tires, without forgetting, however, about big names. The short list of Russian experts included “green” Bridgestone Ecopia EP150, Cordiant Road Runner, Formula Energy, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, GT Radial Champiro Eco, Hankook Kinergy Eco K425, Headway HH301, Matador MP 44 Elite 3, Nokian Nordman SX, Nokian Hakka Green 2, Tigar Sigura. Both the tire size (185/65R15) and the carrier vehicle, which was the red Hyundai Solaris sedan, were “popular”.

A little about how summer tires are tested

Tire testing is a lot of research work involving a lot of important factors. Test site, measuring equipment, constant monitoring of tire condition (weight, tread depth, pressure, shore hardness, etc.). All this requires enormous resources. Moreover, all this fuss is for the sake of identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each tire. To do this, each set of tires is repeatedly immersed in a test environment, simulating various driving situations. Braking on dry and wet asphalt, lap speed on dry and wet surfaces, assessment of aquaplaning, noise level, ride comfort and wear resistance.

Barum Brillantis 2 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The Czech brand Barum promises that Brillantis 2 provides extended service life and significant savings. In addition, the manufacturer says that this universal model combines balanced performance characteristics and a clear response to steering, A additional benefits are increased mileage and minimal risk of aquaplaning.

TEST RESULTS

Oddly enough, among the Asian outsiders in our rating there was also one European tire - Barum Brillantis 2. Czech tires did not perform well on both dry and wet asphalt. And if Barum tires can still be rated “three plus” for handling, then for braking ability even “three minus” seems to be a slightly overestimated rating. And if tires saved fuel... But no, and here the Czechs’ results are slightly below average. Summing up the tests, Barum Brillantis 2 one thought comes to mind - the Czech Republic will not soon become the center of the tire industry.

Summary results of the Barum Brillantis 2 summer tire test: ACE/ ARBO - 5th place out of 10, ADAC (R15) - 11th place out of 16, Autonavigator - 14th place out of 17.

Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The Russian website of the tire company states that thanks to the latest technologies from Bridgestone, the Ecopia EP150 tire has reduced rolling resistance and at the same time has excellent braking properties and increased wear resistance. According to the results of comparative tests, ECOPIA EP150 tires can reduce fuel consumption by 7.1%.

*Source: Japan Automotive Technology Association

The goal of this development is to offer a sufficient level of safety with optimal energy performance.

To achieve this, Bridgestone has developed a new rubber compound called Nano Pro-Tech™. This technology is designed to reduce rolling resistance and therefore carbon dioxide consumption and emissions.

A tire tread was developed specifically for this purpose, which consists of special blocks and strips that improve traction and braking on wet surfaces.

TEST RESULTS

Ecotires from Bridgestone were tested this season by domestic experts from Autoreview, as well as the Kazakh edition of Automobiles magazine. In both tests, the Japanese eco-tire Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 was among the last. The Autoreview newspaper called them a disappointment of the test. On wet asphalt, their braking distance is eight meters longer than that of the test leader Hankook Kinergy Eco K425. And in other respects, the Ecopia EP150 performed poorly. Truly weak tires.

Summary results of the test of the Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 summer tire: Cars Kazakhstan - 4th place out of 4, Autoreview newspaper 10th place out of 10.

Bridgestone Turanza T001 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The description for the Bridgestone Turanza T001 says that it is a perfectly balanced premium tire recommended by major European automakers. It has exceptional handling in both wet and dry conditions and provides a high level of comfort when driving at various speeds. The increased comfort and improved performance of the BRIDGESTONE Turanza T001 are especially noticeable when traveling over long distances.

TEST RESULTS

The Bridgestone Turanza T001 summer tire turned out to be quite controversial. In the Autonavigator test, these tires took second place. The magazine justified this high result by the tires’ good performance in wet road conditions, low noise levels and high wear resistance (which was assessed visually based on test results). In dry weather conditions, the tires performed worse, receiving scores slightly above average. However, in the ADAC tests, the result was almost the opposite: the Bridgestone Turanza T001 tires received the highest score for handling and safety on dry surfaces, while low grip on wet roads and poor aquaplaning resistance led to a final low score and 12th position in their rating. Tests from the German Auto Zeitung brought even more confusion to the quality of the tires, in which the Turanza T001 turned out to be completely average, with relatively poor results on wet surfaces and slightly more intelligible behavior on dry asphalt. Result: 7th place out of 14. It is difficult to say what is causing this ambiguity in the results - the unstable quality of the rubber itself is to blame, or it was influenced by different test conditions. However, it is worth noting that in the same situation, Continental, Goodyear and Pirelli tires took unambiguously high places.

Summary results of the Bridgestone Turanza T001 summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 12th place out of 16, Autonavigator - 2nd place out of 17, Auto Zeitung/GTU - 7th place out of 14, Vi Bilagare - 5th place out of 9.

Continental ContiSportContact 5/ Continental ContiSportContact 5 SUV – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Speaking about the Continental ContiSportContac 5, the manufacturer claims that it is a high-performance tire with outstanding handling. The new product is developed using the innovative BlackChilli rubber compound, which guarantees the maximum possible transmission of braking forces and contributes to low rolling resistance during normal driving, and its ability to adapt to different vibration frequencies of the tire. ContiSportContact 5 differs from the previous model by improved performance characteristics. Namely, the ContiSportContact 5 tires have significantly reduced braking distances on both wet and dry roads, reduced rolling resistance by 10% and increased mileage by 13%.

TEST RESULTS

Continental ContiSportContact 5 in size 225/45 R17 was tested by ADAC, as well as the Auto Zeitung/GTU tandem. Both expert communities found the tire to have excellent balance. The result of the uncompromising grip of the Continental ContiSportContact 5 tires is low fuel efficiency, reflected in serious rolling resistance. Another disadvantage is the noise of the rubber, but this factor is of little importance in cars with good sound insulation.

Summary results of the test of the Continental ContiSportContact 5 summer tire: ADAC (R17) - 1st place out of 16, AutoBild - 1st place out of 7, Auto Zeitung/GTU - 1st place out of 14.

Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

ContinentalContiPremiumContact5 - excellent universal tire, which combines comfort and safety at the highest level. This is the flagship of the company’s tire lineup, and therefore the manufacturer boasts of technology and high quality.

ContinentalContiPremiumContact5 is a new premium tire for passenger cars of various types, from compact models to full-size sedans. It has extremely short braking distances on dry and wet roads, low rolling resistance, excellent performance and comfortable handling.

Improved traction of the ContinentalConti Premium Contact5 tire is achieved through the use of macroblocks that provide an increased contact patch. 3D grooves help reduce braking distances, while wide ribs on the inner and outer shoulders enhance wet grip.

The new longitudinal groove geometry prevents hydroplaning even at high speeds. The flatter contour of the tire promotes even wear and increased mileage, and the cross-shaped groove arrangement reduces noise.

The use of a hard rubber compound in the sidewall makes the ContinentalConti Premium Contact5 more rigid and reduces deformation, while the shoulder remains more flexible and helps reduce rolling resistance. Thus, the movement becomes more comfortable.

TEST RESULTS

Another model from the German tire manufacturer, the ContinentalConti Premium Contact5, also showed strong results. The first line is in the Swedish Vi Bilagare and the second in the fifteen-inch ADAC test. The tire showed ideal behavior on dry asphalt. Accurate, adequate reactions on the highway, short braking distance. On wet surfaces it is only slightly worse. The main advantage is the same as in the case of ContiSportContact 5 - good balance.

Summary results of the test of the ContinentalConti Premium Contact5 summer tire: ADAC (R16) - 2nd place out of 16, Vi Bilagare - 1st place out of 9.

Dunlop Sport BlueResponse – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The manufacturer says about his brainchild: “DunlopSport BluResponse deserves the best handling epithets,” despite the environmental implications and corresponding fuel economy. The presence of polymers in the rubber mixture allows you to quickly adapt to the road profile, significantly increasing the level of grip. Dunlop has a higher slip threshold; The cornering speed on wet surfaces is frankly impressive and allows you to feel the stiffness of the shoulder area on the steering wheel.

