Ford Focus II sedan. All owner reviews about Ford Focus II restyling Market offer

The Ford Focus 2 was first presented in September 2004 at the Paris Motor Show. On Russian plant concern in Vsevolozhsk (a suburb of St. Petersburg), cars of this model began to be robbed in the summer of 2005. In 2007, the car was deeply restyled, the interior was changed and appearance.

For the Russian market, Ford Focus II cars are equipped with the following engines: 1.4 l R416V (80 hp); 1.6 l R416V (100 hp); 1.6 l R416V DuratecTi-VCT with variable valve timing (115 hp); 1.8 l R416V Duratec-HE (125 hp); 2.0 l R4 16V (145 hp) and Duratorq 1.8 l R416V turbodiesel (115 hp). This book describes gasoline modifications used engines.

Installed on cars mechanical boxes transmissions (five-speed mod. IB5 or MTX75, six-speed mod. MMT6) or four-speed automatic (only for cars with engines with a displacement of 1.6 and 2.0 liters).

Ford Focus 2 cars are available in five- or three-door hatchback, sedan and station wagon body styles. In Russia, the car is offered in four basic trim levels:

Ambiente (driver airbag, pyrotechnic front seat belt pretensioners with tension limiters, electric front windows, central locking and immobilizer, steering column adjustable for reach and angle, heater with air recirculation mode);

Comfort (in addition to the Ambiente equipment, air conditioning, aluminum trim on the interior door handles, side moldings and exterior door handles painted in body color, and a chrome radiator grille trim are installed);

Trend (in addition to the Comfort equipment, dark headlight rims, fog lights, an on-board computer are installed, and the interior is improved);

Ghia (compared to the Trend configuration, the interior is additionally trimmed with aluminum and leather, the central locking is equipped remote control, and the glove box is individually cooled, electric windows are installed on all doors, a full set of airbags, including side ones; additional interior lighting for rear passengers, a delay system for turning off headlights when exiting the car, electric side mirrors with electric heating, improved interior, etc.).

By special order, the vehicle can be equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic system brake force distribution (EBD), dynamic stabilization system (ESP), separate climate control, xenon headlights, parking sensors, audio system with a multifunctional touch display (there are 6 audio system options to choose from), alloy wheels (three options), it is possible to install voice control for a mobile phone.

Cars for the Russian market are equipped with engine and sill protection, mud flaps on all wheels and a full-size spare wheel.

In Russia they also offer a sports version of the Focus ST (hatchback only) with a forced 2.5 liter R5 20V engine equipped with turbocharging (225 hp, 320 Nm) and a six-speed manual transmission. In addition, this modification features 18-inch alloy wheels, metallic interior trim and a sports suspension.

The bodies of all modifications of Ford Focus II cars are load-bearing, all-metal, welded construction with hinged front fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid (tailgate). The windshield and rear windows (tailgate glass) are glued in. The driver's seat is adjustable in the longitudinal direction, backrest angle and height, the front passenger seat is adjustable in the longitudinal direction and backrest angle. The front and rear seats are equipped with height-adjustable head restraints. The rear seatback can be folded forward in sections in a 40:60 ratio.

The transmission is made according to a front-wheel drive design with front wheel drives equipped with constant velocity joints. IN basic configuration The cars are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Upon request, a four-speed automatic transmission can be installed on cars with engines with a displacement of 1.6 and 2.0 liters.

Front suspension MacPherson type, independent, spring, with stabilizer lateral stability, with hydraulic shock absorbers. The rear suspension is independent, spring, with hydraulic shock absorbers.

The front wheel brakes are disc, ventilated, with a floating caliper; rear - drum, with a device for automatically adjusting the gaps between brake pads and drums. Brake system equipped with a vacuum booster.

The steering is safety-resistant, with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism; some vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic or electro-hydraulic booster. Steering column Adjustable for reach and inclination. The front airbag is located in the steering wheel hub.

All vehicles are equipped with inertial diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and outer rear seat passengers. There is a lap belt for the middle rear seat passenger.

Hello dear fellow motorists. Today I was watching the news, and they cited statistics on sales of new cars in Russia. Do you think there is an increase in sales? Absolutely none and even a fall. New cars are selling worse and worse and rare new car is in demand. True, sometimes I notice that a lot of new Hyundai Cretas have begun to appear on the roads, which means the car is popular, but otherwise the market for new cars is as quiet as a tank. But car enthusiasts still need to update their cars from time to time, and as statistics show, clearly not by purchasing new ones, so they are increasingly turning their attention to the secondary market. Today we will talk about a car that can only be found aftermarket; there are no new ones. We bring to your attention a review of Ford Focus 2.

The second generation of the model appeared back in 2005. The car compares favorably with its classmates in the quality of finishing materials and 5-star (according to Euro NCAP) safety. Focus 2 had 4 configurations and an impressive list of options that could be equipped with any of them.

Focus 2 stood out among its similarly packaged classmates with the most modest price tag. And it was not without reason.

Not included in any configuration ABS system, any music is an option. Even the richest Ghia package sported 15-inch stampings (only the design of the hubcaps differed).

After restyling in 2008, the configurations underwent virtually no changes. Since the end of 2009, that is, when the 2010 model year began, the Ghia equipment gave way to Titanium, and the Trend equipment has sunk into oblivion.

Titanium from Ghia was distinguished by so-called sports seats with improved lateral support, carbon fiber trim on the center console, and dark headlight rims on the outside. The photo shows the interior of my car after 90 thousand miles (pre-sale photo).

Engines and gearboxes

Not a single C-class car could boast of having such a choice of power units:

  • This is also a frankly weak unit, which was combined only with a manual transmission, with a displacement of 1.4 liters and 80 hp. Thank God there are few such cars on the secondary market, since this engine is absolutely weak for a C-class car;
  • followed by the reliable and time-tested 1.6 with an output of 100 hp, or rather a little less, so that the owners do not pay high transport tax. It was with this engine that a four-speed automatic transmission was available. 100 Horse power, automatic and vehicle weight of about 1300 kg, were difficult to harmonize. If driving a Ford with a manual transmission was more or less comfortable, then with an automatic transmission, you often had to turn the engine off, resorting to the Kickdown mode;
  • there was an engine with the same displacement of 1.6, but thanks to the variable valve timing system it produced 115 forces. It was mated only to a five-speed manual transmission and rewarded the car with quite tolerable dynamics. Well, at least much better than the previous internal combustion engine;
  • 1.8 and 125 hp This engine is structurally different from the 1.6. The design is similar to the two-liter one, which we will discuss in more detail. 1.8 and 2.0 are more reliable engines, one might say more durable. This is also confirmed by the chain that drives the gas distribution mechanism.

But from all sources this engine received criticism regarding floating speeds idle move. It really was like that. But this design flaw can be cured.

