The parcel took quite a long time (a little over a month), and the postmarks show that the seller packed the parcel in the evening of the same day when the order was placed.

A surprise awaited you as soon as you opened the envelope: each lamp was individually packaged.


The lamps are two strings of COB LEDs protected by a transparent cap made of real glass. This is not a sealed flask with a special gas filling (which would be better), but for such a price this is good.

The protective cap is held on by a couple of drops of glue on the side where the cap touches the board. Time will tell how reliable this connection is.

The second good news was that the lamp already has an LED driver installed (either a current stabilizer or a power stabilizer - as you like). You could have guessed this from the seller’s picture, but I didn’t pay attention to it that time (I was planning to install my own driver anyway).

When tested at different voltages, the lamp always consumed the same power - about 1.4 W (with plus/minus, about which a little later)


If it’s hard to see in the photo - at a voltage of 7.24V (by the way, this is the lower threshold for switching on the current stabilizer - below that the stabilizer stops working and the brightness of the LEDs begins to decrease) the current is 188 mA (1.36W), at a voltage of 12V the current is 116mA (1.39W), 14.3V – 100mA (1.43W), 20V-81mA (1.62W). The increase in power consumption, in my opinion, is caused by a “trick” for the car’s CAN bus - installed resistances at the lamp input.

But the most pleasant news awaited me later: when the lamp heats up, the current consumption decreases by several milliamps. Have Chinese engineers finally thought of thermal stabilization? And all this for just over $1?

Now about the glow itself: the lamp shines at the level of a standard w5w lamp. White color (which is important - without a bluish tint) seems a little brighter, yellow - a little duller (the color resembles a regular incandescent lamp). I read somewhere that this is a subjective assessment: we are accustomed to the fact that the white color corresponds to a hotter filament and seems brighter to us. I don’t have a device to accurately measure the luminous flux, and is it really necessary for such lamps? A subjective assessment is enough - they shine no worse than usual, while consuming several times less energy (1.4W versus 5W).
I think I've finally found my lamps. Well, it will be possible to say about their working time only after the passage of time. They passed the 6-hour test on the power supply successfully, but I’ll try to write later how they behave over time in the car.

Briefly about the pros and cons:

+ presence of a diode bridge at the input (you can turn it on without thinking about polarity)
+ thermal stabilization (bold plus)
+ the seller does not delay with shipping.

W5W LED lamps represent a separate group of lighting devices, which is intended for installation in a car (headlights, interior, etc.). These are compact light sources that are characterized by very high radiation intensity and are not overly complex in design. Their scope of application is quite wide, however, the main direction of use can be identified - tuning of various vehicles.

Operating principle and features of use

Such light bulbs are used in various components of automobiles and motorcycles. Their main task is to modernize the existing lighting system, increase its functionality, and, accordingly, efficiency. W5W sources can be installed in the passenger compartment, trunk, and are used to illuminate license plates and side panels.

But more often they are used when organizing the side lighting of a vehicle, in rear and cornering headlights.

W5W light bulbs also have another name - baseless, which is explained by the design features. So, unlike the usual modifications of LED light sources with a standard holder, the versions in question are equipped with a plastic two-pin T10 type connector.

Depending on the design, the configuration of the light source itself may change (the number of diodes, their location). There are models with circular and longitudinal installation of emitters.

The operating principle of any LED lamp is based on the conversion of electrical energy into the equivalent of light. This process is realized by passing current through a semiconductor p-n junction.

Low-power lighting elements usually use a resistor, which acts as a limiter, but does not help stabilize the operation.

The quality of operation of such light sources directly depends on their design. The longest-lasting versions are those with a current stabilizer, which ensures more stable operation of the lamp, eliminating increased heating.

Characteristics of W5W light sources

Diode lamps with T10 holder differ in several main parameters:

  1. Power. The range is represented by models with different load levels, but almost all of them are characterized by low power consumption (no more than 10 W).
  2. The supply voltage can vary from 9 to 24 V.
  3. The number and type of emitters is determined by the design. Both parameters affect the quality of light.
  4. Light flow. The more diodes are provided, as well as the more powerful each of them, the more intense the radiation will be.
  5. Holder type – T10 (regardless of the light bulb version).
  6. Dimensions.
  7. The shape of the light source is determined by the number of diodes. For example, there are the simplest models with one emitter; they are equipped with a transparent diffuser and externally resemble an incandescent lamp of this type. And there are also more powerful versions in which the diodes are installed in a longitudinal or ring manner.
  8. Lighting color depends on the intended purpose of the light source. Functional lighting is organized using single-color light bulbs with a white glow, and T10 decorative lighting elements are presented in a wide selection of shades (green, red, orange, etc.).

The set of technical characteristics determines the level of efficiency of the lamp, and therefore will affect the cost of the product. The simplest designs are offered at the most affordable prices.