At the product launch stage, the developers carried out various tests, including by the union of independent experts TUV SUD Automotive. Then, based on the results of seven disciplines, Dunlop tires Sport BluResponse outperformed the competition in most key factors. The braking distance on wet surfaces of this model is three meters shorter than the average of tires from other manufacturers, and the coefficient of adhesion is 3% higher than the average result of test participants. These impressive benefits are complemented by the BA marking from the European Test Commission for exemplary rolling resistance, wet grip and acoustic comfort.

Dunlop Sport BluResponse has been represented in the official European dealer network since the beginning of 2013.

TEST RESULTS

Dunlop tires could have taken third place in our general rating, but in the ADAC and AutoZeitung tests different names of this manufacturer were used (Sport BlueResponse and Sport Maxx RT2, respectively). As a consequence, there is no way to evaluate different views on the quality of each of these models. However, it is worth noting that both British tires performed positively, being only slightly inferior to Goodyear in stability on wet roads, and superior to it in grip on dry surfaces.

Summary results of the Dunlop Sport BluResponse summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 3rd place out of 16, Vi Bilagare - 6th out of 9.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Goodyear's EfficientGrip Performance boasts Category A wet grip (Category A1 for wet grip is the highest rating under EU regulation) and shorter braking distances.

ActiveBraking technology improves tire contact with the road surface, resulting in shorter braking distances by two meters (8%) when driving on wet roads2 and by 3% when driving on dry roads3.

WearControl wear control technology provides the optimal combination of wet grip and low rolling resistance over the life of the tire.

The new base component features FuelSaving technology, which reduces tire energy dissipation. An 18.4% reduction in rolling resistance means improved fuel efficiency and lower costs for the consumer.

TEST RESULTS

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance was tested by the Hungarian magazine Autonavigator (195/65 R15) and the German club ADAC. Like the Continental ContiSportContact 5, these tires showed the shortest braking distance on both dry and wet surfaces. In addition, the Goodyears performed excellently in handling and braking on wet surfaces, as well as in dry weather braking. The results were poor in high-speed cornering on dry roads, as well as in rolling resistance (which will be reflected in higher fuel consumption).

Thus, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance has proven itself to be a safe tire for confident driving in all road conditions. These tires are suitable for family people who value safety over maneuverability at high speeds. This was not achieved by other models, which were more suitable either for some or other conditions.

Summary results of the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 4th place out of 16, Vi Bilagare - 2nd place out of 9, Autonavigator - 1st place out of 17, Autoreview newspaper - 3rd place out of 10.

GT Radial Champiro – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The Chinese tire manufacturer did not hesitate to call the GT Radial Champiro premium. The accompanying materials say: "This premium directional studded tire with a new innovative design ensures reliability even in extreme weather conditions." In addition, it is noted that the tire has excellent wear resistance, and optimally designed side grooves contribute to better removal of water and dirt from the contact patch. The new Silica compound improves handling on ice and traction on snow.

TEST RESULTS

There has long been an opinion circulating on the Internet that “there will always be an Asian who will do it better.” So, in our rating, among the outsiders, tires from Singapore (an island state in Southeast Asia) especially distinguished themselves - GT Radial Champiro. If we omit the obscene language, the testers' verdict is: "This rubber will try to kill you."

But let's leave the jokes for later. The GT Radial Champiro really surprised us with its combination of negative qualities. In three tests (versions VP1, FE1 and HPY of different sizes were tested), Singaporean tires demonstrated unequivocally disgusting grip on wet asphalt. And where Barum was allowed to perform some maneuvers, Champiro tried to break into an uncontrolled slide. Things were little better in the dry areas of the test site. The tire modification with the VP1 index performed the worst. The Champiro FE1 that replaced it showed slightly more adequate results in “dry” tests. The 17-inch GT Radial Champiro HPY can handle the road even better (as far as possible), but this is more due to the larger contact patch (the tire width is 225 mm) than to improved technology. In general, we can state that at the moment GT Radial tires perform extremely poorly in their primary task of keeping the car on the road, and do not guarantee your safety.

Kumho tires were able to participate in all competitions. This manufacturer was not included in the general list, because... tested in tests different models. However, it is worth noting that this Korean manufacturer (unlike Nexen and Hankook) has always been among the outsiders. Hard tires designed for hot, dry Asian asphalt performed poorly in the conditions of central Europe, with its cool, wet spring (and even more so in the more severe Russian conditions).

Summary results of the GT Radial Champiro FE1 summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 16th place out of 16, ACE/ARBO - 10th place out of 10, ADAC (R17) - 15th place out of 16.

In the races of 17-inch tires, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 K117 showed itself to be similar to the younger model - the best quality at the lowest price, while outperforming even some more expensive brands. Of the obvious disadvantages, it is worth noting the relatively low grip on wet asphalt.

Based on the totality of their qualities, Hankook tires still received a final rating of “good”, and can be recommended in cases where the purchase price is more important than the properties of the rubber at high speeds.

Summary results of the test of the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 K117 summer tire: ADAC (R17) - 5th place out of 16, AutoBild (sports UHP tires) - 2nd place out of 6, AutoBild (SUV tires) - 7th place out of 7, Auto Zeitung/GTU - 9th place out of 14.

Hankook Kinergy Eco K425 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

HANKOOK Tire has developed a cutting-edge concept for next-generation tires for passenger cars. The KINERGY ECO series combines the most advanced HANKOOK technologies in the field of safety, dynamic performance, comfort and environmental compatibility. KINERGY is an abbreviation of Kinetic Energy, or energy of motion (from the Greek kinesis, meaning movement), and also refers to the energy that an object receives while moving. In addition, it is the force that must be expended to dislodge an object from its place and set it in motion. These new HANKOOK tires are significantly lower than conventional tires in this class. The ECO index gives the user a reference point and is synonymous with Ecology (protection environment) and Economy, which indicates the environmentally friendly and economical (fuel-saving) properties of the tire.

The new KINERGY ECO tires are an impressive achievement by HANKOOK Tire. The combination of new and previously unused materials in this segment, such as silicate nanoparticles, and advanced mixing technologies allows KINERGY ECO tires to reduce rolling resistance by 12% compared to conventional tires. These energy savings translate into lower fuel consumption and thus lower CO2 emissions. At the same time, these all-round tires show excellent results in disciplines related to safety and braking on wet roads. Compared to other tires in their class, they reduce braking distance by 8%.

“KINERGY ECO is the beginning of a new era,” says Jin-Wook Choi, executive vice president of HANKOOK Tire and head of the company's European division. "The values of our society have changed greatly in recent years. People think and act with the environment in mind and want increased fuel efficiency from tires, without wanting to give up safety and driving comfort. With KINERGY ECO we have achieved this combination. Of course ", our highest priority remains the safety of our customers. We do not compromise here!" An unbalanced, asymmetrical profile is critical to the tire's handling characteristics.

The optimized tread pattern of the HANKOOK KINERGY ECO not only improves vehicle handling, but also generally makes the tire's driving characteristics more comfortable and less noisy. Optimally positioned wide grooves around the entire circumference of the tire effectively prevent hydroplaning. Self-sharpening tread lug edges improve traction not only on wet but also on dry surfaces. The tire's wide angular treads and larger contact patch improve traction and stability when cornering and at high speeds on dry surfaces.

Since 2008, HANKOOK has followed the H-LOHAS (Hankook Lifestyle Oriented Health and Sustainability) philosophy, which, in addition to continuously developing environmentally friendly products such as KINERGY ECO, also includes responsibility towards society and the environment. It is therefore not surprising that the new HANKOOK Tire concept is designed to meet EU tire marking standards. The EU marking, adopted by the European Commission for all 27 EU countries in the form of a directive, is intended to add transparency to the European car tire market from November 2012. This marking will point car owners to low-noise products with increased rolling resistance and at the same time to safe products with high grip on wet surfaces.

TEST RESULTS

Among budget models In the ACE/ARBO test, the Korean Hankook Kinergy Eco K425 became the leader. They snatched such a place in the current test of the Autoreview newspaper. In the overall standings with more expensive tires, Hankook performed well. Perhaps the main advantage of Hankook tires, compared to the above-mentioned summer tire models, is the price. For example, in the rating of fifteen-inch tires, the Germans from ADAC placed the Kinergy Eco K425 right after the more expensive Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance. It is worth noting that Korean tires showed a better level of safety and handling on both dry and wet roads, however, due to the longer braking distance (in both cases), Hankook was rated slightly worse than its American opponent.