  • Next, let's talk about the largest gasoline unit of 2 liters (we do not take into account the sports RS and ST). The output of 145 horsepower was unremarkable for those times. Competitors like the Civic and Lancer produced comparable power from a much smaller volume of 1.8 liters. But more about competitors later. 2.0 could be combined with both automatic and manual. With a manual transmission, the car became very fast (acceleration to hundreds in just over 9 seconds). The four-speed automatic transmission did not make this car a racing car, but it was comfortable to move in space and, most importantly, there was always enough acceleration dynamics.
  • That leaves the 1.8 diesel with 115 horsepower. Mounted only with a manual transmission. This engine had very good dynamics, and most importantly for buyers of such cars, efficiency. Ford is one of the few manufacturers who have decided to supply diesel engines in this car segment.

Be sure to read the material about, it also tells you what oil I used.

Fuel consumption

I wrote about the fuel consumption of my car (sedan 2.0 automatic transmission) and other versions of the second Focus.

Comparison with competitors

Here, in addition to comparison, I will also write about why I chose the second Focus. I will assume that since you are considering purchasing a Ford Focus 2, you do not exclude the possibility of purchasing its competitors. Who are they:

  1. VW Golf 5, the sixth, is not a direct competitor based on price, although they were produced for more than two years together
  2. Mitsubishi Lancer 10
  3. Astra H
  4. Octavia A5
  5. Kia Ceed (Cerato)
  6. Elantra
  7. Civic
  8. Toyota Corolla

I’ll look at the competitors as objectively as possible. I ask in advance the owners of these cars not to be offended by the truth.

  1. VW Golf. In the fall of 2009, a generational change was just taking place and the following situation emerged. The 5th generation was no longer produced, and the remnants were sold, in principle at a good price. But I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a car that was no longer in production. The 6th generation had a completely different price tag (((
  2. Lancer 10. It’s easier to list a few advantages here, and you understand everything else - disadvantages. Undoubted "+" spacious salon, big ground clearance and that's it! Poor and rumbling interior, no sound insulation even compared to Ford. Also, very meager configurations, expensive spare parts, only frankly weak 1.5 and 1.6 were equipped with a hydromechanical automatic transmission, more powerful engines had variators (CVT). To be honest, I didn’t even consider buying it.
  3. Astra is a more worthy competitor, although it looks on par with the pre-restyling model. The restyled Focus is much more interesting. I'll start with the engines: Opel engines have never been a model of reliability and durability, which is why there are a lot of recalls and other things.
  4. Octavia is a cool car. Especially with the turbocharged 1.8, which had amazing dynamics. I refused to buy it because there are 2 huge drawbacks. The first is the price; in a configuration comparable to Ford, the car turned out to be 80–100 thousand rubles more expensive. And actually the second one is that the 1.8 was then combined only with DSG, which even now is not a gift, but then it was scary to even think about. Only a few years later, the DSG on this engine was replaced with a 6-speed hydromechanical automatic.
  5. Kia Ceed and Hyundai Elantra I’ll describe it in one paragraph, since the machines are basically similar. Now the Koreans have come a long way, their cars have an interesting design and decent ergonomics. Back in 2009, this was not the case. Don’t hold it against me, this is addressed to the owners of these cars, but it was enough to get into this car, and I immediately refused to purchase it, it didn’t even get to the test drive.
  6. The Honda Civic had a specific design, but I really liked it. I also liked the very dynamic and at the same time economical 1.8 and the automatic, which here had 5 steps (we are talking about a sedan body, the hatchback was equipped with a robot). The price of this car contributed. For the money that was asked for a Ford Focus 2.0 with an automatic transmission in the maximum Titanium configuration, I could only get the average manual configuration. The maximum speed with an automatic turned out to be more than 100 thousand more expensive.
  7. The turn came to Toyota, whose reliability is legendary, but reliability for me was not the main criterion when choosing. But the boring and pensioner interior, using cheap materials, and the original design were decisive.

Before purchasing, I spent a lot of time reading reviews and test drives, watched a bunch of videos and came to the conclusion that two-liter Ford Focus suits me better than its competitors. With this we will say goodbye, but about what problems there were with the car over a mileage of 90,000 km, what broke and, most importantly, whether I was disappointed, read

They installed it on the Russian Focus II gasoline engines volume 1.4 l (80 hp), 1.6 l (100 and 115 hp), 1.8 l (125 hp) and 2.0 l (145 hp) . Dealers also sold versions with a 1.8-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 115 horsepower. As standard, the 1.4-liter, 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter engines were combined with a five-speed manual transmission of the IB5 series, and with the 2.0-liter - the same “five-speed”, but with the MTX75 index, capable of “digesting” a larger torque. For all gasoline engines, except the 1.4-liter, a four-speed automatic transmission was offered.

In 2008, Ford introduced the updated Focus, which many even called the third “Focus” - the car was so radically transformed. But it was a classic restyling. The car now has new fenders, a hood, bumpers, headlights, exterior mirrors, and sidewalls - without moldings, but with more dynamic stiffeners. And the most noticeable innovation is the radiator grille in the form of a huge inverted trapezoid. For all versions except the sedan, rear wheels began to be offered as an option. led lights. Another luxury Titanium package has appeared. In the cabin, the climate control unit and dashboard. The finishing materials have become even better. But in technically Focus hasn't changed. It is the restyled versions that are preferable for purchase - most of the congenital diseases in such “Focuses” had already been cured by this time.

Modifications of Ford Focus II

Body

As a rule, the inspection of the specimen you like begins with the body. We still greet people based on their clothes. And if Focus doesn't inspire you with its appearance, don't rush to give up. Faded paint, sandblasted sills at the bottom and darkened decorative details on cars with high mileage are, rather, signs of natural aging rather than barbaric use. Particular attention is paid to the chrome trim on the trunk lid: corrosion at the point of contact with the body appears after two or three Russian winters. It costs about 5,000 rubles. At the same time, check the license plate illumination - its wiring succumbs to corrosion quite quickly. Moreover, hatchbacks and sedans suffer from this to a greater extent. Repair - 1500 rub.

In winter, the touch buttons of the trunk lock often freeze due to moisture. In addition, the Focus has had a signature problem since the first generation - a souring hood opening lock. In order for it to open easily, you need to lubricate the inner surface of the emblem covering the lock cylinder. Better yet, replace the standard plastic lock (RUB 3,000) with a metal one from Mondeo. The central locking often fails, causing not only the doors to be blocked, but also the gas tank flap. Therefore, an attempt to refuel with a failed central locking may turn out to be unsuccessful.

Salon

The interior of the "Focuses" is assembled carefully and conscientiously. Even with age, squeaks and crickets do not bother him. And fabric upholstery is easy to dry clean and is wear-resistant. True, it happens that interior equipment and electrics are moping. There have been complaints about the failure of seat heating. Moreover, for the original “hot water bottle” you will have to pay about 10,000 rubles. There are known cases of climate control vagaries due to the failure of the cabin temperature sensor (RUB 2,500). Therefore, checking the performance of the air conditioner before purchasing a used Focus is advisable. Also drive the “stove” in different fan modes - the “whistle” of the motor will indicate its imminent demise. The new electric motor will empty your pocket by 7,500 rubles. True, a burnt resistor (900 rubles) can often be the culprit for the sudden “death” of a fan. Low beam and headlight bulbs often burn out, and to replace them you have to remove the headlight unit. And in winter you need to be prepared to replace failed elements of the side mirrors. The new amalgam is estimated at 2000 rubles.

