Types of stabilizer struts. What are stabilizer struts and what role do they play in a car

The original stabilizer struts of such a car as Lada Vesta may require replacement after 5-10 thousand kilometers. The owners are trying to supply more durable parts, while focusing on their financial capabilities. When making a choice, you should pay attention to the fact that the TOYOTA RAV 4 has a completely identical design of the front stabilizer struts - only 1 cm longer. This allows Vesta to be equipped with higher quality consumables, and the slight difference does not affect the performance of the suspension at all. Our review presents the best manufacturers of this type of spare parts on the domestic market.

For the convenience of the reader, the rating has been divided into several categories. The position of the models was determined on the basis of the characteristics declared by the manufacturer, as well as the recommendations of service center specialists, who, by the nature of their activities, have information about the endurance of parts of a particular company.

Best inexpensive stabilizer struts

The most popular and affordable segment of the domestic market brings together manufacturers whose products are trustworthy.

5 Febest

The fairest price
The country: Germany (Produced in PRC)
Average price: 403 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.2

The German brand has long been known in the Russian auto parts market and is valued for its affordable price with traditionally good quality components. And this is despite the transfer of the main facilities of the company to the territory of the PRC. Manufacturing requirements and careful process control keep the quality of spare parts within the strict ISO 9001 framework.

Front stabilizer bars Febest are produced for many car brands (from Subaru Impreza to domestic Lada Vesta), attracting a fair price and a clear absence of defects. In addition, they are able to withstand the harsh conditions of our roads for quite a long time.

4 Swag

Average product quality
Country: Germany
Average price: 680 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.4

One of the few companies that has retained its factory capacity from moving to China, which also deals with the packaging of spare parts. A feature of the manufacturer is the constant expansion of the range in accordance with market requirements. As for the quality, it is at a confident average level, not exceeding the characteristics of the original parts of many foreign cars.

At the same time, by choosing the front SWAG stabilizer struts for domestic cars (Lada Vesta, Granta, Largus and other modern models), the user receives a product that "nurses" at the level of the original. Given the affordable cost, it is safe to say that the spare parts of this company are worth their money.

3 Febi

Best market coverage. Most underrated company
Country: Germany
Average price: 620 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.5

Despite its extensive track record and the manufacture of parts for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Opel, the Febi brand receives mixed user reviews. In general, the attitude towards the company looks like a biased one and lasts from year to year, but we must admit that in terms of the manufacture of stabilizer struts, things are not so sad. It is possible that the current situation is the influence of the general condition of domestic roads, since spare parts are in great demand in the homeland of Febi (Germany).

In favor of the stabilizer struts from this brand is the fact that the company has retained its facilities in Germany and continues to use high quality raw materials in the production. At the same time, the budgetary cost gives the product significant advantages in the market. However, there is another side of the coin - the presence in the sale of a certain share of counterfeit, which is sold under the guise of products of this brand and damages the reputation of the company.

2 Optimal

Best value
The country: Germany (made in China)
Average price: 500 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.6

Another representative of Germany in the car parts market. Like the aforementioned Febi, Optimal has rather conflicting user reviews, with a preponderance towards the "plus". If in the case of "Febi" it is impossible to say unequivocally what is the reason for such harsh statements on the part of domestic motorists, then this company has the main problem in the spread of enterprises. The Polish and German branches produce high-quality stabilizer struts, while China "drives" not the best products to the market.

To top it all off, there is an increasing amount of talk on the internet that Optimal has turned into a packer and has stopped producing its own parts. Stabilizer struts of this brand are available for many car brands (Citroen, Chevrolet, Fiat and others). At the same time, the quality is at the same level as the price, without exceeding the original product in terms of its resource. Despite the defect occurring, Optimal spare parts are in demand on the market because of their price.

1 RTS

High degree of reliability
Country: Spain
Average price: 530 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.8

The Spanish auto parts manufacturer equips the market with very high quality stabilizer struts. All production work takes place on the territory of the EU, from where spare parts are supplied to the Russian market. It is not always possible to say that the quality is at its best. Sometimes (and this is some kind of collapse) racks come with torn anthers, and this is not the merit of careless transportation. It feels like controlling the quality of the batch at the exit is completely excluded from the production process. Fortunately, only rubber parts suffer, because there are no complaints about the gland.