In Autonavigator tests, Korean tires took only 9th place. At the same time, all the tires that the Germans rated better than the Kinergy Eco K425 are in a more expensive price segment, and the gap with Hankook was relatively small. One of the positive qualities of the tire is its low rolling resistance, which increases fuel efficiency.

Summary results of the test of the Hankook Kinergy Eco K425 summer tire: ADAC (R15) - 5th place out of 16, ACE/ARBO - 2nd place out of 10, Autonavigator - 9th place out of 17, Cars Kazakhstan - 2nd place out of 4, Autoreview newspaper - 1 place out of 10.

Infinity Ecosis - summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Infinity Ecosis tires are designed for use in the warm season on a wide range of passenger vehicles - from compact city cars to mid-size crossovers and SUVs.

Infinity Ecosis tires are distinguished by their economical use, increased handling, improved traction, effective braking, reliable protection from aquaplaning and long-term use.

TEST RESULTS

Chinese Infinity Ecosis tires cannot be called the cheapest in the segment, but they could not show particularly outstanding results. According to ADAC, the main disadvantage of this tire is poor handling and low resistance to hydroplaning in rainy conditions. At the same time, on a dry road Infinity Ecosis also did not reveal positive aspects. The only advantages that can be highlighted are low noise and low price, but otherwise the brainchild of the Chinese chemical industry does not yet even reach the average position in the summer tire market.

Summary results of the Infinity Ecosis summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 9th place out of 16, Autonavigator - 8th place out of 17.

Michelin Primacy 3 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The MICHELIN Primacy 3 tire is designed for a wide range of mid- and luxury-class cars. Compared to the previous model, the new product, according to the manufacturer, provides a higher level of safety, improved in three directions at once: on dry roads, on wet roads and when cornering. The improvements achieved in three aspects of safety are reflected in the name of the tire - Primacy 3. In addition to unique grip properties, the tire is distinguished by traditionally high Michelin performance in two more areas: mileage and fuel efficiency.

TEST RESULTS

Summer tires Michelin Primacy 3 are not new for a long time. Despite this, the tire of the French brand was tested by two expert communities - Auto Zeitung/GTU and Vi Bilagare. The results were not surprising: the test results almost completely repeated the history of previous years. Once again Michelin lags behind other famous rivals! The thing is that the trump card of their tires is a high degree of comfort and a long service life, and these indicators do not decisively affect the ratings. On wet roads, Michelin Primacy 3 is at the level of average. On dry surfaces these tires slow down better. But rolling resistance is the lowest in the Auto Zeitung/GTU test. But the resistance to hydroplaning is not the best.

Summary results of the Michelin Primacy 3 summer tire test: Auto Zeitung/GTU - 8th place out of 14, Vi Bilagare - 7th place out of 9.

Michelin Energy Saver + – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The manufacturer claims that using the MICHELIN Energy Saver tire can reduce braking distances, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Michelin Energy Saver tires are the fourth generation of "Energy" tires and are designed for use on different cars: city, family, coupe and minivan. They have unique characteristics that ensure a high degree of safety and reduce vehicle operating costs.

Company experts note the following advantages of Michelin Energy Saver summer tires: increased safety, tire durability and reduced fuel consumption.

These characteristics were achieved through the use of the following innovative ideas.

Michelin Energy Saver tires have a reduced weight, therefore, when driving they heat up more slowly, and when braking, on the contrary, they heat up faster and for a shorter period. Using a special rubber mixture consisting mainly of silica. When making tires, a silicon mixture is used and the presence of the usual component - soot - is practically eliminated (it is present in a minimal amount to give the tire a black color).

The advantage of Michelin Energy Saver over its other analogues is that, while providing significant savings, it also improves traffic safety by reducing braking distances on wet roads.

TEST RESULTS

In last year's Autonavigator tests, French tires outperformed Nokian in many respects, however, according to ADAC, the results were worse. More specifically, the German motoring community had doubts about the stability of the Energy Saver+ on wet surfaces, which ultimately contributed to the low rating. We can only say with certainty that the tested Michelin model is not the best option for summer tires (although far from the worst). Considering that Energy Saver + tires are significantly more expensive than Nokian and Kumho tires with similar characteristics, they are ranked lower in our Michelin rating.

Summary results of the Michelin Energy Saver+ summer tire test: ADAC (R15) - 10th place out of 16, Autonavigator - 6th place out of 17.

Nexen N"Blue HD Plus - summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

The manufacturer positions NEXEN N’Blue HD as summer energy-saving tires for class B and C passenger cars, which are highly resistant to wear. This model was specially developed in Korea for the European market. When developing HD, the developers paid special attention to safety and dynamics. N'Blue is also distinguished by excellent handling and very effective braking, which is especially important when taking sharp turns.

TEST RESULTS

But the results of Nexen were not so clear. Nexen N "Blue HD Plus tires turned out to be perfectly adapted to dry asphalt, showing the best results in handling, safety and braking, but such qualities are counterbalanced by behavior on wet roads. Due to poor results in rain conditions, as well as high noise, Nexen tires did not even make it into the top ten of the German autoclub ADAC's ranking, ending up on line 13. Thus, as in the case of Pirelli, we can only recommend this model for areas with low rainfall in the warm season (for example , Kazakhstan and the Caspian territories).

Summary results of the test of the Nexen N"Blue HD Plus summer tire: ADAC (R15) - 13th place out of 16, ACE/ARBO - 1st place out of 10.

Nokian Hakka Green 2 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Nokian Hakka Green 2 is a summer tire for compact and mid-size family cars, offering unique safety for our roads. The tire effectively prevents aquaplaning, reduces fuel consumption and has a longer mileage.

The manufacturer also focuses on modern tire technologies: Reducing vibration, increasing the level of comfort

The sidewall cushioning system is called Silent Sidewall Technology. A special layer of rubber compound absorbs shock and reduces the impact of road surface imperfections on the car, reducing vibration levels. Silent Sidewall noise absorption technology is a special zone on the side wall of the tire that dampens vibration and any sounds that come from the road surface through the tire treads. This reduces noise levels, making driving more stable and comfortable.

Effectively prevent hydroplaning

A curved, ramp-like structure on the tread blocks on the tire's inner shoulder directs and accelerates the flow of water from the longitudinal grooves to the transverse grooves. Excellent aquaplaning protection properties are maintained even as the tire wears out. To reduce the mobility of the tread blocks, optimized support bearings are located between them. The mounts improve handling and provide a comfortable noise level and more even tread wear.

More reliability, safety, comfort and less consumption fuel

The combination of Intelligent Green Silica rubber compound, environmentally friendly pine oil and canola oil, and fine carbon black particles used in mining tires adapts to the road, temperature and driving style. The new tread compound remains stable over a wide temperature range and withstands the stress of uneven rough roads.

TEST RESULTS

The Finnish tire Nokian Hakka Green 2 is still little known on the market. This is because this is a relatively new model of the brand. This season, this tire was noted in three tests at once. “Hakku Green” was tested by foreign experts Vi Bilagare, neighboring specialists from the magazine “Automobiles” Kazakhstan, the newspaper “Autoreview” and the magazine “Za Rulem”.

It’s interesting that while Nokian’s new product performed quite confidently in the Kazakh and Russian tests, the Scandinavian testers put it in penultimate place. In the Autoreview newspaper test, these are the tires with the lowest rolling resistance, but the main thing is that despite this, they also showed the best braking distance on wet asphalt in the Autoreview test. On dry surfaces the behavior is half a step worse. However, in general, this is a very balanced model.

In the “Behind the Wheel” magazine test, Nokian Hakka Green 2 took first place out of twelve possible. Experts noted the shortest braking distance, as well as the best speed and controllability during the changeover on both dry and wet asphalt, the highest level of comfort, smoothness and efficiency.

Summary results of the summer test Nokian tires Hakka Green 2: Automobiles magazine - 1st place out of 4, Vi Bilagare - 3rd place out of 9, Autoreview newspaper - 2nd place out of 11, Za Rulem magazine - 1st place out of 12.

Nokian Line/ Nokian zLine – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Nokian Line is a very new model in the Nokian summer tire line. The manufacturer immediately announces a number of its strengths.