Engine

Mechanics praise the basic 1.4-liter engine - it has virtually no congenital problems. The main thing is not to forget on time, every 80 thousand km, to update the timing belt. True, due to its modest volume and power, it is usually “twisted” to the fullest and it works for wear, falling into second hands already at the limit of its resource.

The 1.6-liter engine (100 hp), which was installed on the first Focus, rightfully bears the title of the most widespread and reliable. It accounts for more than a third of all “Focuses” presented on the market today. The South African-assembled motor is intended for use in third world countries. Its simple design determines excellent maintainability and low cost of operation. But many consider this unit to be rather weak for a modern car. Especially paired with an automatic transmission.

Another thing is its 115-horsepower brother, equipped with a variable valve timing system on the intake and exhaust shafts. The engine's thrust is already quite sufficient in all modes, and it gets along much better with an automatic transmission, and in terms of efficiency it is not inferior to the 100-horsepower version. Only this modern motor quickly “runs out” of the phase reflex coupling (RUB 11,500). True, on modernized machines the unit has become more durable.

Modifications with “fours” with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters are second only to versions with a 1.6 liter engine (100 hp). Both engines are identical in design and suffer from common ailments. The service life of the engines is 350 thousand km. And the timing drive has a long-lasting chain, which is usually replaced after 200 thousand km. But in order for the engines to live safely into old age, after the first “hundred” you should pay attention to the valve cover gasket (RUB 1,000), which begins to poison the oil. However, at first you can limit yourself to tightening the bolts that are weakening due to vibrations. And then only replacement. By this time, as a rule, the upper hydraulic engine mount wears out (RUB 3,500).

The unreasonable melancholy of the 1.8-liter engine (it appears less frequently on the 2.0-liter) - poor traction and cold starts, rough idle speeds and increased fuel consumption - was associated with unfinished software of the electronic engine control unit. Therefore, dealers changed its firmware depending on the malfunction, although they were extremely reluctant to take these measures. Ignition coils, high-voltage wires, and fuel pumps are also short-lived. The block gets dirty quite quickly throttle valve and an exhaust gas recirculation valve. Neutralizers (34,000 rubles) do not differ in mileage either, the life expectancy of which depends on engine oil consumption. If the engine's appetite increases to 200 grams per 1000 km, you need to sound the alarm and contact service. Otherwise, expensive repairs are guaranteed.

It is advisable to change the oil in a 1.8 liter turbodiesel every 5–10 thousand km, and refuel only at proven network gas stations. And then fuel pump high pressure(fuel injection pump) will overcome the 200 thousand km mark. Repair - from RUB 30,000. You will have to spend money on new injection nozzles (RUB 12,500 each) and flush the exhaust gas recirculation valve. After 100 thousand km, the dual-mass flywheel wears out. A similar problem, by the way, occurs on the 2.0-liter gasoline engine. If you feel jerking when starting off and a characteristic rattling sound, change it immediately. The part is expensive - from 25,000 rubles, but the consequences of the destruction caused by the flywheel will be even more noticeable.

Transmission

On a manual IB5 gearbox, after 50–80 thousand km, “departures” of the second gear are known due to weak synchronizers. And when working with an increased load, the pinion axis in the differential may burst, which threatens a hole in the crankcase and repairs costing 100,000 rubles. If during a test drive the box “howls like a beast,” it means the input shaft bearing is worn out. And it urgently needs to be changed. Otherwise, the consequences can be depressing.

But the “mechanics” of the MTX75 are more durable. True, over time, oil seals and gear shift rod seals leak, and due to the low level of transmission oil, the shafts and gear rims quickly wear out. The clutch can last 100 thousand km or more, if not for a weak release bearing, made in a single block with the clutch slave cylinder, which wears out after 50 thousand km.

But the “automatic” is as simple as five kopecks and reliable as a tank. Box 4F27E was installed on various models Ford yet in the late 1980s, so today she is almost completely free of childhood diseases. After 150 thousand km, you will only need to repair the valve body (RUB 22,000) and replace the pressure regulator solenoids.

Suspension

With the driving properties of the Focus II, everything is in perfect order thanks to the finely tuned independent suspension. Its main elements are long-lived. The idyll is broken by the support bearings of the struts, “nursing” on average 40–70 thousand km. Approximately the same amount was allocated to the wheel bearings, which are replaced as an assembly with the hubs. When replacing, do not forget about the ABS sensors - they are often damaged during dismantling. Light knocks in the suspension after 40,000 km will make themselves felt by the stabilizer struts. But the bushings last almost twice as long. At the same time, at 80–110 thousand km, the turn will come to update the ball joints assembled with a lever and silent blocks. And then shock absorbers are on the way (4,200 rubles each).

In the rear suspension, the stabilizer struts are updated every 60–80 thousand km. The bushings last on average one and a half times longer. By “hundred” the lower arms wear out. Shock absorbers (3,800 rubles each) have a slightly longer lifespan - they often reach 110–140 thousand km.

In the steering system, the rod ends are enough for 50–80 thousand km. And the rack itself on the first cars was even changed under warranty, but by 2008 it became more durable. Moreover, versions with 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines were equipped with a traditional hydraulic booster, and more powerful modifications came with an electro-hydraulic power steering, which can “burn out” the pump control board. Usually you have to change the entire assembly for 28,000 rubles.

Bottom line

Finding a technically serviceable Ford Focus II will not be difficult. If you are not satisfied with modifications with reliable 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines (100 hp), you can find a Focus from Europe with an equally reliable 2.0 liter turbodiesel. True, we have few such versions. And it’s better to opt for post-restyling cars - they have already suffered from childhood diseases.

Ford Focus II (2004–2011): case history

Second Ford generation Focus became a bestseller even before its official sales began. All promotion work on Russian market it was made for him by his predecessor, who was extremely in demand by our compatriots. And the appearance of the Ford Focus II marked a new, higher quality product - the car was distinguished by high-quality finishing materials, good driving properties and a reasonable price, which was ensured by the Vsevolozhsk assembly. Near St. Petersburg they produced sedans, as well as three- and five-door hatchbacks, while station wagons and coupe-cabriolet hardtops were imported from Europe.

Ford Focus II (2004–2011): case history

Good afternoon!

Soon Fordik will turn 4 years old, I decided to unsubscribe a little...

The car has been parked near the house since January 2014, electric, metro and reason have prevailed, and getting there by public in 1 hour 30 minutes is much more pleasant than by car from 1.5 to 2.5 one way...)

Review of Ford Focus 2.0 16V (Ford Focus) 2010 Part 2

4 years of operation have passed during which I have driven only 33,000 km. But the completely unpredictable situation in the country, the expiring warranty and a good offer to buy my car pushed me to the decision that it was time to change the car. Therefore, I will describe my impressions of the car over the 23,000 km traveled since the last review of it.

