Tire calculator. Conversion of the size of tires Determine the outer diameter of the tire

During the selection of new wheels for a car, the question often arises, and not whether to put wheels more or less, or in order to improve the appearance of a car or to reduce the cost of buying tires and wheels. But the most important question arises, whether the wheels are suitable for my car and how its characteristics will change. You can understand whether the wheels fit on the gas tank lid or the side stand of the car (photo 1). Or find in our directory the applicability of disks to a car, your car and see the tires recommended by the factory. But it often happens that you can supply other tires that are not officially approved by the factory.

In this case, the main thing is to understand how the speedometer readings will change, i.e. the speed of the car, as the outer radius of the wheel will change. Clearance (ground clearance) will also change. It is not recommended to go beyond the values of the factory tires by more than 2-3%. Vehicle handling and behavior, gas mileage and actual vehicle speed may change.

Tire calculator - size comparison

Our tire calculator will show you the visual difference in diameter, profile, radius, ground clearance and width. Dotted lines indicate size differences. In the upper part, you can see a visual representation of the old tire (original size), and in the lower part, the new tire is visualized. Just as you can see, the tire can be seen in side and front projection. You can copy the URL of the page and show it to other people and they will see the same comparison as you see it.

But how to understand all these values and the difference in%? For this, we have created a tire calculator, it will help you understand the change in all the necessary characteristics and show the difference in% between the old and the new tire, and even visually display how the wheel of the old and new size will look like. You just need to enter the tire width, profile and wheel radius. Usually they are displayed in this form - 195 \ 65 R15 (photo 2).

How to use the online tire calculator?

Using our online tire calculator is very easy. In the upper left corner of the site, there are fields for choosing the tire size. In the top row, you need to indicate the dimension of your original factory tire (or tires that are currently installed on your car). These values are written on the tire profile (sidewall). In the first list, you need to select the tire width - it is indicated in millimeters. The second list is the percentage of the section height to the tire width. The third list is the diameter of the disc in inches (commonly referred to as the radius).

In the bottom row, you need to indicate the size of the new tires. Tires that you are going to install on a car or have already bought. Then click "Calculate". Our tire calculator will calculate the differences between the old and new tires and display them in a table and in a picture. Namely: diameter, width, circumference, tire profile height, the number of revolutions per kilometer and the change in the car's clearance. The first columns of the table will show the parameters for old and new tires, in the next columns the difference in mm and the percentage difference between them.

There is a speedometer at the bottom of the tire calculator for visually comparing the speed of the old and new tires. Under the speedometer, you can increase and decrease the speed and see the change in the speed difference between the old and new tires.

Be careful!

Be careful on the road and follow the manufacturer's recommendations. The reverse side of the installation of non-standard tire sizes, this is the risk of losing insurance in case of an accident, not passing the state technical inspection of the car, since the setting of tires not approved by the factory is considered a change in the design of the vehicle.

In the first and second columns, the standard sizes of tires and disks are set. In the remaining columns, the dimensions you want to install. The calculator will help you determine tolerances and alternative selection options.

The tire calculator allows you to compare the dimensions of different tire sizes. For example, choose wider tires, but keep the outer diameter of the wheel the same, or find out how much the vehicle's ground clearance will change if tires of a different profile are installed.

To select an alternative standard size in one half of the calculator, you need to indicate the standard or existing standard size of the tire, in the adjacent half - the desired or alternative.

The calculator displays the recommended rim width for a given tire size, as well as the outer diameter and width of the wheel. The most important parameter is the outer diameter of the wheel. You should pay the greatest attention to its change.

The second important parameter is the actual tire profile height. It is usually expressed as a percentage of the width: for example, 205/55 R16, where 55 is 55% of the tire width. That is, 205 * 55/100 = 112.75 mm is the real height of the profile of this tire.

Diversified tires, which are standardly installed on a car, have different profile heights in percent, but the same in millimeters. For example, tires with dimensions 275/40 R20 and 315/35 R20 have a profile height of 110 and 110.25 mm, respectively.