For example, to ensure rapid removal of water from the contact patch and improve grip on wet roads, the Nokian Line tread is equipped with special Swoop Grooves. They are located in the shoulder area and are adapted to remove more moisture, providing better protection against aquaplaning.

Another feature is a rubber compound with silica particles, which guarantees reliable contact with both dry and wet road surfaces. In addition, thanks to its special composition, it generates less heat while driving, which reduces fuel consumption and extends the life of the tire. The asymmetrical tread pattern makes the tire more stable. The central tread area consists of a harder rubber compound, which further improves handling at high speeds.

The shoulder area, consisting of double blocks, increases the clarity of steering force transmission and gives the tire additional rigidity. During normal, relaxed driving, the blocks flex, thereby reducing rolling resistance and allowing the vehicle to consume less fuel. With a sporty, aggressive driving style, the shoulder blocks close together, increasing the tire's rigidity.

TEST RESULTS

Two models from Nokian performed approximately at the same level as the Koreans in the tests: Line, measuring 195/65 R15, and its seventeen-inch analogue, zLine. Compared to the Hankook Kinergy Eco, the Finnish tires showed higher grip in tests on dry asphalt, but performed worse on wet roads. In addition, Nokians turned out to be slightly less economical in terms of fuel consumption, but more resistant to wear.

In tests of 17-inch tires, Nokian's results were also close to Hankook's. However, this time the Nokian zLine was slightly better on wet roads, and performed worse on dry pavement.

Considering the close cost between the same-class Nokian and Hankook models, we can draw the following conclusions: if you live in an arid climate, then when choosing 15-inch wheels at a low price, we recommend you Nokian Line, and among 17-inch tires, you should take a closer look at the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 K117. Accordingly, for rainier climates, it is better to choose Hankook Kinergy Eco K425 from budget 15-inch wheels, and Nokian zLine will perform better on 17-inch wheels. The main thing is not to get confused (or simply not to skimp on more expensive models from the top three leaders, which clearly handle better both dry and wet roads).

Summary results of the Nokian Line summer tire test: Autonavigator - 7th place out of 17, ADAC - 6th place out of 16.

Pirelli P Zero – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Pirelli P Zero - designed specifically for luxury cars, exclusive sports cars and powerful SUVs of the new generation, P Zero tires are also recommended for use on middle-class cars with powerful engines. The new asymmetric tread design concept optimizes the contact patch at high speeds, resulting in excellent grip and handling, as well as reduced noise levels.

The outer shoulder with wide, rigid blocks provides enhanced handling characteristics in corners and during sporty driving. The new tire has managed to reduce the risk of aquaplaning, thanks to the presence of three wide longitudinal grooves and additional diagonal grooves. Three continuous longitudinal ribs guarantee high directional stability at high speeds, a significant reduction in braking distance, and excellent traction characteristics at high speeds on both wet and dry road surfaces. The use of the latest generation rubber compound in the production has made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the tire, improve handling and grip, increase the level of comfort and minimize the effect of tire deformation when driving at high speeds.

TEST RESULTS

Pirelli P Zero tires with dimensions 225/45 R17 also showed excellent results, taking an honorable third place in Adac research. In the Auto Zeitung/GTU tests, the P Zero shared third place in the rating with Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 tires. In all tests, Pirelli was only slightly behind our leaders, which indicates high quality P Zero. Perhaps in hotter conditions Italian tires would have performed better, but the tests took place in Germany, where the climate is cooler than on the Mediterranean coast. In any case, we can recommend Pirelli PZero for our southern regions and Kazakhstan.

Summary results of the Pirelli PZero summer tire test: ADAC (R17) - 3rd place out of 16, Auto Zeitung/GTU - 3rd place out of 14.

Sava Intensa HP – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Sava Intensa HP sellers focus on the price-quality ratio. They claim that the universal pattern is capable of performing well on both asphalt and dirt roads. The Sava Intensa HP is said to have very high performance in terms of vehicle handling as it features an advanced cord system. Also, the material used to make the tire is quite light, which helps reduce fuel consumption during operation. Read below to see how true the sellers' statements are in practice.

TEST RESULTS

Sava is another European brand. Like the more famous Dunlop, Sava is a subsidiary of the American monster Goodyear - a kind of Dacia in the world of tires, only from Slovenia. The Sava Intensa HP, tested by ACE/ARBO and ADAC, did not reveal any extraordinary capabilities, but was able to outperform significantly more expensive tires.

In the heats budget tires, Sava Intensa HP performed well on dry surfaces. However, poor performance during emergency braking in the rain contributed to the overall low ranking. Interestingly, in the ADAC tests, the Intensa HP showed itself differently - excellent results on wet asphalt and poor grip on dry roads, which, combined with high noise, dropped the Sava to 8th place in the German rating.

In the battle of 17-inch tires, this brand was represented by the Intensa UHP model (which differs significantly from the Intensa HP not only in size, but also in tread pattern). The tires turned out to be close in characteristics to the Nokian zLine - relatively good grip on dry asphalt, and somewhat slurred behavior on wet roads. Among the advantages, it is worth noting the best resistance to wear.

Summary results of the summer test Sava tires Intensa HP: ADAC (R17) - 1st place out of 16, ADAC (R15) - 4th place out of 16, ACE/ARBO - 8th place out of 10.

Toyo Proxes T1 Sport – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Summer tires Proxes T1 Sport are ideal for sports sedans and coupes. Providing extremely precise control of the machine on both wet and dry surfaces, the tires provide excellent stability, especially at high speeds.

The durable inner tread rib with grooves improves braking and reduces uneven tire wear. The central rib gives the car stability at high speed and improves its response. The tire's powerful shoulder block increases the tire's contact patch area and improves handling and steering response. Wide center grooves and water drainage channels reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

The very hard top layer of the belt gives the wheel stability at high speed. The solid sidewall provides good handling on the track. The rigid viscose layer provides stability when cornering at high speeds, and the non-flexible bead filler provides a quick response to steering wheel turns when driving straight.

The two-component rubber compound (not available in all sizes), meeting the different needs of the inner and outer sides of the tire, provides excellent handling and braking. The inner tread compound improves handling. The outer compound is designed to improve cornering stability (allows you to enter corners at higher speeds).

Depending on the tire width, two different profiles have been developed. A tire with a width of 285 mm or more has a wide central rib, which improves cornering control and road grip.

TEST RESULTS

In addition to Bridgestone, other Japanese tires were presented in the tests: Toyo Proxes T1 Sport. These tires were clearly not created for the Central European climate, which led to a low position in the rating. The Toyo's frankly weak point is the wet road - both tires proved to be significantly worse than the rubber models described above in terms of safety and stability on wet surfaces. As for dry asphalt, everything is not so simple. The tire holds the road well when maneuvering, but the braking distance leaves much to be desired. Among the individual features, it can be noted that Toyo Proxes T1 Sport is subject to rapid wear.

Summary results of the test of the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport summer tire: ADAC (R17) - 11th place out of 16, Auto Zeitung/GTU - 10th place out of 14.

Vredestein Sportrac 5 – summer tires, test

OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Vredestein summer tires are an updated version of the Sportrac 3 tires, which showed excellent results in tests. The company deliberately “missed” number 4 in the name of the new product in order to avoid possible confusion with the name of all-season tires Vredestein. Sportrac 5 are absolutely silent and extremely comfortable summer tires with excellent stability indicators and a sporty profile that guarantee excellent handling both on dry and on wet road surfaces. The Sportrac 5 size range allows these tires to be installed on more prestigious mid-range cars.

Vredestein Sportrac 5 tires were developed in collaboration with the Italian design company Giugiaro. Over the past few years, this fruitful collaboration has already led to the creation of tires such as the Vredestein Ultrac Cento and Ultrac Sessanta, which are very popular among drivers.

Giugiaro Design developed the tread pattern and sidewall markings of the Sportrac 5, as well as some significant components. Shading at the base of all four tread grooves emphasizes the asymmetry and gives the tire a sporty appearance, while side markings complement the unique, elegant design. In addition, the shoulder of the Sportrac 5 tire has the Vredestein logo next to the tread wear indicator.

Excellent handling and long service life.