Let me remind you: Ford Focus, production: December 2010, sedan, 2 liters, 5 manual transmission, Titanium package + Winter package (heated front seats, windshield, windshield washer nozzles), color “white”

I described my impressions of the exterior/interior and the main components of the car in detail in my first review. I will only note that nothing in my perception of Snow White has changed during this time. The car has always pleased with its good handling and dynamic acceleration, and the convenient location of all controls.

Strengths:

  • Engine
  • Controllability
  • Design
  • Liquidity in the secondary market
  • Reliability
  • Comfort

Weak sides:

  • Low ground clearance
  • Harsh suspension

Good day. I decided to write my first review.

I bought the car a year ago to replace a successfully sold Priora. There was no pain in choosing a brand, initially I wanted a restyled focus, but finding a well-maintained example was not so easy, despite the fact that the car is common. I searched for 2 months. The requirements were: price 450 thousand (edge), one owner, dealer, maximum equipment (presence of ESP and maximum number of airbags), local, mileage no more than 50 thousand, no accidents, engine no less than 1.8, 1.6 or less did not even consider. As a result, what we have: we negotiated for 445 thousand, 2008, Russian assembly, GIA equipment, no standard xenon, leather and winter package (heated seats and windshield), cruise control, everything else is there, mileage at the time of purchase is 39 thousand, at a hundred confirmed, the ideal condition of both the car as a whole and the interior, winter tires on wheels (I really liked the Danlom Graspik DS 2, it was the first time I was riding on Velcro, I thought there would be no problem after the studs), the first trip from the city of Shakhty to my native Zernograd caused a storm of positive emotions, once again Let me explain, before Fedya I drove only on frets. fast, quiet, in other words, a foreign car))

When buying a used car, I was ready to spend certain expenses. When buying, I noticed that the car was yawing at speed, on the advice of a knowledgeable person, I changed the tires to Kumho KU 31 SPT 205 55 R16, after the replacement the yaw stopped. My only regret is that I didn’t take the 60th profile, and they are excellent tires, quiet, and brake well , drives well through puddles. We also replaced after the purchase the oil formula f 5w30 1100r-5l., oil filter 260r., original power steering fluid 1l-500r., brake fluid 1l-300r., air filter 350r., cabin filter 350r., covered the face with armored film, installed Philips daytime running lights (2500r), bought lamps for low beam 110% (1000r) and adjusted them according to the stand (200r) as a result, excellent low beam, to be honest, I don’t see the point in non-standard xenon, although many people drive, original spark plugs (1,100 rubles per set), cleaning of injectors, throttle valves and injectors (1,500 rubles) I do everything from unofficials, windshield wiper blades were taken by the Belgian Champion (700 rubles), very pleased, I took the original (700 rubles) on the back. Poor location of the tank brake fluid, it was impossible to reach with a canister, I had to make a hose with a watering can)) in addition, the reservoir itself is opaque. When replacing the antifreeze, it turned out that there was no drain hole in the block, only in the radiator, so I drained as much as was drained and added a new one, why not do it like on a vase?!

Strengths:

  • Handsome
  • Goes well
  • Good handling
  • Good interior materials
  • In my case, the equipment
  • Clear gear shifting
  • Headlights
  • Nothing rattles (after the vases)
  • Convenient handles for opening doors and trunk lids
  • Liquidity
  • Lots of non-original parts
  • The engine warms up quickly and cools down slowly

Weak sides:

  • No 6th gear
  • Poor quality seat trim
  • Price for some spare parts (for example fuel pump)
  • Some engineering solutions (see review)
  • Fog light (it was better on the Priora with standard bulbs)
  • One reversing light
  • Overview while driving in reverse
  • Floating speed
  • Standard mudguards are hard and low (easy to lose)
  • No USB for stock radio
  • Original continental tires
  • Alternator belt squealing when cold
  • Crunching sound when engaging reverse gear
  • Antifreeze does not drain from engine block
  • Standard casting will peel off

Review of Ford Focus 2.0 16V (Ford Focus) 2010

Good day to all!

I have owned a car since 2010, bought it new for 682,000 rubles. The equipment is almost maximum (everything except leather) titanium. During the entire period of operation (city - 80%, highway - 20%), only consumables (oil, filters, pads) were changed. At 100,000 km I changed all the brake discs (although the rear ones could not have been changed), while changing shoes I noticed a wet spot on the rear shock absorber and immediately changed all four at the OD. And they told me that I could still drive... but I decided to change it, as it would be safer.

There was also a replacement of the support bearings (under warranty), the belt tensioner pulley (under warranty), the stabilizer link on the left (under warranty for 80,000 km), and I replaced the second one on my own. That's all the expenses... yes, also spark plugs every 20,000 km. Service only at OD.

Strengths:

The car is inexpensive, reliable, convenient... also quite inexpensive to operate. This is already the second Ford Focus I have (the first was 2008, 1.6 manual transmission). Only 2L is more suitable for this car.

Weak sides:

The downside is quite a bit... the paintwork could have been better (the paint has come off at the junction of the rear bumper and the fender near the wheel arch, 1-1.5 cm), although after 4.5 years of regular use, it’s probably not very bad.

Review of Ford Focus 1.4 16V (Ford Focus) 2009

The car was bought by accident. I needed a car “to learn how to drive after driving school.” Initially I looked at 2113-2114 (due to budget limitations and lack of knowledge/assistants in choosing used cars), but thanks to the crisis in the spring of 2009, a preferential car loan program was launched and Ford reduced the price of its simplest model to 345k rubles. True, after a couple of months the ceiling on the cost of the program was raised almost 2 times and prices immediately flew away, but whoever had time snatched it. I'm one of them. Since I initially counted on the domestic auto industry, money was tight and I got the car in the most basic form - without ABS, air conditioning, casting, music and other joys of life - but oh well.

In general, over 5 years and 60k km, the machine itself has not caused any trouble. The engine subjectively produces more than 80 horses. With 1-2 people in the car, I didn’t feel disadvantaged in city traffic - acceleration was at the level of 8-valve tens. Very good gearbox(only there are plugs with reverse gear - as they said at the service center, “a design defect”). Good visibility, the mirrors are generally the best I’ve ever encountered - moderately large, with curved tips on both, there were no blind spots, at least for me.

In the first winter, out of my own stupidity, I drained the car’s battery and left it in the cold for several weeks (New Year’s holidays). The verdict of experts on the forum and other familiar car enthusiasts is that it needs a replacement, they say it’s not a good option. Nevertheless, I warmed it up, discharged and charged it a couple of times and it still works! In extreme winter, after 40 hours of inactivity, it started at -29 the first time (if you know how). Also, in the first year of operation, it rubbed against a concrete pillar when parking - it slightly deformed the wing and stripped the paintwork down to the metal. For the first months I didn’t do anything about it at all (I was looking for where I could do it on a budget), then I just covered it with Ford anti-chip paint in several layers - after 5 years there are no hints of rust. 2 times in the city I got into a head-on accident - judging by the sound and sensations in the cabin, I thought it was serious, but no - the metal on the body is very good and local craftsmen were even able to restore the original bumper.