For example, a W5W light bulb model with a T10 holder, equipped with just one low-power diode, can cost several tens of rubles, while the most functional versions are offered many times more expensive.

Main pros and cons

W5W T10 type bulbs have many advantages:

  • high work intensity due to the use of diode emitters in the design;
  • efficiency, due to the minimum power level (several watts);
  • long-term operation, much longer than all existing analogues;
  • minimal energy consumption reduces the load on the car battery;
  • a large selection of designs that differ in basic parameters, as well as in the shade of lighting;
  • increased strength characteristics, which makes T10 light bulbs resistant to mechanical damage and vibrations.

Such lighting elements have significantly fewer disadvantages. The most significant of them:

  1. Quite a high cost, which is offset by long-term operation, since the light source will quickly pay for itself, especially if the car lighting works regularly and for a long time.
  2. Some models use a current limiter (resistor) instead of the required stabilizer (driver).

As you can see, T10 LED lamps are gradually conquering the market, despite the relatively high cost.

Selection options

The main task of the vehicle owner is to determine the node where the light source needs to be installed. Based on this, the desired design is selected, because W5W light bulbs are available in a wide range of design options. Next, the required intensity of the light flux is determined, which will be affected by the intended purpose of the light source.

This parameter also depends on the power of the diodes, their type and quantity. Then a model with a suitable shade of lighting is selected.

The holder type for W5W bulbs is always the same - T10. We must not forget about the brand of the product, since the duration of operation may depend on this. This state of affairs is explained by the degradation of the crystal, which means that the intensity of the light flux, after a certain period of time, will be lower.

Thus, when choosing an LED light source, you need to simultaneously take into account a number of parameters (almost all the main ones indicated by the manufacturer). Not all light bulbs of this type are offered at a high price. However, you should not pay attention to the cheapest versions, since in this case there is a risk of purchasing low-quality crystals.     The bulbs were ordered on July 2 and arrived at the post office on July 16. Despite the promotional price and free delivery, the tracking number was tracked throughout the entire journey.

    Let's take a closer look at what this light bulb is.


    And it represents the following: a case with a diameter of 11.5 mm and a length of 37.4 mm.




    There are 8 LEDs on the four sides of the case, two on each of the four cardinal directions, and two LEDs on the front end, under the convex lens, 10 in total.






    Also on the body are fins similar to radiators, although they are very small, so they serve more of a decorative function than improve cooling.


    On the light bulb connector, in the middle, between the contacts, there are 10 SMD resistors of size 0805, with a nominal value of 1.3 kOhm, 5 pieces on each side.


    The textolite with contacts and resistors fits into the lower end of the light bulb body and is covered with a rubber plug.


    Having pulled it out, we will contemplate two more resistors, but this time 1812, on one side 51 Ohms, on the other 27 Ohms.




    You can also see that in the depths of the case, a board with base contacts and resistors is soldered to the board from which the LEDs are already soldered.

    It's time to connect the LEDs to power and see if the declared power corresponds to the real one.




    So, the voltage is 12.1 volts (which is even lower than the voltage of a charged battery), the current consumption... an exciting moment for those who made bets... so the current consumption is 0.16 A, which already corresponds to a power of 1.9 W.


    Let's raise the voltage to 14 volts, and what do we see, but we see a current of 0.2 A, and accordingly a power of 2.8 W.


    Let's be realistic, in a car with a working battery and a normally working generator, the voltage will always be more than 12 volts. So we can say that the light bulbs not only correspond, but are also more powerful than stated (or is it wrong to say that?).

    But not everything is so smooth. Just 40 seconds after turning on, the temperature of the light bulb rose to 50 degrees, and the temperature of the resistors to 85. The glowing LED may introduce an error in the measurement with an infrared thermometer, then the temperature is really high, since holding your finger on the surface of the light bulb for a long time is already very, very difficult comfortable, but with resistors it’s not possible at all.

    Well, in conclusion, let’s compare the brightness with a regular double-spiral car lamp, the filament power of which corresponds to 21W and 5W. All photographs were taken with exactly the same parameters, in the camera’s manual mode.


    From top to bottom: Spiral at 21W, Spiral at 5W, LED lamp at a voltage of 14 volts. As we can see from the photographs, although the power of the LED lamp corresponds to the declared one, the brightness cannot be compared even with a 5W incandescent lamp. You can draw your own conclusions.

    In this article we will review the W5W(T10) LED lamps, compare their characteristics, and note their features.

    W5W(T10) lamps (“baseless”) are usually installed in the side lights of cars, motorcycles, and ATVs. These lamps are also used in interior lighting, license plate lighting, and reverse lighting. It is worth noting that W5W LED lamps are absolutely interchangeable with W16W(T15), therefore, in fact, their use in a car lighting system is limitless.