To summarize, we can confidently talk about the good quality of the product. The stabilizer racks of this brand have practically no fakes in the domestic market. When choosing, you should pay attention to the condition of the anthers - sometimes there are deviations in quality when they are pressed in. Otherwise, the spare parts are quite reliable and can easily last longer than the original.

The best stabilizer struts in the middle price segment

There are many more companies in this segment, whose spare parts are distinguished by the best reliability and long service life.

5 Fenox

The most reliable supplier in the CIS market
The country: Belarus (produced in Germany, Russia)
Average price: 349 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.5

One of the best brands in the post-Soviet space was initially focused on the market of the CIS countries. The front shock absorber struts are one of the high quality products on the thousands of parts list. From the offered assortment, you can find and supply a number of parts for popular cars in Russia, such as Lada Vesta, Largus or Renault models (Sandero, Logan and Duster).

The high quality of the products can be additionally indicated by the fact that the production has passed certification in accordance with the standards of the European Union. In addition, the current contracts for the supply of spare parts to service centers (located in 50 countries of the world) for the maintenance of prestigious European car brands do not give rise to doubts about the reliability of Fenox.

4 MAPCO

High performance
Country: Germany
Average price: 664 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.7

This German brand appeared relatively recently on the domestic spare parts market, but managed to gain popularity among buyers. This company is not a packer, but a manufacturer, and its spare parts meet the high requirements of the European market, which is more selective for quality products.

Putting the front MAPCO stabilizer struts on the car (suitable for a wide model range, including Lada Vesta) means ensuring that there are no problems in this unit for at least 20 thousand mileage, and this is despite the quality of the roads. The HPS series of stabilizer struts has been released specifically for harsh conditions, which is more resistant to wear and will last much longer. The growing popularity of the products of this company attracts not only buyers - there are counterfeits on the market that harm the brand image, and also cause material damage. As a rule, counterfeiting makes itself felt during the first weeks of operation, so the choice of suppliers should be considered more carefully.

3 Delphi

The best ratio of price and quality
Country: USA
Average price: 815 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

The only representative of the middle segment of the top three, not mired in the abyss of endless proceedings to curtail production. The American concern works conscientiously - among the consumers of spare parts for "hodovka" on an official contract basis, the well-known German brand Opel (Opel). In terms of the quality of the stabilizer struts, the company is among the strong middle peasants (as well as in terms of price). It is difficult to say about the working life - it all depends not only on the condition of the roads, the characteristics of cars and driving style, but also on the correct operation of other parts of the chassis.

Advantages and features:

  • has a contract for the supply of parts for Opel cars;
  • users note the good quality of the products;
  • the cost is within the normal range for the middle segment.

Flaws:

  • absent.

2 Sidem

Large assortment of supported car models
Country: Belgium
Average price: 750 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

The stabilizer struts from a European manufacturer are among the highest quality in their segment. Almost 90% of the products are manufactured by the company itself, the remaining 10% are shipped by lesser-known companies (but the quality is also good) under the Sidem brand. Real car enthusiasts tend to choose racks from this particular manufacturer, while prudent automans are much more attracted by inexpensive (and lower quality) racks from other companies.

Tellingly, because of the meager demand, spare parts are not counterfeited - front companies are simply not interested in this. The range of car models for which the company's products are suitable makes it very popular on the European market, which cannot be said about Russia. Own production, which has established a serious control of the technological process, prevents defects from falling into the hands of the consumer. The front anti-roll bars of this brand are distinguished by great endurance, comparable to original spare parts for such cars as Skoda Octavia or Ford Focus.

1 CTR

Optimum product quality
Country: Korea
Average price: 690 rubles.
Rating (2019): 5.0

Korean manufacturer supplying aftermarket parts for Kia and Hyundai. It specializes only in suspension, so there is no need to worry about the quality of the stabilizer struts purchased. Ironically, the CTR doesn't have much of an issue with counterfeits, so finding the original isn't hard. In addition to the release of spare parts under their own label, they are actively shipped to packing companies (the same Lemforder). They have a brilliant reputation among users and an attractive price.

Advantages and features:

  • an active aftermarket supplier of anti-roll bars for Kia and Hyundai;
  • gives not always complete, but accurate information about spare parts;
  • some of the manufactured products are shipped to other firms;
  • racks are optimal in cost;
  • fakes are extremely rare.