Strengths:

Metal, paintwork

Suspension, steering

Visibility

Weak sides:

By 60,000 the interior began to rattle (possibly the consequences of installing acoustics in the first year), it is necessary to open and glue

The installation of some consumables is illogical and labor-intensive - battery, cabin filter

The front low beam lamps often burn out - and the problem is widespread in the FF2, because “one-eyed” people often come across on the roads

Review of Ford Focus 1.6 16V (Ford Focus) 2009 Part 4

I continue the report on the operation of my ff. It’s been 10 years since the last review, but quite a lot of events have happened that forced me to sit down at the keyboard again. All the advantages of the car have not gone away and I am not giving up on them. Writing about them again is boring. But the fact that the car required the first serious expenditure of money is a fact. This is what I want to talk about.

At the next maintenance, the mechanic strongly recommended repairing the rear suspension. He showed me the well-torn rubber in the lever seals. It turns out that after overhauling the multi-link, I didn’t reach the psychological barrier of 100 tk. mileage Result: the rear suspension was loose at 70 tk, while the first signs of rubber fatigue were noticed at 50 tk. Is it a lot or a little? I don't know, but I expected more. Despite the fact that it is still ideal, it means that the exploitation is not brutal on my part. Thoughts about some kind of catch cannot leave me, because next to me there was a focus with a mileage of 200 thousand. – the rear suspension is still in good condition! The owner swore that he did not climb there. And of the differences in the cars, I only found that it had a German assembly. And for me: replacement of the trailing arm bushings (dead completely), steering control arms assemblies (deadly killed), large spring-loaded lever assemblies (close to death) and the obligatory wheel alignment. Total for everything including work is 16,500 rubles. I still have the sickles and stabilizer alive - with them it would have been 20,000 rubles. This is a good informal one. The dealer has 42,000 rubles. For all. Yes, and I want to note: even the worn-out rear multi-link does not knock or rattle. Look there. After the replacement, I felt increased elasticity and... composure or something...

From under the chrome saber on the fifth door, the paint was peeling off again in places that I touched up with a brush. I found two more hearths on the same door on the bend right under the glass. I decided to paint the door completely. Price 9000 rub. along with cutting and pasting glass. By the way, I would like to note that in places where the paintwork has fallen off, the metal does not rust. When I gave the car back, the master secretly showed me another sore spot of paintwork tricks - the junction of the rear bumper and the wing. And indeed, on the left side at the very bottom of this joint, paint the size of match head. « Design feature– the master nodded – this place was simply created for sand and small pebbles to live there and gnaw the paint down to the metal!” There is only one way out: from new, wash the car almost every day, otherwise dirt or snow sticks to the mudguard, makes it heavy and it begins to imperceptibly shake the bumper, and it, in turn, rubs sand at the joint on the fender. For now I'll spray it with chemicals and paint it with a brush. I haven't received the paint job yet. But I walk around the city and see through one of the tricks with a peeling wing. I also plan to completely polish the body of a friend - I no longer have the strength to look at the countless small scratches that literally burn on the black paint after each wash.

Strengths:

  • An excellent car in terms of consumer qualities and driving habits

Weak sides:

  • Weak paintwork

Hello everyone, 1.5 years have already passed since I sold my Ford Focus 2 and switched to the 2nd generation Kia Sid.

What can I say, I don’t remember Ford clearly. I’ll say that I’m glad to change Ford, and I won’t take it (anything) again.

The only pleasant thing I can remember is the 1.8 engine, which runs a little, the appearance is nothing so nice, the noise (I had an additional one) there’s nothing else I can remember.

Review of Ford 1.8 TDCi 115 hp, 5-speed manual transmission (Ford Focus) 2008 Part 4

Good afternoon

I decided to write a short review about what has happened over the past two years and plans for the future.

We will be 7 years old in June. The odometer shows 117,180 km. Over the entire period of time, almost 495 thousand rubles were spent (evaporated) on maintenance and service. Of these, parking is 60 thousand rubles, insurance/taxes are 68 thousand rubles, fuel itself is 166 thousand rubles. (fuel consumed 6,589 liters). The rest is maintenance, spare parts, repairs, consumables and additional equipment (forged wheels, winter tires, DRLs, PCM firmware, EGR muffling).

Review of Ford Focus 1.4 16V (Ford Focus) 2010

I got this car thanks to our Vladimir’s recycling program. They stimulated well then. Actually, I thought, well, let’s take a spotty car for a couple of years, and my wife wants a foreign car;) We took it, the wife chose the color, it’s more noticeable on the road - therefore safer. Well, it looks clear (when washed).

The first driving sensations, as far as I remember, were WOW (this is after the VAZ). Excellent handling and tenacious brakes, small pedal strokes, rocker panels, informative steering wheel - a delight. It feels like he can do whatever you want on the road, depending only on your reaction and the horses under the hood. There weren’t enough horses, of course - 80. But in principle, it was enough for my driving style; on the track you get a little nervous when overtaking a long vehicle, but that’s normal. The configuration is the simplest, with twists. But for me it’s better than a stuffed basin. An acquaintance took the fourteenth in the latest configuration, I don’t remember exactly, probably 100 thousand less than mine. I ask, what’s not a Ford or some other foreign car? He says that he does not have money to service foreign cars. I don’t think there’s any point in saying who did more digging around in the yard and garage and who spent more. Because The Ford had a warranty of 2 years or 100,000 km. Having successfully survived a year of operation, I decided to forget about maintenance at the dealer and changed the consumables myself. By that time, I had heard a lot about maneuvers at the dealer, how they “work” there - yeah.

Once, while reversing in a parking lot (it’s so hard to see), my front left wheel hit an open hatch (it’s on Bogatyrskoye, opposite the OK, there’s a center for various spare parts, I think it’s still open), but not all of the wheel went away, I braked in time , and about 6 cm remained to the bottom. And here I am, using the handbrake, turning the steering wheel all the way, engaging 2nd gear and accelerating - I surprised both myself and the horse. Then somehow at low speed I drove into a high pavement (distracted). Pah-pah, it seems like nothing. In appearance, the ground clearance seems so small, but in reality I felt more confident on it in such hoods than on the 99th, I almost didn’t shuffle, except with the mudguards. This apparently depends on the design of the car itself; everything is very well thought out - both outside and inside. Now I don’t remember what surprised me and when, but the fact that such a feeling remained is a fact. That's what it means big story automaker - with each series they redo even the smallest mistakes, and the end result is a legend, like a new Explorer :))

Strengths:

  • Good unpretentious car

Weak sides:

Review of Ford Focus 1.8TDCi (115hp/1.8l/5 manual transmission) (Ford Focus) 2010

Thanks to all those who leave reviews here, I myself have been reading this resource for about 5 years, it was he who helped me a lot with choosing a car. Also, huge respect to the people who subscribe to the FFCLUB specialized forum :-) This often helps a lot to save money when diagnosing and repair, so that you are not scammed into repairing or replacing something that in reality will later turn out to be serviceable; it has long been a known fact about the selection of replacements for the original!