Unlike Sportrac 3, Sportrac 5 tires have an asymmetrical rather than directional tread pattern. The tire also features design flex points on the center grooves that provide the necessary flex for low rolling resistance and optimal tire footprint for even distribution of pressure on the road surface. This ensures even tire wear and excellent handling on both dry and wet road surfaces.

Handling Tuned Sidewall Technology

Sportrac 5 uses Handling Tuned Sidewall technology. Along with reinforced outer shoulders and a robust design, this technology provides a particularly sporty car behavior and excellent handling.

Safe and quiet driving

Sportrac 5 tires have four wide longitudinal grooves for optimal water drainage and maximum protection against aquaplaning. The intelligent distribution of the tire's shoulder blocks provides excellent braking performance on wet surfaces, as well as low noise levels (external and internal). Combining all these advantages, Vredestein engineers have created the sportiest summer tire on the market, the Sportrac 5 for the V segment.

TEST RESULTS

Vredestein Sportrac 5 is perhaps the most controversial model in the AvtoDel selection. It won the German ADAC test for 185/65 R15 tires, but fell to the bottom of the ranking in the Vi Bilagare rating. What is the reason? There is no explanation. Most likely, in this case, a whole complex of factors came together in one place, the main one being rivals.

We carried out tests at the end of last summer at the AVTOVAZ test site near Togliatti, where we collected all the new products for the upcoming spring-summer season of 2016. During the tests, the air warmed up to +20…+30 ºС.

A kind of watershed in the price line can be the well-known Hankook Kinergy Eco on the market at 2800 rubles and a new product from Finland - the second generation Nokian Hakka Green tire, which can be bought for 3100 rubles.

Cheaper are the familiar domestic tires Nordman SX (2,700 rubles), Yokohama BluEarth AE01 (2,550 rubles), Cordiant Sport 3 (2,400 rubles) and a new product from the Korean company Kumho - the Ecowing ES01 model (2,500 rubles), made in China. And the most affordable tire in our test is the Amtel Planet Evo tire (2,200 rubles), a new product for the season. The Pirelli company considered the brand leaving the market to be well promoted in Russia and decided to breathe new life into it, using modern technical solutions and technologies.

More expensive test participants are the very popular Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 tires (3,500 rubles), as well as the Japanese Toyo Proxes CF2 (3,400 rubles) and Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance (3,450 rubles). There are two more models in the same price group: for the first time, Michelin Energy XM2 tires (3,500 rubles), made in Russia, and Japanese Bridgestone Turanza T001 (3,500 rubles) are participating in our tests.

It is gratifying that five out of twelve models are domestically produced.

Under budget tires you need to choose the appropriate car. We liked it. Due to its age, this is an inexpensive car, but in perfect condition. It also does not have a stabilization system, which is to our advantage: the electronics will not interfere with exercises.

Test procedures

Modern summer tires do not require running-in. All manufacturers confirm this: before testing, just drive a couple of kilometers - and they are ready for testing. So for summer tires, not only the procedure, but also the very expression “running in” is an anachronism.

Having finished with efficiency, we make a circle along the service roads. Here, on road patches, seams, cracks and special irregularities, we once again evaluate the smoothness of the ride and the noise level in the cabin - under more severe conditions, as close as possible to real ones.

In these exercises, Kumho tires did not perform well compared to others: at speeds of 90–100 km/h they emit an unpleasant low-frequency hum, and on road irregularities, shaking and vibration are annoying.

Before returning to the base, we taxi up a 12% dirt climb, simulating a country road. Here we subjectively (without measurements) evaluate the ability of tires to start and accelerate on a dirt road (with dust and sand). The exercise is somewhat reminiscent of assessing cross-country ability in deep snow: the expert tries to start and accelerate with and without slipping; checks how much traction drops when slipping, whether it is difficult to control the moment the wheels slip into slipping.

Let me remind you that the “ground” test is optional, its results do not count toward the overall test, but are presented only as additional information. We introduced it into the test program at the request of readers who were interested in the capabilities of tires on unpaved roads.

wet business

The next test is braking on wet asphalt, since on it, especially with the use of ABS, the tires wear out minimally.

We start the test... by stripping the coating. We perform a dozen to one and a half braking sessions on non-qualifying tires - in this way we carefully “sweep” the asphalt, removing wind-blown dust, grass and very small stones from it. After this procedure, the asphalt becomes clean and the adhesion coefficient is stable.

According to the method that is used today by both tire manufacturers and independent experts, we measure the braking distance on wet asphalt when decelerating from 80 to 5 km/h - since at speeds close to zero, the ABS does not work correctly, sometimes allowing the wheels to lock, which leads to distortion of results. Many tire companies set a different minimum speed threshold in their internal tests - they end measurements at 7 and even 10 km/h.

To get better results, it is important not only to start braking at the same point, but also to approach it at the same speed. We keep 83–85 km/h - not according to the speedometer, but according to the high-precision measuring device VBOX. The braking corridor should be very narrow - we brake literally next to the next. This is extremely important: a dozen centimeters (only half the tread width) to the side - and the coating already has a different coefficient of adhesion, which means the result will float away.

Before braking, the tester must be sure that the brakes are cold, which means their effectiveness is maximum. Therefore, after each measurement, the pads and discs need to be cooled - when returning to the starting position, the driver does not use the brakes; the speed is reduced by switching to lower gears. By the way, this is also why we chose a car with a manual transmission.

The average number of braking events is six. Sometimes, if the tires show unstable results, you have to add a couple more runs.

Continental tires, as usual, “brought” about a meter of saved braking distance to their closest rivals. But imagine our surprise when the new Hakka Green tires beat them by almost the same amount!

Wear

Let's move on to more strenuous exercises. The first is braking on dry asphalt. The technique is essentially the same as in the wet, but we brake from 100 km/h - accordingly, the speed of approach to the braking point is 103–105 km/h. To further cool the brakes, you have to make a larger circle.

In this exercise, I was pleased with the stability of the Continental - for many years in our tests it consistently brakes better than others. Nokian came close to the leader, but could not stand level - the loss was a meager 100 millimeters. But Michelin was disappointing - it showed the weakest braking properties both on dry and wet asphalt.

In conclusion, the most interesting and revealing, but at the same time the most difficult test for the pilot: a change of lane, which is also called a one-time lane change. The driver’s task is to find the maximum possible speed at which the car will successfully perform the maneuver and stay on the given trajectory, that is, it will not knock down any of the cones that mark the entrance and exit corridors. Races begin at a known passing speed, and with each subsequent approach it is increased by 1–2 km/h. It’s not just the best result that counts, but the one that can be repeated.

This exercise, on the one hand, is taken from real life- there are so many people on our roads who like to fuss between the rows! On the other hand, it allows you to evaluate the lateral grip properties and steering characteristics of tires, the ability of the frame to withstand sharply increasing, literally peak lateral loads, and steering accuracy during extreme maneuvering.

The geometric parameters of the rearrangement are also not far-fetched - the width of the lanes is 3.5 meters, just like on a real road. But on the first lane, the “path” is sandwiched by cones so that on each side the car has a margin of no more than 100 millimeters. This forces the tester to use the same trajectory at the entrance. The length of the transition from the left lane to the right is 12 meters. GOST for vehicle testing regulates 12-, 16-, 20- and 24-meter distances. And the maximum lateral load on tires is provided by the 12-meter one.

First, the rearrangement is performed on wet asphalt, and at the end we repeat this exercise on a dry surface, where the tires get more than the total in all previous exercises.

On wet roads, both in terms of speed and handling, the updated Nokian Hakka Green tires were ahead of the rest. The Continental tires were very close in terms of maximum rotation speed, but noticeably inferior in terms of handling.

We got the most interesting results on dry asphalt - here the best speed (68.2 km/h) was simultaneously shown by three tires: Amtel, Continental and Nokian, and the Kumho result (68.1 km/h) was only one tenth more modest.

They got up in a bunch!

Perhaps it would be best to start the epilogue with congratulations to the winner of the test, and these are the Nokian Hakka Green 2 tires. Nevertheless, all the tires that took part in the tests pleasantly surprised us.

Firstly, we were pleased with the accuracy of the final results. The tires that took the last seven places have a difference in final points of less than two percent! In fact, this is close to the measurement error. Secondly, all the tires performed very well, despite the fact that their prices are more or less affordable.