Some features of the selection of tires:

  • The wider the tires, the better the handling, but the less aquaplaning resistance and the more rutting is felt, and the comfort decreases - the low-profile tires are stiffer.
  • The lower the profile is the heavier wheel. This is due to the fact that the disc is heavier than rubber, the mass of the wheel increases and this deteriorates the suspension performance. In addition, the mass of metal is distributed closer to the outer edge of the wheel and increases the moment of inertia (this is not essential for cars with a powerful engine).
  • With an increase in the profile, the car becomes more roll, less responsive to control, but bumps are easier to overcome, tires are less sensitive to sharp edges of pits, and comfort becomes better.
  • A significant change in the outer diameter of the wheel leads to a distortion of the readings of the vehicle's instruments, in particular, the mileage and speed.

Correct selection of tires and wheels for the car

As the wise proverb says, "measure seven times and cut once." Therefore, having decided to replace the tires and disks on your car, first select the dimension that is suitable specifically for your car. And the best for these purposes is a tire selection calculator - an online service for car owners, created just to simplify and speed up the selection of tires and wheels.

Since everyone who has decided to abandon standard-sized wheels faces a similar task, and not everyone knows how to choose the right tire size, the tire disk calculator has taken its well-deserved place in the list of useful services for car owners on our website. Use the tire and rim size calculator to help you make the right choice.

Online tire and wheel calculator

The offered tire and wheel calculator has obvious advantages that its users have appreciated in practice, many of them believe that this is the best tire calculator on the Russian Internet.

Visibility of calculations

The visual tire and wheel calculator contains a schematic image of a car wheel, which immediately displays the values indicated in the calculator, which allows you to visually see changes in the dimensions of a wheel when changing its parameters.

Car tire calculator will quickly select possible sizes

Online tire calculator allows you to select tires by size for any passenger car in a few clicks. Fast and convenient calculator for the selection of tuning wheels for non-standard tire sizes. In a matter of minutes, you can determine the maximum or optimal dimensions of the disc radius, its offset, as well as the width and height of the tire profile.

You can find tires for almost any car

First of all, the service is conceived as a calculator for the selection of tires and wheels for passenger cars, however, the ability to perform calculations for wheels with a rim diameter of up to 20 inches allows, in appropriate cases, to use this online program for those who need a calculator for truck tires (tire calculator for trucks tires).

Selection of disks by tire size and selection of tires by wheel parameters

The online tire and rim selection program allows you to select rims to tires, and determine the appropriate tire size for your car.

Wheel tire calculator works online

The online tire calculator does not need to be downloaded and installed, the service is always available online. The convenience of the online service lies in the fact that it allows you to use the possibilities of selecting tires and rims in real time and without registration. The bus calculator can be accessed from any device with an Internet connection.

How to use tire disk calculator

The Visual Tire Calculator offers a comparison of different tire sizes. The calculator is very easy to use. As you can see, the shino disk calculator is divided into two parts. The upper area of the calculator includes fields for selecting tire and rim parameters, as well as a graphical representation of the wheel, where changes are displayed on the fly as soon as all dimensions are determined. And the lower area, which offers a full table of wheel sizes of different diameters with tires of different widths and profiles, which would suit your given dimension as recommended by your car manufacturer. The presented size table of possible tires and wheels allows you to quickly obtain information on the dimensions suitable for the car.

The main problem that the tire-disk calculator solves is that it allows you to choose the "cheap" tire size. For those who are not in the know, there are expensive tire sizes and cheap, but cheap ones, not because the tires are bad or a ten-year production date, but because the sizes are not popular with manufacturers, although the changes from the manufacturer's recommended size will be very minor. Using the readings of the calculator, you can quickly determine the most inexpensive tire dimension for your car, after which it will be easier to determine the manufacturer.