After the sale of the 9th Lancer in 2010, the question of purchasing a new one was not raised, because there were stupidly other needs. Was under investigation (organized criminal group). That’s why the red penny (013) from 1980 came to the rescue. There were no complaints about its reliability at all! I've driven about 40,000 miles on it so far. Of the breakdowns, only the ball filter (due to ignorance) and due to inexperience, the air filter got wet due to rain, because I did not know that in wet weather the air intake should be turned to the air intake from the engine side. But I must say that this penny has an original mileage of about 150 thousand and the paint is still original. It’s still standing in another garage, I rarely use it, I don’t even take out maintenance or insurance, it’s easier to “solve it on the spot” everything.

But more favorable times came and I began to think about something more comfortable. For some reason, I no longer looked towards the Japanese. And the domestic auto industry... I already have it, it makes sense to take it again, it’s only more expensive, although comfort has increased there over 40 years, it’s an abyss even compared to old foreign cars.. I love it when a car looks pleasing to the eye, even if it has to be repaired more often. I read a lot of reviews about the Merc 124, BMW 39, Audi 45, C5.80V4, Passat B5+, Peugeot 407. Only diesel was considered. But alas, nothing was possible to find them alive in Volgograd, and the price tags were outrageous, and many at that time were from the Republic of Belarus and Moscow. After reading the reviews (I was especially impressed by this one, Max333 http://www.avtomarket.ru/opinions/Mercedes/E-class/19485/) about the owners’ investments, I decided: “well, what the heck?” this rarity, the car is needed every day, mileage I have big ones. And then, purely by chance, a friend of mine offers me a second-hand purchase, knowing that I want a diesel, Ford Focus 2. It was a restyling from 2010. With a running mileage of 31 thousand km. In appearance, the car is in new condition. I, of course, knew at that time that “a good diesel is a new diesel”; the price tags for repairs were also approximately known to me. Without thinking for a long time, I took it.

Strengths:

  • Reliability (who would have thought)
  • Security (I didn't expect it)
  • Appearance (though not in all trim levels)
  • Inability to drive away (due to diesel)
  • The traffic police are not interested (until you seriously violate it)
  • Adaptation of the 1.8 TDCI (KKDA) diesel engine to our realities
  • Study of the design by servicemen, absence of childhood diseases on the restyle
  • I haven't had any problems with winter starts.

Weak sides:

  • Even schoolchildren know about saving on Ford matches
  • Only the really lazy people didn’t write about the noise in the cabin (and it’s not a matter of sound insulation)
  • Maintainability: the manufacturer’s desire to replace entire units, even if a cheap part has worn out
  • A lot of things, even in consumables, are made so that you even have to go to the OD to replace the air filter
  • Ground clearance is one of the lowest in the class, it will be difficult for rural areas

Hello everyone!

At the moment, we have reached the 60 mark with the machine. And now we already have the first jambs. No, no, not breakdowns, but just such unpleasant, but not global problems! However, I spent almost nothing financially on eliminating them, and this is a very important indicator. And so first things first...

About 50k. I saw Jackie Chan for the first time. It came on without any external reason when I was driving along the highway evenly and at the speed limit. And after the fire, there were no changes in the behavior of the car. I drove another 500 km with it before I got to the service center. As a result, error P0420 was diagnosed, which indicates low catalyst efficiency. The error was cleared, and I hoped that I had grabbed bad gasoline. But after 1000 km the check appeared again, and then two more times with an interval of 300 km. Verdict - Katalik is dead! I started thinking about removing the neutralizer. But the car drives and starts well, the mileage is low, which means the cat is not clogged. My guesses were confirmed by a diagnostician who said that the flow in the exhaust system was excellent. And on the forum, people who deleted the cat basically said that it was clean, which means it simply loses its effectiveness. In general, I bought it for 20 rubles. resistance and condenser and installed electronic decoy into the circuit of the second lambda probe so that the Jackie Chan does not light up again. Fortunately, this sensor does not participate in mixture formation, but only monitors the condition of the neutralizer. Result: the car drives well, the error still does not come on, the consumption has not changed (highway - 6.5; city - 8; in winter we add 0.5 liters).

Strengths:

  • Reliability
  • Appearance is still pleasing to the eye
  • Comfortable seats - I don’t get tired on long journeys
  • Fuel consumption

Weak sides:

  • Ground clearance, although overall rowing is excellent
  • Catalytic converter (possibly due to our gasoline)
  • Unreliable design of the fifth door lining

Review of Ford Focus 1.6 16V (Ford Focus) 2009 Part 3

Review of Ford Focus 1.6 16V (Ford Focus) 2009

I took the car in 2009, the company helped, I actually wanted to buy a Mazda 3, I had already looked at it and chose the color, when I bought it they started to make mistakes, I didn’t have enough for the Mazda 120 thousand, although the preliminary agreement had already been drawn up and I was included in the title, but then They hung up all sorts of CASCO insurance, then the bank immediately handed over significant interest rates, in short, they sent them to hell. The manager and director began to threaten that the contract had been drawn up and the penalty was approximately 50 thousand!!! Without leaving them, in short, I won’t name the place and outlet, I also threatened with the prosecutor’s office and the law on the protection of consumer rights, the local boys were with me, in short, they amicably agreed and took the Ford at a discount for about 620 thousand, having previously pulled the Mazda PTS manager out of the mouth.

The car didn’t cause any trouble, we drove it a little, the handling is good, the suspension is for our roads, the engine is certainly not a hurricane, but for 1.6 liters it’s quite nimble and eats moderately. SONY's music is cool, the car's equipment is not rich, although I was immediately given partronics, a GARANT, and a signaling system, carpets, by the way, on the Mazda - these were all a separate option and there was no music at all except for the radio. And I didn’t regret that I took a Ford, everything was cheaper - consumables, tires, and repairs.

But the possession was short-lived; on Lermontovsky Prospekt I was picked up by a DAF truck tractor with 54 regions on board, and a sleep-deprived long-haul truck with a black face. When changing lanes to the far right lane, he simply didn’t see me, and I was about to turn right and take the far right lane in advance. The guys quickly arrived, they thought it was crazy, I got out, I thought the DAF had left, but he was resting about 150 meters away with an emergency light. He did not deny guilt, they drew up a scheme and analyzed it for the post. There, as always, they gave him a warning and let me go; in exchange for expensive cognac, I received a certificate of an accident for the insurance company. By the way, that driver had more than his first accident that month, at least he was fined for good measure.

Strengths:

  • Easy to maintain
  • Inexpensive
  • Good ride quality

Weak sides:

  • Little space in the cabin
  • Modest trunk
  • Poor equipment
  • Poor protection for passengers and especially children

Review of Ford Focus Wagon 2.0 16V (Ford Focus) 2010 Part 3

Three years have passed since I owned this car. Time flies by, it seems like I bought it yesterday, and then bam and the steward has already reeled it in. It's time to change your car to something new. Life sets its own priorities, and at the same time, completely different tasks are set for the new iron friend. Although the old horse does not spoil the furrows, it can no longer cope with new tasks. Therefore, the old friend Ford will be replaced by a new friend from the SUV class, but that’s another story, about it a little later.