Leading automobile tire manufacturers have prepared at least ten new products for the 2016 summer season, which does not happen every year. Of course, the crisis also affected tire manufacturers, but despite the unfavorable situation, they continue to improve their product, closely monitoring competitors and actively influencing the direction of development of the tire market. This season, special attention is paid to increasing the service life of rubber, grip on wet roads, as well as stable behavior in corners, smoothness and speed characteristics - it is no coincidence that the magic “F1” appears in the name of one of the tires. In general, everyone tried their best. Let's see what comes of it.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4

One of the most interesting new products of the 2016 summer season is, according to the manufacturer, “number one” in handling on dry surfaces and will delight those who profess a sporty driving style. Unveiled last fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it has every chance to compete for laurels with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and the sixth generation Continental SportContact, which will undoubtedly invigorate the racing tire market.

Externally, the fourth generation Pilot is very similar to its predecessor, but it has received a number of innovations, thanks to which it has excellent characteristics. In particular, the highest level of safety in its class. The “Dynamic Response” technology works for this: due to the use of an additional layer of ultra-strong aramid-nylon threads, the tire does not succumb to centripetal forces and maintains a stable contact patch at ultra-high speeds. This is confirmed by the results of tests of tires 225/45–17 94Y/W XL and 225/40–18 92Y XL, carried out by one of the leaders in the field of examination, testing and certification - the German company TÜV SUD.

The so-called positive rubber profile has been increased by 10 percent. Due to the use of a larger amount of rubber compound in the contact patch (the composition, of course, is kept in the strictest confidence), which is in direct contact with the road surface, one of the highest levels of grip and controllability is achieved. Thus, a more rigid tread structure allows the tire to maintain greater contact patch stability, especially when maneuvering at high speeds.

Michelin CrossClimate

It is known about all-season tires that in summer they behave worse than summer tires, and in winter - worse than winter tires. Michelin tried to change this perception by developing the CrossClimate, which is perhaps the best all-season SUV available today. True, the company does not use this “unreliable” term, preferring to call the tire summer, but suitable for use in winter. It seems to be a play on words, however, if desired, it draws on a new concept.

The rubber is actually quite unusual. Among all the new products, it is the only one that has not an asymmetrical, but a directional tread pattern, the V-shaped design of which (without longitudinal grooves), by the way, is reminiscent of Michelin Alpin 5 winter friction tires. It turns out that the tire is a summer tire, but not quite. And they are softer than regular summer tires.

The CrossClimate tread has a large number of sectors separated by wide drainage channels. Each sector has a special shape that changes its angle, which allows the edges of the blocks to work effectively both during acceleration and when performing maneuvers on snowy surfaces.

In addition, all sectors have sharp edges on only one side - to improve acceleration dynamics on snow. At the same time, the other side of the block has smoothed edges, which provides a stable contact patch area and minimizes the risk of loss of traction due to deformation that can occur when the edge of the block interacts with the hard surface of the road.

This rubber uses two types of sipes. Those located in the shoulder area have a structure that expands towards the base (as the tread wears, this allows you to maintain the ability to effectively drain water), and those located in the central part are a Z-shaped profile cut inside the block. This complex sipe shape in a summer tire helps reduce the deformation of the tread blocks, and this, in turn, improves the tire's handling.

Of course, it also uses an innovative rubber compound, which, according to the manufacturer, provides optimal grip on the road, including snow-covered roads, as well as a high level of wear resistance.

It turns out that we have a very good option for summer and quite acceptable for the off-season (and even winter). By the way, it is quite anti-crisis for areas where winters are consistently mild, and this is, for example, central and southern Europe. But, still, not for Russia.

However, in Russia Michelin CrossClimate tires are offered in 32 sizes from 14 to 18 inches. This line will soon expand to include tires designed for crossovers.

Michelin Latitude Sport 3

Created for a wide range of SUVs intended for a narrow circle of people (available as standard equipment for the Porsche Cayenne, Porsche Macan, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLC, updated Mercedes AMG GLE), Michelin tire Latitude Sport 3 has been added to three new sizes (their total will reach 39), and is now available in the range of 17 - 21 inches.

Of course, you have to try to get into the class of prestigious cars. And the Michelin team did their best: they not only managed to reduce the braking distance on wet surfaces by 2.7 meters compared to the previous generation tire (Latitude Sport), but also increased the tire's mileage, its strength and handling. To achieve this, the width of the drainage channels was increased by 10 percent, which increased the traction properties of the tire in the rain, and at the same time delayed the onset of aquaplaning as much as possible, if it happened.

In addition, there is a risk of tire damage, especially when driving on Russian roads, significantly reduces the double casing, which provides the tire with additional strength. Well, the high wear resistance was influenced (and who would doubt it!) by the “innovative composition of the rubber mixture,” which includes silica and a combination of the latest generation elastomers.

We will keep silent about the off-road qualities of rubber for all-terrain vehicles, since we are practically dealing with a road tire that has speed indices from V to Y (240 - 300 km/h) and a profile that can be 35 percent.

Nokian Hakka Green 2

The new summer tire with AA ratings according to the European classification is designed for difficult climatic conditions and offers balanced handling on wet roads, moderate “appetite” and high mileage. According to the manufacturer, the wear resistance of the tire is 15 percent higher than that of its predecessor, the braking distance on wet surfaces from a speed of 80 km/h is almost 18 meters shorter, and fuel economy reaches 0.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

The key element of the new tire is the Nokian Hakka Green Hybrid rubber compound, where silica particles form a dense mesh that adapts to external conditions, increasing grip on wet roads and making driving comfortable. Pine and rapeseed oil added to the rubber compound reduce rolling resistance, and fine soot particles add strength to the tire.

This is the finishing touch, so to speak. The basis of the “picture” is a breaker made of steel wire coated with brass. The wire consists of two intertwined threads with a diameter of 0.25 mm. The design is flexible, but very durable, which, in combination with the Nokian Hakka Green Hybrid rubber compound and a modern asymmetrical tread pattern, provides considerable advantages. In particular, stable handling makes it easy and controlled to change lanes and not be afraid of punctures.

Nokian Tires Coanda technology works against hydroplaning. The Coanda effect is based on the property of flow to change direction depending on the shape of the surface. For Hakka Green 2 it looks like this: a curved part on the tread blocks, reminiscent of a ramp, in the inner shoulder area of the tire directs water from the longitudinal to the transverse grooves. Trumpetgrooves' expanding groove cavities are optimized to accelerate this flow, enhancing traction even on wet roads.

The tire is intended for cars of B and C classes. Speed indices - T (190 km/h) and H (210 km/h). The range of standard sizes includes tires from 13 to 16 inches.

Nokian Nordman SZ

Rapidly changing weather and harsh road conditions are the nature of these tires. Moreover, at high speeds they do not change their qualities - directional stability, stability in control and comfortable ride remain at a high level. The tire has two speed indexes “V” (up to 240 km/h) and “W” (up to 270 km/h) and two tread patterns, respectively. This model is perfect for fans of high-speed driving.

Multilayer tread design with Cool Zone technology provides faster response to steering inputs and precise cornering. Narrow directional grooves effectively remove water from the contact patch, providing good grip on wet roads at any temperature. Silent Groove Design technology ensures a quieter and more comfortable driving experience.

Nokian Nordman SZ tires are available in 13 sizes from 16 to 18 inches. There are: indicators of tread wear, aquaplaning, information area.

Yokohama Bluearth-A AE50

This summer tire is characterized by increased energy efficiency, long service life, excellent handling and high grip properties. The rubber compound now contains even more silica, which helps to better grip wet roads, and orange oil has been added to the tire's composition for greater tensile strength.

The tire design uses a two-layer tread. One layer is rigid, providing strength, the second has increased elasticity and serves to reduce noise, increase grip and ride comfort. For the lower tread layer, the BluEarth-A tire uses rubber with lower heat dissipation. This reduces energy losses and improves comfort.

The special profile increases stability under high loads from powerful sedans and reduces external vehicle noise. Lightning grooves provide confidence on wet roads. The use of large and small grooves of different widths led to an increase in the rigidity of the blocks. This solution ensured safety in rainy weather.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

The third generation of UHP tires (Ultra High Performance, or “extremely high-performance tire”) is quite capable of surpassing the second “Asymmetric” and delighting fans of high speeds.