If with summer tires inexpensive options can be found in any dimension, since the pattern has not been identified, then with regard to winter tires everything is more or less obvious. If you add 5% of the profile height from the original size to the tire size recommended by the manufacturer of your car. At one and the same manufacturer of car tires, the difference in the selling price can be up to 30%. The calculation formula is simple, the higher the profile of the wheel (within reasonable limits), the cheaper it can cost.

A virtual tire calculator for rims and tires will help you make the right choice!

The users of the service do not need to make complex independent calculations of the difference in the permissible tire sizes and displacement disks, the disco-tire calculator provides a detailed comparison table between the recommended size and the desired one, being guided by which you can easily make your choice.

In addition to the visual tire calculator, our website contains other online services useful for car owners.

You may need such a calculator if you want to install, instead of standard tires or disks, their analogs, but of a different standard size. With its help, you can visually represent dimensional changes and only then interpret them for a specific car. At the same time, the calculator is not a tool for selecting tires and wheels, since it does not contain a database of manufacturers.

When replacing disks and tires, taking into account the geometric data obtained from tire calculator, it will not be superfluous to make several measurements yourself. First, the distance from the suspension to the inner surface of the wheel, and also from the shock absorber cup to the tread surface. Secondly, from the wing, as well as the steering rods to the tread surface. At the same time, the geometric parameters of the new wheel assembly should not greatly exceed the size of standard tires and disks. Otherwise, unstable behavior of the vehicle may occur.

A few basic rules to remember when changing tires and wheels.

  1. The tread of summer tires has a standard depth of 0.8-1 cm;
  2. When installing discs with a larger diameter than the standard ones, it is necessary to reduce the overhang value - for every inch of the height of 3 mm overhang;
  3. It is not uncommon for the hub bores on discs that are not original to have a larger diameter. Therefore, when installing them, you need to use special rings for fixing;
  4. In the event that the hole on the disc is smaller than the hub mounts, it is strictly forbidden to drill them out, as well as grind the hub itself;
  5. Correct selection of non-original disks using a calculator will allow you to preserve the driving characteristics of the car;
  6. If you are not sure about the compatibility of tires or wheels with your car, it is better not to install, or contact specialists for help.

Some car owners eventually decide to supply discs with a larger diameter than originally envisaged at the factory. On the one hand, the car is being transformed, but behind the aesthetic beauty there is a technical error in the speedometer readings, which many either do not know about, or simply do not take it into account. This is, of course, everyone's choice, but you must admit that an unpleasant situation may arise when you drive your car, adhere to the speed limit, and the traffic police inspector who stopped you claims that you were driving with excess. Whom to believe, inspector or speedometer? Let's figure it out ...

The situation here can be twofold. If the installed standard size of tires and rims corresponds to the factory standards (approved by the manufacturer), then there should be no problems with the speedometer readings (if, of course, it is serviceable). But if the dimensions differ from those recommended by the manufacturer, then the inspector may be right.

Ideally, after installing non-standard tires or wheels, or both, on the car at the same time, you need to calibrate the speedometer. By default, manufacturers calibrate speedometers for those standard sizes that are indicated on the car body in the doorway from the driver's side, but if the sizes differ, then the speedometer begins to show not entirely reliable data.

The other day I came across a very interesting little program. The calculator of the error of the speedometer when changing tires and disks is an auxiliary tool for making the correct replacement of the disks and tires installed on the car. If you want to change the tire sizes or put wheels of a different radius, this program will help you find out how the external indicators will change, calculate the speedometer error, and show the changes in the vehicle's ground clearance (clearance).

Attention! Manufacturers and many car services do not recommend installing wide tires on the car during the winter season - this is due to the deterioration of the car's braking qualities.

Another useful tool is a rim width calculator. when changing the tire parameters, it is very important to check the compatibility of the wheel width of the vehicle mounted on the vehicle. In the worst case, you simply will not be able to pull the rubber onto the rim. This small calculator will help you calculate the minimum and maximum wheel widths suitable for the selected tire size.

Perhaps, for today this is all that I wanted to show and tell you.