Now I’ll tell you a little about my friend Ford Focus 2 station wagon. During my ownership, this car never let me down, it always started and drove no matter what. The car was serviced by the OD, and an extended warranty (300 euros) was purchased from the OD, the conditions were 100 thousand or 4 years, whichever comes first. I bought a warranty because, frankly, I was afraid for the car, since it is a Russian-assembled Ford Focus. As time has shown, I was very mistaken; in terms of reliability, the car will give odds to many Japanese and Korean manufacturers. I say this with confidence, since I previously owned both Japanese and Korean cars, and even now I have Koreans. In short, the guarantee did not justify itself.

During the entire period of operation, two joints came out. The first one is wheel bearing. As soon as I sat behind the car again, I noticed a small howl on the right side, I turned to the dealers, they pulled it, looked and said that everything was fine. So I drove 60k, after which the howling intensified and I presented it to the dealer again. The dealer changed it without any problems, but everyone was very surprised at how early replacement, because except for acoustic discomfort everything is normal. The mechanic broke it into balls and found that one ball had a roughness the size of half a match head, and it was this roughness that caused acoustic discomfort. The second problem is related to the notorious Russian localization of production. A year ago, when changing wheels from summer to winter, I noticed that the left inner CV joint was covered in oil. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the elastic had burst at the seam. The dealer changed it without sound, citing a defect in the manufacturer of this rubber band. That's all there was of breakdowns for 100k.

Good afternoon, dear forum users.

Another 25 thousand kilometers flew by on the diesel Focus. Soon to be 5 years old, birthday – June 6, 2008.

A short report from the numbers: over 97,245 km, 5,482 liters of fuel were consumed for the amount of 124 thousand rubles. (127.8 thousand including additives - anti-gels, lubricants), average consumption 5.64 l/100 km.

Review of Ford Focus 1.8 16V (Ford Focus) 2008

A few words about the car. The car was chosen only from the Spanish assembly, Vsevolozhskaya is immediately visible, I hope it will serve me faithfully for a couple of years. Externally, the car is inconspicuous, there are many of them now, no one will turn around to look. The interior decoration is normal, there is soft plastic in the dashboard, there is also hard plastic, nothing rattles, everything is fine, inside there is something between the cosmic design of the Koreans and the strict design of the Germans, in general there are no complaints about the interior decoration. I consider this car to be a good, inexpensive mid-range car, which has a lot of features from its older colleagues, but at the same time maintains an affordable price tag. I can't say anything about reliability as I haven't driven it much yet.

What I liked. I liked the engine, it drives cheerfully, playfully, smoothly, I won’t be a vegetable on the highway or in the city, but I won’t be able to leave everyone behind either, and there’s no such goal. I was pleased with the brakes, they grab well and immediately, despite the fact that there are drums at the rear. I liked the sound insulation, it is better than in Lachik, there is less noise, more comfort, the speed begins to be felt only after 120. I liked the suspension, it is harsh, but tolerable, I like the sound of the holes, quiet elastic tun-tun, holds the road better. It accelerates to 170 without strain and holds the road, there is no point in accelerating further, it is noisy and uncomfortable, the steering wheel begins to “lose” the car. Comfortable speed 120-130. I liked the 5-level heated seats, you can set the level you need, and not fry your butt like with heated seats with 2 options on. and off I liked the electric heating of the windshield, now I don’t have to crawl with a scraper, I just sat, waited, brushed off the thawed ice with the wipers and drove off. I finally understand how ESP works; it will help you turn on a slippery road, but you shouldn’t completely trust it with your life. I liked the standard Sony radio, it plays pleasantly, melodiously, bassy and pleasing to the ear, the difference is not even with the standard radio from Lachika immediately noticeable. I liked the retractable armrest, you can comfortably position your hand and change gears. I liked the additions such as a rain sensor, light sensor and cruise control, the systems work and make me happy. After the firmware, such pleasant little things appeared as auto-closing doors when driving, outputting information from the radio to the on-board computer. Now it is possible to monitor changes in (relative) tire pressure using sensors, and I have finally removed the stupid automatic activation of windshield and rear auto-heating when starting the engine. The presence of all sorts of functions such as turning on the backlight when opening the door, stopping the engine, a cooled glove box, parking lights, and a self-dimming rearview mirror pleasantly complement the picture of this car.

I also complained about a knocking sound in the steering; when I turn the steering wheel about 30 degrees to the left, a knocking sound occurs when driving over bumps. The master said that the rack was knocking (to be honest, this is the first time I’ve heard from employees dealership such reasoning with one’s own eyes, so to speak, usually under torture one does not confess to such things). As I understand it, they tightened the rail ( feedback unfortunately they didn’t), during further operation no knocks were detected in the rack. By and large, I no longer had any complaints about malfunctions. The maintenance lasted about 3 hours. I don’t understand what could have been done on this topic for such a long time :) After passing the MOT, all complaints about the car disappeared, the knocking went away (perhaps they stretched both the rack and the chassis) and squeaks. Now I'm going and enjoying it :)

In this review, I would like to pay increased attention to such an issue as the geometric cross-country ability of the car and, in general, the cross-country ability on snow-covered (heavily snow-covered) roads. Let me remind you that my car is equipped with an automatic transmission, i.e. in fact, the ability to operate a car in off-road (light off-road) conditions is severely limited by this point. Or perhaps I was influenced by the general opinion on this issue. But as my personal experience of driving on heavily snowy roads in a car equipped with an automatic transmission has shown, there was no need to be afraid. The Ford Focus turned out to be surprisingly passable, of course WITHOUT fanaticism, it is far from a jeep or even an SUV. I have expensive studded tires and when driving in bad road conditions I use the manual mode of the automatic transmission. With a competent approach and a competent assessment of the road situation, I drive almost everywhere (within reason) where rear-wheel drive manual cars don’t even go, and few front-wheel drive cars also go. Ford has a very small mass (1400-1500 kg depending on equipment and load) and rushes like a tank through all the snow and ice. But if you overestimate your strength, or miscalculate the situation, or stop, it’s a mess :) It will take a long time to dig out. But the crux of the matter is that I did not expect such vigorous cross-country ability from this car with an automatic transmission...

The salon is spacious. The kinks and curves are a thing of the past, but I must admit, I don’t miss them at all. The new interior may be more austere, but it is clearly more functional. And it looks more like a cockpit. Individuals will like it. The plastic is soft, the joints are even, the buttons are comfortable, you can’t complain about the gaps.