Flaws:

  • not detected.

The best premium stabilizer struts

5 ABS

Long service life
Country: Netherlands
Average price: 675 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.7

The range of this leading European company for the manufacture of spare parts for car suspension numbers about 30 thousand items. Specializing mainly in the production of consumables for braking systems, ABS has gained great popularity in the markets of different countries. Since 2005, it has been significantly expanded the lineup and, among other things, stabilizer struts appeared for many cars, including Russian brands (Lada Vesta, Largus, etc.).

Everything that comes off the assembly line of the factories of this brand meets the stringent requirements of ISO 9001 in quality. The manufacturer uses only the best raw materials, which determine the high wear resistance and durability of parts. All ABS components have factory markings and high-quality packaging, which allows, with due care, to distinguish original spare parts from counterfeit ones - it is she who has a long service life.

4 MOOG

High strength
Country: USA
Average price: 897 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.7

The largest manufacturer of spare parts for car suspension is distinguished by the reliability of products and the absence of defects due to the modern quality control system. The premium segment attracts unscrupulous dealers who pass off counterfeit goods as branded goods, although the external characteristics of the original units are at a high level, which is easy to distinguish with the naked eye.

Assembly lines from brands such as GE and FORD use MOOG components in the initial assembly, so there is no reason to doubt the quality of the product. In addition, the parts of this company can be supplied to many domestic cars - the resource of spare parts will be noticeably higher than the original components. The front stabilizer struts for Lada Vesta (catalog number KILS8342) are neat and will serve their owner an order of magnitude longer than competing counterparts.

3 Lemforder

The most common spare parts
Country: Germany
Average price: 1660 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

The once great company for the production of auto parts (and stabilizer struts as well) is now showing how the "sturdy" man from production is living out his life. Even seven years ago, it was simply impossible to imagine that Lemforder would retrain into a packing company. Now this should be taken for granted, but it should also be paid respect - in the original packaging under the Lemforder label, leveling stabilizers from the Korean CTR are distributed. Ultimately, we are faced with a brand with a brilliant past, which now demonstrates the miracles of marketing and is confidently keeping afloat.

Advantages and features:

  • under the brand of this company, you can find no less cool stabilizer struts from CTR (currently);
  • the original racks were, in fact, the work of the Boge company
  • the firm is part of a group of five companies;
  • the originality of the details can be revealed already by looking at the packaging box;
  • spare parts cover three market segments (based on their price level).

Flaws:

  • if you do not go into the little things, then there are no shortcomings.

2 TRW

The best quality
Country: USA
Average price: 1500 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

A giant in the production of parts for a wide market, since it affects both the aerospace and military industries. Has valid contracts with several car manufacturers for the supply and production of a large range of products. When it comes to undercarriage parts, products rarely make it to the aftermarket. Finding the original TRW stabilizer struts anywhere in the stalls is tricky, although well worth it. Most of them are shipped to the warehouses of official dealers or go straight to the conveyor.

Only restored parts or gross counterfeits, crumbling at the very beginning of use, reach the secondary market. But it is possible to identify a fake, and first of all, you should carefully choose a supplier - if an official representative values his image (and this is very easy to notice), then the stabilizer struts from TRW will be exclusively of original origin. Despite the high popularity and excellent quality, the price of the products is quite democratic, which was noted by the consumer.

1 Ruville

The optimum ratio of price and quality
Country: Germany
Average price: 1000 rubles.
Rating (2019): 4.9

A clean packer who values his own reputation. The stabilizer struts, as well as other parts (with the exception of body parts and electronics), differ exclusively high quality and resource. Since other companies are engaged in the production, it makes no sense to list the supported car models. Another important advantage is always accurate and up-to-date information on the applicability of a particular rack, since the number of models is very large. If it were not for the high price, some of which is charged simply for the "brand", then the company could be called the best in its class.

Advantages and features:

  • high quality of the supplied racks;
  • cooperation with top manufacturers of auto parts;
  • supply of parts for a wide range of car models.

Flaws:

  • overpriced.

The stabilizer struts provide the link between the stabilizer bar and the centerpiece of the suspension, the travel arm. Performing the task of a lever, the rods move symmetrically to each other. Few people know about this system, and how it works, but in order to find out, you can read this short article. In order to drive a serviceable car, all elements need to be serviced on time. How much this or that traction will travel, it is impossible to calculate specifically for your car.