    Let's start our review with one of the smallest lamps - W5W-1. Externally, this model is similar to a conventional incandescent light bulb and has identical dimensions. A special feature of this model is its focused light output. As you can see in the photo, this lamp is not so bright, but the power it consumes is so small that even with the lighting constantly on, the load on the battery will be minimal.

    The next model under consideration is the W5W-1SMD. The luminous part of this lamp is represented by one SMD LED. The light shines more diffusely compared to the previous model. Due to its very compact dimensions, it can be used in places of limited size. Very low energy consumption is also a feature of this lamp.

    W5W-1SMD2076 is generally similar in LED location and design to W5W-1SMD. But the SMD2076 LED itself is much brighter and is represented by 6 light source chips. In terms of brightness, the W5W-1SMD2076 is similar to a conventional 5-watt incandescent lamp, but is much more compact in size of the luminous part. This model can be recommended if you are satisfied with the brightness of standard lamps, but there are size restrictions.

    The luminous part of the W5W-4SMD lamp is a board on which there are 4 SMD LEDs on one side and resistors on the other. Due to this design, it was possible to achieve only a side glow, which is very important in cases where it is necessary to obtain a directional and specifically lateral light flow. This is especially true for interior lighting, because... Usually the base in the lampshade is located in a different plane, which does not allow the brightness of a conventional incandescent lamp to be fully used.

    Lamp W5W-5SMD. Has all the advantages of previous models. The lamp is compact, has a brightness of 75 lum, which is brighter, although not significantly, than a regular 5 W lamp. Unlike the previously discussed models, it has a volumetric glow that immediately catches the eye. A good choice if you need an inexpensive, energy-efficient, but at the same time not dim light source.

    The W5W-1.5H lamp has a light dispersion angle of 180 degrees. and 75 lum brightness coming from a 1.5 W HP LED. As you can see in the photo and video, the model is quite bright. It is also worth noting that a feature of this type of LEDs is that they are more resistant to elevated temperatures and humidity. Therefore, this type of lamp is more preferable if a unit with halogen or xenon lamps, which are characterized by high heating during operation, is installed nearby.

    The next model - W5W-1.5H L - is an analogue of the W5W-1.5H, differing only in the presence of a diverging lens. The characteristics of the lamps are similar, but the model with a lens has a more diffused glow, which is often lacking, especially if the design of the headlight is such that the base is slightly recessed. In this case, most of the light flux will not reach the reflector and will not be amplified. This model excludes this. It is also worth noting, although this is not so important when choosing a light source, externally this model has a very nice design, and if the headlight glass or the canopy of your car is completely transparent, this lamp will look great.

    W5W-1H4SMD. In this model, 2 types of diodes act as light sources - HP and SMD. A powerful HP LED located at the end allows you to achieve a fairly bright glow from the front. Four SMD diodes located on the sides complement it and allow you to achieve a volumetric glow. But due to the higher total brightness, compared to a standard lamp, the effect is more significant.

    W5W-1H+1.5H. This model is one of the most successful, it combines three very important components - compactness, brightness and volumetric glow. Containing HP LEDs and protected by a metal cap, this lamp is resistant to high temperatures. Well, due to its compact size, you will be able to achieve a significant increase in brightness in those places where lamps with more massive dimensions, and therefore brighter ones, cannot be installed.

    W5W-3H. This model is distinguished by its miniature size; the luminous part is represented by three HP diodes and is protected by a metal cap. In general, in terms of direction, light intensity, design, this model is similar to the W5W-1.5H, but differs in a much brighter glow.

    W5W-1H8SMD. Similar in design to W5W-1H4SMD, it has additional 4 SMD LEDs on the sides. A good choice if the goal is to achieve a more voluminous and brighter glow.

    W5W-13SMD. Lamp based on SMD diodes. The emphasis is on significantly increasing the illumination of the side surfaces. In general, the effect of this lamp is as follows - a much more voluminous, rich glow.

    W5W-68SMD. The brightest lamp based on SMD diodes. The glow is many times more intense compared to a standard lamp. 68 LEDs located on the sides and front allow for a more uniform light output.

    W5W-5H1.5 L. Before the appearance of this model, the brightest W5W lamp for a long time remained the W5W-68SMD, and the developers were unable to achieve a significant increase in light flux without maintaining dimensions that would allow the diode lamp to be absolutely interchangeable with the standard one. But, finally, it happened, and just recently the W5W (W16W) -4H1.5 L (-5H1.5 L) model was released, which allows you to increase the brightness compared to a standard incandescent lamp by as much as 15 times! Previously, especially if this type of base is used in a reversing light, one could only dream of such a significant increase while maintaining the normal energy consumption. Now it's possible! This lamp produces a luminous flux of 750 lumens. The front LED, “reinforced” by the lens, produces a directional light flux, and the compact dimensions of the lamp can significantly increase the scope of their application.