The outer side of the tires has increased rigidity, ensuring stable behavior in corners; the inner one, together with the central zone, is responsible for smooth running, stability and effective displacement of water from the contact patch. The design, accordingly, is also asymmetrical.

The laconic tread pattern with four longitudinal grooves and thin “strokes” of transverse slots has remained almost unchanged. But now the line of standard sizes starts from 17 inches, and tires with a landing diameter of up to 19 inches, a width from 225 to 275 mm, a profile height of 55–35 percent and speed indices W (270 km/h) and Y (300 km/h).

The manufacturer especially emphasizes the importance of two innovations - Grip Buster (an improved rubber compound with especially “sticky” properties), and Active Braking (tread blocks are designed in such a way that when braking they “spread” over the road surface, increasing the contact area).

All this, of course, costs money, for example, for a tire measuring 225/50 R17 you will have to pay at least 8,000 rubles.

Dunlop SP Sport FM800

But these tires optimally combine excellent characteristics and, what is especially important now, a relatively low cost. When designing the SP Sport FM800, engineers paid special attention (how could it be otherwise!) to grip on wet surfaces and handling at high speeds. At the same time, thanks to the use of the latest technologies, the remaining characteristics of the tire have not deteriorated.

The rubber mixture is fairly saturated with silica and modern polymers. This gives the tires tensile strength at high speeds and allows the tread to adhere tightly to the road surface, increasing the contact patch.

The tread pattern contains four large drainage grooves, which ensures intensive drainage of water from under the wheels of the car.

And additional stability when performing maneuvers is given to the tire by a special design of the shoulder areas, a special breaker design and transverse blocks on the edges of the tread.

Dunlop Sp Sport Maxx 050+

Tire manufacturers, as a rule, begin to sing their own praises without waiting for consumer ratings. What is especially important in summer? Excellent grip properties on wet asphalt, the ability to delay the onset of aquaplaning as much as possible. Well, and, of course, maneuverability, smooth running, efficiency, mileage. Whatever new product you take, there’s all of it in abundance. So Dunlop Sp Sport Maxx 050+ is ready to give all these wonderful qualities.

What provides this tire with “excellent handling on wet roads” and stable control at high speeds? “4D Nano Design” technology, with which you can model and control the characteristics of the compound at the nanoparticle level. Hence the resistance to deformation when the load on the tires sharply increases when cornering; lateral stability; stability of the contact patch shape even at high speed, which, in turn, increases vehicle controllability in difficult road conditions, including rainy weather.

Finally, the tread has an excellent drainage system. All that remains is to check all this in action, and someone has already appreciated the listed advantages. Moreover, in different conditions, because the tire also has an all-terrain version, which can be distinguished by the “SUV” marking.

Dunlop Sp Sport Maxx 050+ is offered in 36 sizes from 16 to 20 inches.

BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2

We say BF Goodrich, but we mean Michelin, which owns a brand known primarily for off-road tires. There are priorities here, and the tread does not have to be asymmetrical or directional, the main thing is that it be as “toothy” as possible.

The new all-season tire BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is just that. In fact, this is another modification of the iconic Ateshka - the most important off-road tire from BFG. Moreover, the improvements affected a number of parameters, except, perhaps, design. They help the updated tires work more efficiently in a wide range of conditions - both summer and winter.

Indeed: the best is the enemy of the good. Therefore, all efforts were devoted, excuse the tautology, to strengthening the sidewall; special dividers were used in the design to prevent dirt from clogging the tread and stones from getting stuck between the blocks. In addition, the relief of the shoulder areas was changed. This is for better grip in ruts.

The composition of the rubber mixture was modernized, as a result of which the mileage on asphalt increased by 15 percent, and on gravel - doubled. In the most modest standard size 215/75 R15 tires can be found for 8 thousand rubles apiece, and respectable 315/70 R17 tires are at least twice as expensive.

BF Goodrich Urban Terrain T/A

With the Urban Terrain T/A model, Michelin breaks the idea that tires from BF Goodrich are mainly intended for specific, or, let’s say cooler, extreme off-road. So, the element of Urban Terrain T/A is, first of all, paved roads (up to 90% of the time). The manufacturer left only 10 percent for various off-road antics (we warn you right away - they are harmless).

This, however, does not negate the increased strength, which is also important for urban conditions, which in Russia are closer to suburban conditions. So, computer optimization of the asymmetrical tread pattern of the Urban Terrain T/A led to more uniform wear, and the increased depth of the drainage grooves led to an increase in tire service life. Wide longitudinal grooves reduce the risk of aquaplaning by quickly and effectively removing water from the contact patch.

Numerous sipes on the surface of the tread blocks provide good traction on snowy roads. The 3PMSF marking (snowflake against the backdrop of a three-peaked mountain) emphasizes the high safety of this all-season model in the snow.

Cordiant Sport 3

The domestic manufacturer has expanded the line of Cordiant Sport 3 tire sizes by adding 12 new ones - from 16 to 18 inches. Seven SUV models are also included here, as this segment remains one of the fastest growing market segments. These tires have a reinforced sidewall.

Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003

Absolutely new for the 2016 season, the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 tire is, as Bridgestone claims, the optimal balance of handling, quick response on dry surfaces, and effective braking on wet roads.

Compared to the earlier model - Potenza Adrenalin RE002 - it reacts even faster and more accurately to steering wheel turns, and demonstrates better stability when driving straight and when cornering. And - without sacrificing comfort, which, in fact, is not so important for the owner of a sports car - the stable behavior of the car in turns and predictability on wet roads seems much more interesting, which is what happened during the tire test at the Dmitrovsky proving ground.

Сontinental SportContact 6

The high-performance Continental SportContact 6 UHP tire is said to be much better suited to high-speed loads than the previous model. To achieve this result, the properties of the rubber compound were optimized and a new tread pattern and tire design were developed. By the way, now it will be produced in 41 standard sizes from 19 to 23 inches.

The Black Chili rubber compound ensures traction over uneven road surfaces, with temporary atomic bonds between the tire and the road enhancing traction, acting like tiny vacuum suction cups at the nanoscale. Hence the predictable behavior of the car when braking, cornering and accelerating, both on dry and wet asphalt.

To achieve perfect handling, support blocks were formed on the surface of the tire. Working on the outer shoulder areas, Continental engineers combined different shaped blocks to create one larger element. Large tread blocks in the outer part are connected to interconnected elements in the second row. This allows the blocks to support each other during fast cornering and ensure optimal transmission of lateral forces.

Since the SportContact 6 is approved for use at speeds up to 350 km/h, it must, in addition to the qualities listed above, be designed to withstand enormous loads. The innovative material Aralon 350, specially developed for SportContact 6, helps cope with them. It is a synthetic fiber in which two threads of reinforced aramid are intertwined with one thread of elastic nylon. This fiber in the rubber compound is placed under the tread in a seamless belt layer, stabilizing the tire contour and ensuring safety even at speeds up to 350 km/h.

As a result of all these measures, steering accuracy was increased by 14 percent, and handling on dry road surfaces was increased by 11 percent. Grip levels on the race track have increased by 4 percent, and General characteristics The tire's grip on wet road surfaces is 2 percent higher than the maximum grip level of the previous model. In addition, service life and comfort levels have increased by 7 percent.

Shall we change our shoes?

The warmer atmosphere and the almost disappeared snow already clearly hint that it is time to change the tires. Yes, in the morning there is still a thin layer of ice on the asphalt, but this does not change the situation: you need to change your shoes.

Temporary tire shops will appear again, but here’s some advice: it’s better, after all, to use the services of well-known tire centers in the city, or, at worst, small services with a reputation, where well-trained people work, professional equipment is installed and nothing is done by eye. . You will pay a little more, but you will drive calmly, because the wheel, and this must always be remembered, is the most important element of car safety.