Device

It's no secret that the car rolls in the opposite direction of the turn when driving in a corner, and in order to make this roll not so noticeable on the handling of the car, a stabilizer was developed. During intensive rotation of the steering wheel at high speed, you can overturn the car. To prevent this from happening, engineers have come up with an active stabilization system.

The stabilizer is a beam that is connected to the levers, most often the front ones, as well as to the body, through special bushings. Most often, such a system is installed on an independent suspension.

The principle of operation of the rack is based on shifting the required amount of load from one side to the other.

It happens like this. When a vehicle load (roll) is applied to the inner wheel, the stabilizer struts distribute the right amount of load to both wheels so that you can maintain control when cornering at high speeds and hold the vehicle. This system is necessary in long corners on the highway where the flow rate is high. No one will give an answer to the question of how much these parts go.

As with all systems, stabilizer struts also have their drawbacks.

The main disadvantage of the rack is that if you drive, this system puts pressure on the wheels, which at any time can lose traction. But this only applies to SUVs. Therefore, a system is installed on SUVs with which you can turn off the stabilization of the car and drive as much as necessary.

This is because each vehicle has its own anti-roll bar, which has a specific thickness and shape. If the diameter of the stabilizer is exceeded, the independent suspension will become dependent. Because of this, during a ride, what will be felt by one wheel will also be felt by the second, which means a complete lack of comfort and stability.

In almost all cases, the stabilizer struts are installed on the front axle of the wheels, because the rear axle is most often dependent and independently copes with the stabilizer function. If the front independent suspension install a powerful stabilizer, the suspension loses all independent qualities and becomes a bridge.

In order to understand the principle of operation of this system, it is required to consider the diagram in more detail. In order to find the scheme, you need to enter the corresponding query in the search box. The whole process is performed by a bracket, which is attached to the body or subframe of the car with special bolts. This bracket presses the bushings together with the stabilizer body and does not allow them to rotate freely.

Here the stabilizer struts are an important part of the overall system. The wheel damper is the fulcrum for the entire system. The principle of operation is based on the fact that the shock absorber is compressed when the machine is tilted to one side, and gives movement to the stabilizer bar, which in turn lowers and transfers the power load to the other side through the stabilizer.

There were cases when the stabilizer bar broke off right on the move, and the driver did not feel the difference in control. Some cars are not equipped with a stabilizer at all. lateral stability... As a rule, these are city cars.

Varieties

There are many stabilizer links available. Basically, they differ according to the make of the car. Each machine has its own type of traction.

  • There are rods that are completely symmetrical and can be installed on either side of the vehicle.
  • There are also various rods that can be set independently of the side.
  • There are also those that are completely different from each other, such are designed specifically for one side. Such rods are most often installed on cars on which other devices and units are installed in that area, which happens extremely rarely.

There are varieties of materials for the manufacture of silent blocks and stabilizer rod bushings. There are standard rods, and there are polyurethane stabilizer struts. Standard ones are most often made of ordinary rubber, and the latter are made of polyurethane.

Drivers claim that polyurethane is better than rubber based on the fact that it is rated for more mileage. In fact, this is the case. An ordinary rubber bushing and silent block go no more than 10 thousand kilometers, and at this time the silent blocks and polyurethane bushings do not even show signs of wear. Despite the fact that this material, although more expensive, is still in demand. This happens because it is better to change a part once every 15-20 thousand kilometers than to change 2 or 3 parts during the same period.

How many kilometers your traction will travel, no one can say, it all depends on what style of driving. How many kilometers a given part travels depends on how to drive a car.

The rods are divided according to the shape of the tip and the presence of the tip boot. No, of course, it is spherical everywhere, only it is welded to the rod at different angles. In order to protect the system from various dirt that may get into it, the handpieces are equipped with special handpiece anthers. Although it is a rare defect in the stabilizer link end, it should not be swept aside. Most often this happens precisely because of the damaged anther. The boot can be damaged not only during operation, but also during installation. It is worth noting that if the tip boot is damaged, the boot does not change separately, so you either have to repair it somehow or buy a new rod.

Also, in order to get rid of excess suspension noise, it is worth changing the silent blocks in time, which directly affect the noise of the system. In order to replace the silent blocks, you need to purchase them and carry out a number of procedures. In fact, the process of replacing silent blocks is not laborious, and silent blocks are not expensive, so there should be no problems with this.