Nikolay Svistun, portal website, 2005

A little history

The second generation Ford Focus was born in 2004. Unlike the first Focus, the second was no longer a truly global car: in the USA, the Ford Focus 2 is a completely different model with its own design. Ford will return to unification only in 2011, when the third Focus debuts. Ford Focus 2 turned out to be noticeably larger than its predecessor and more conservative in appearance. Russian sales of the model began in 2005, and the restyled version reached our showrooms in 2008. The appearance of the updated car has become much more interesting due to the expressive trapezoidal radiator grille and new optics of a complex shape. Even more soft plastic appeared in the cabin and fashionable red lighting began to play.

Offer on the market

There are a lot of second “Focuses” on the market: every day hundreds of advertisements about their sales are published on Russian Internet platforms. Therefore, there is no need to rush into buying - look for a car that will suit you 100%. The most common body type on our market is the sedan. The five-door hatchback is a little behind. There are noticeably fewer station wagons, and three-door hatches are rare.

Russians, as you know, are fans of driving fast, and the Ford Focus can only show at least some dynamics with a manual transmission. The most common versions are relatively inexpensive, but high-spirited versions with 1.6 (115 hp) and 1.8 (125 hp) engines and manual transmission. Much less common are cars with an automatic transmission and a 2.0-liter engine (145 hp) and a completely “boring” 1.6-liter engine, which is also derated in this version from 115 to 100 hp. Well, and absolutely exotic - the most dynamic “Focuses” with a 2.0-liter engine (about the same 145 hp) and manual transmission, the most modest 1.4-liter (85 hp) models with a manual transmission and diesel versions with a 1.8 engine liter (115 hp), again with mechanics.

Not everyone will decide to change the seats in their car. That’s why their quality is especially pleasing. I would gladly elevate them to the rank of dogma. And I would include it in all textbooks on orthopedics. Optimal load distribution with a minimum of adjustments: you get comfortable instantly and don’t overload your brain and hands by groping for numerous levers and buttons. Bravo!

Nikolay Svistun, portal website, 2005

Average prices

The second generation Focus is falling in price quite smoothly. A noticeable difference (on average about 45,000 rubles) is only between cars produced in 2007 and 2008. Which, however, is not surprising: in 2008, the model underwent restyling, and more modern-looking models are expectedly valued higher on the market.

* The vast majority of cars sold on the secondary market have incorrect mileage. On average, a Russian driver drives about 20,000 kilometers per year. Therefore, a mileage of 60,000 km for a three-year-old model is quite realistic, but 90,000 for a six-year-old is already suspicious. Therefore, do not take odometer data on cars older than three years too seriously. Pay attention to the technical condition.

Typical breakdowns and operational problems

Ford Focus 2 as a whole is a very reliable and easy to maintain car. Problematic cars, of course, do occur, but only if the owners operated them in a harsh mode: they constantly overclocked the engine, conquered off-road terrain and neglected regular maintenance. To save yourself from unnecessary headaches in the future, here's what you should pay attention to first:

Body

The quality of the metal and paintwork is good, and the body is strong. The only weak point is the joints of the rear bumper with the wings, where chips often form. Even on a four- to five-year-old specimen, there should be no corrosion anywhere. If it is noticeable, it means that the element was clearly painted after an accident. It would be useful to remind you once again that upon purchase, the entire body must be checked with a micrometer for paint thickness in order to filter out broken copies.

Engine

On engines 1.4 and 1.6, the gas distribution mechanism is belt driven, and on engines 1.8 and 2.0 it is chain driven. The belt lasts a long time, it needs to be changed no more than once every 150,000 kilometers (under no circumstances should you tighten it, because if it breaks, you may end up having to replace bent valves), and its condition is a good indicator of the true mileage, which, we repeat, very often twisted. The checking procedure is very simple: at the end of the engine cylinder block, find a soft plastic casing that protects the belt from dirt. Bend it back and look: it’s easy to distinguish the old from the new. The timing chain on 1.8 and 2.0 engines is installed for the entire service life, but after 150 thousand runs it begins to gradually stretch. Ask the seller to start the car when it is cold and apply the gas. There should be no “purring” sound or crackling sound when releasing gas. If it is present, the car is heavily “rolled”, no matter what numbers are displayed on the odometer. Motors on the Focus also do not have a tendency to waste oil. And in general they don’t cause any problems if you don’t “twist” them often and change consumables in a timely manner. By the way, the original spark plugs here are platinum and have a very long service life - up to 120,000 kilometers. When inspecting the car, be sure to unscrew one spark plug and look: if it is not original, then the mileage is clearly more than 120,000 km. But it's hardly worth buying a Focus with a small engine, especially if you want it to drive at least a little. You will not notice any difference in fuel consumption, moreover: weak engines you have to work more actively with the gas pedal, which is why gasoline consumption will only increase, all other things being equal.

Transmission

The second generation Focuses were equipped with two types of 5-speed manual transmissions. For cars with engines 1.4 and 1.6 there was one modification, for 1.8 and 2.0 - another. The first, for low-power engines, is less reliable. When buying a car with such power units, it makes sense to check the box very carefully: listen to the hum in motion with the radio and heater off, make sure that all gears are engaged clearly - here the synchronizers and the input shaft bearing often fail. As for cars with powerful engines, their manual transmissions are practically indestructible. The only way to break them is by constantly operating the car in high-speed mode. The automatic transmissions on the Ford Focus 2 are also very reliable: time-tested American 4-speed gearboxes were installed on all versions. They are filled with oil for their entire service life, and if the owner did not have racing ambitions, the automatic transmission will last a very long time.

Suspension

The chassis of the Ford Focus is very good. It is balanced both for absorbing bumps and for very active taxiing. The weak point is the rear suspension arms, which are generally recommended to be changed every 60,000 - 70,000 kilometers. Many owners make do with half-measures and change only the silent blocks, but on broken levers the service life of the rubber bands is greatly reduced and new ones will have to be installed in 10-20 thousand. The remaining elements of the chassis are very durable. Steering rack“walks” for a very long time: it is designed in such a way that it practically does not deform even when frequently overcoming very bumpy roads.

Electrics

As such, there are no serious problems with electrical equipment on Focus vehicles, unless handicraftsmen have had time to “work” with it. Carefully inspect the engine compartment for “collective farm” twists of electrical tape - there shouldn’t be any. The factory connectors here are of very high quality: almost all are silver-plated and in some places even gold-plated.

Scheduled Maintenance

Maintenance of the Ford Focus takes place every 20,000 kilometers, although it would not be a bad idea to change the oil in the middle of the service interval. Brake fluid is changed every 2 years. The clutch lasts at least 100,000 kilometers. Antifreeze is changed once every 10 years or every 240,000 kilometers.

Maintenance costs from official dealers

The maintenance of a Ford Focus, when compared with competitors in its class (especially Japanese ones), is not at all expensive. The maintenance frequency is two times less than that of Toyota! Their cost, even if done at official dealers, is also very low. It’s worth making a reservation here, however, that Ford dealers do not directly provide prices for scheduled maintenance and only provide information on the cost of individual work, as well as regulations for replacing consumables. Definitely, if you contact them with a specific car, the price will be higher: more scheduled inspection units, as well as the consumables themselves.