In conclusion - some advice from Matti Morri, head of the department technical support clients of Nokian Tires, known in the company as “Mr. Tire”:

In summer tires, the pressure should be kept 0.2 bar lower than in winter tires, this will improve traction, since summer tires are stiffer;
- be sure to monitor the difference in the tread depth of the front and rear tires - it should not exceed 2 millimeters, otherwise problems with handling may arise;
- if a hernia has formed on the tire, change the wheel immediately: swelling indicates damage to the cord, that is, the tire can go off at any moment, and keep in mind that repairing the sidewall is impossible in principle;
- trust in all season tires it’s not worth it - these tires are developed for mild climates, and in Russia the difference between winter and summer is very noticeable, so there should be separate tires for winter and summer;
- check the tire pressure at least once every three weeks - according to statistics, wrong pressure in tires increases the risk of getting into an accident by 13.3 percent;
- at residual depth 1.6 mm tread summer tires need to be changed (such wear leads to aquaplaning already from a speed of 56 km/h);
- remember: wet roads and worn tires are a dangerous combination.

BFGOODRICH ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2

Michelin presents a universal summer tire for SUVs, ready for testing on both asphalt and off-road conditions. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is the successor to the model that launched the off-road tire line in the 1970s. The tire is developed using technologies tested in the most difficult competitions, including the famous Dakar rally raid. Compared to the previous BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO model, the new product has 20% increased sidewall strength. This was facilitated by the use of special CoreGard technology, previously used in sports tires and providing a thickening of the rubber compound in the sidewall walls by 4.5 mm. Massive blocks located in the shoulder area and extending to the sidewall provide protection for the most vulnerable areas. The new composition of the rubber mixture contributes (in comparison with the previous model) to a twofold increase in mileage on gravel and 15 percent on asphalt. The variable pitch of the shoulder blocks provides improved (by 10%) cross-country ability on soft ground and in deep snow, as well as better maneuverability. For the 2016 season, the tire line was expanded with new sizes from 15 to 18 bore diameter. Also in the new product, 7 standard sizes will be available, previously unavailable in this category of tires.

BFGOODRICH URBAN-TERRAIN T/A

This tire for small and medium SUVs is another new product from Michelin, whose engineers have developed a model with the characteristics necessary for use on both asphalt and light off-road conditions. The aggressive tread pattern provides high grip properties, and wide drainage channels contribute to the effective removal of water from the contact patch. The tire has a frame reinforced by 20% (compared to the BFGoodrich G-Grip model). In addition, the increased tread depth ensures a high level of wear resistance. By the 2016 season, the BFGoodrich Urban-Terrain T/A tire will be available in 18 sizes from 15 to 18 bore diameter.

BRIDGESTONE POTENZA ADRENALIN RE003

Bridgestone's engineering focus for this tire, which is positioned in the Premium/Premium Standard segment of the performance tire category, was on wet braking and handling, dry handling and a distinctive sporty tread design. Distinctive points (in relation to the POTENZA Adrenalin RE002 model) are a new silica-based base layer, which improves handling on dry and wet surfaces, a block shape with rounded edges, which promotes uniform pressure distribution in the contact patch, an optimized carcass structure, which reduces the weight of the tire while maintaining strength and providing a more predictable and smooth tire response to steering. As a result of the introduced innovations, the tire's stability in the turning arc, resistance to aquaplaning, and accuracy of vehicle control have improved. Braking performance on wet surfaces has also improved.

CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT 6

New sports tire in the Premium segment. To further improve performance, Continental engineers have developed a new rubber compound, Black Chili, one of the innovations of which is the interaction at the nano level of the rubber compound of the tire and the road surface - a factor that significantly improves the tire's grip on the road. The tread design uses solutions that ensure optimal distribution of forces during maneuvering, which contributes to particularly precise control. The new SportContact 6 is approved for speeds up to 350 km/h, which not only speaks volumes about its performance characteristics, but also its ability to withstand high centrifugal loads. All this was made possible thanks to the use of an innovative tire design and the use of the new material Aralon 350 - a synthetic fiber specially developed for SportContact 6, in which aramid threads are intertwined with elastic nylon threads. The result of the introduced innovations was an increase in steering precision by 14%, dry handling by 11%, and the level of grip when driving on a race track increased by 4%. Also, compared to the previous model, wet grip performance has increased by 2%, while service life and comfort levels have increased by 7%. The SportContact 6 tire is available in 41 sizes for wheels with diameters from 19 to 23 inches.

CORDIANT SPORT 3

The hallmark of this tire is a number of key technologies. Dry-Cor technology prevents the tire from slipping and deforming in turns, providing a stable contact patch and preventing skidding and drift in corners. Wet-Cor technology features improved drainage system, which ensures effective removal of water from the tire contact patch with the road and reduces the risk of aquaplaning. The new Speed-Cor design has improved steering precision and sensitivity due to better pressure distribution in the contact patch. The new Sport-Mix tread compound increases the tire's shock absorption on uneven road surfaces. In 2016, the Cordiant Sport 3 line was expanded to 12 sizes for wheels with a diameter of 16 to 18 inches, including 7 reinforced models for SUV cars.

DUNLOP SP SPORT MAXX 050+

Safe driving on wet surfaces is ensured by a new rubber compound with a higher content of silicon dioxide (silica), which makes the material more elastic. For stability at high speeds, the tire design uses a high-strength breaker - a special tape made of nylon-aramid fiber. Variable tread stiffness allows you to redistribute the load in the contact patch between the central and shoulder areas of the tire, and wide blocks and a central rib provide optimal contact with the road surface. For passenger cars, the high-speed tire SP Sport Maxx 050+ is available in 36 sizes with seat diameters from 15 to 20 inches. In the SP Sport Maxx 050+ model, intended for SUVs, a more durable material is used for the cord frame, which increases the rigidity of the tire structure as a whole. TractiveGroove micro lugs provide improved traction and flotation in both deep mud and snow. At the same time, the model has a special rubber compound composition, which not only improves the resistance of the tread blocks to destruction, but also guarantees the ability of the tire to operate all year round, which is confirmed by the presence of the Mountain Snowflake Symbol marking.

HANKOOK VENTUS S1 EVO2 (K117)

Hankook's flagship Ultra High Performance tyre, developed using DTM racing tire technology, offers balanced performance characteristics on wet and dry roads. Multi-radius tread technology provides high aquaplaning resistance and optimal traction. An innovative three-layer tread block design (also inspired by DTM racing) with intelligent outer rib blocks increases the tire's contact patch as it wears. Ventus S1 evo2 is manufactured using the latest generation of rubber compounds with optimized cross-linking of atoms, which helps improve wear characteristics and resistance to thermal aging. The new formula of polymer nanocomponents (styrene) is responsible for the tire’s high performance on wet roads and reduces rolling resistance. Special recesses in the shoulder area of the tread create turbulent micro-flows of air while driving. Cooling fins in the drainage grooves also improve heat transfer during rolling.

HANKOOK VENTUS V 12 EVO2 (K 120)

In addition to a significant improvement in all operational parameters, one of the key factors when creating this tire was to improve environmental performance. The 3D blocks have a directional design that has been designed for improved water drainage. The multi-radius tread, created using “racing” technology, in combination with an exceptionally stiff, but extremely light steel cord, provides an optimal shape of the tire contact patch with the road under extreme loads.

Thanks to the use of silicon oxide nanoparticles in the tread, combined with optimization of block stiffness across the entire tread width, braking distances on wet and dry surfaces have been reduced by 5% compared to the previous model. The use of styrene polymers in the rubber compound provides improved performance on wet surfaces with reduced rolling resistance, which contributes to improved efficiency. A cooling system with additional ribs mounted at the base of the tread grooves ensures rapid heat dissipation for improved handling characteristics and increased tire wear resistance. To enhance comfort, the Ventus V 12 evo2 is equipped with an aerodynamic profile that reduces noise and emphasizes the tire's sporty design.

MICHELIN CROSSCLIMATE

New for the 2016 season for passenger cars. Thanks to a set of the most modern technical solutions (for example, the use of an innovative rubber compound), the tire provides reliable grip on dry and wet surfaces, as well as stability in conditions of sudden snowfall. The V-shaped CrossClimate tread pattern has a directional structure with a large number of sectors separated by wide drainage channels. Each sector has a special shape that changes its angle, which allows the edges of the blocks to work effectively both during acceleration and when performing maneuvers on snowy surfaces. At the same time, the other side of the block has smoothed edges, which ensures a stable tire contact area with the road. The sipes located in the shoulder area expand towards the base, which, as the tread wears, allows you to maintain the ability to effectively drain water. The lamellas located in the central part have a Z-shaped profile directed inside the block.