It is the stabilizer bushings that can produce an unpleasant knock from the suspension. Indeed, due to the fact that the bushings are worn out, the body of the stabilizer, when rotating, transmits all sounds to the body.

It is worth noting that the rear links never differ in shape, unlike the front ones. The fact is that at the back there are no certain features in any car. Therefore, the rear links can be installed without hesitation on either side.

The front ones will be more difficult, but not by much. Before installation, you just need to see what kind of thrust and to which side it belongs, after which you can engage in installation. Also, if the part is out of place, it is better to determine this during installation.

Completion

Having learned about how the vehicle stabilization system is arranged, and what it is for, we can conclude that it helps to drive the car in difficult situations on the road. You can learn in detail from the article about what kind of struts and stabilizer bushings are, and how the entire vehicle stabilization system works. For a more visual study, you can use the diagrams that are on the Internet. To consider in more detail and understand for yourself how it works, you can only with the help of a visual drawing. In order to appreciate the seriousness of this system, you need to study all the components, from the boot, tip, ending with the thrust body.

All the features of the stabilizer legs and their weak spots.

Good day, dear friends, now we will analyze which stabilizer struts are better to buy, how much they should work and what weaknesses they have. Let's take for example such cars as Hyundai / KIA Suzuki Chery and compare the quality of racks from different manufacturers:

1. GMB (Japan)

2. CTR (South Korea).

3. Lemforder (Germany).

4. Sidem (Belgium).

5. Zekkert (Germany)

6. Links Master (Russia, Tver).

So, in two different stands under the Lemforder brand, in one case, there were South Korean CTR stands, and in the other - Taiwanese ones with the "L" logo. It is immediately clear thatLemforder is only a packer for these vehicles and does not produce itself. Prices for imported parts for March 2016 are in the range of $ 7-11 per piece, domestic racks are a little cheaper, about $ 4-5, now we will figure out whether it is worth overpaying for imports. Preliminary conclusion—all imported racks are neat, while the domestic product is made more sloppy, wthe arms of all racks move smoothly, without jamming, better for CTR, Lemforder, GMB and Sidem, slightly worse for Zekkert and Links Master, but this is not critical, because the hinges are still new and have not been developed yet.

1. GMB (Japan). A well-known company that makes parts related to suspension, steering, water pumps. Those. hinges and bearings - its profile. The racks, as expected, turned out to be very neatly made, and for some reason the kit included a bag of grease.

2. Lemforder- inside CTR (South Korea).The package under the Lemforder brand included the racks of the South Korean company CTR andwe will assume that the CTR rack was purchased for the test. The company has already been tested over the years, the stand is also very neat, and besides, it has the smoothest ball pin stroke of all samples.

3. Lemforder-L (Taiwan).The stand itself has a logo in the form of an L inscribed in a triangle. What kind of company is not known,from here a simple conclusion in a package with the Lemforder brand can be anything,but there are no complaints about the product itself, everything is done carefully. The ball pin travels smoothly.

4. Links Master (Russia, Tver).A rare example of a purely domestic part for a foreign-made suspension. Judging by their appearance, these racks were really not made to order abroad, but in Russia. Moreover, the company makes only racks and nothing more. On the manufacturer's website, a lot is written about the super-design and super-materials from which these racks are made .. But their appearance is completely unprepossessing, against the background of imported competitors. The ball pin does not dangle, but as if it is loose, the stroke is noticeably easier than that of imported racks.

5. Sidem (Belgium). The firm specializes in suspension and steering parts, has a respectable history and is based in Europe. This brand is not particularly well known, but, as they say, "is widely known in narrow circles." I have seen a package of two types of design, perhaps recently rebranding. The racks are neat, no complaints. The ball finger travel is soft.

6. Zekkert (Germany).Of the six purchased samples, only Zekkert had protective transport plastic caps installed on the anthers, and the racks themselves were neatly made. Also from other samples they are distinguished by a "two-level" connecting rod and the use of white lithium grease, other companies have a transparent grease. In general, the impression was favorable, but we will draw final conclusions later.

Changing these details once again, each of us thought,Why do some hinges serve many tens of thousands of kilometers, while others barely reach the first ten thousand kilometers?The design is about the same for everyone, so are the materials. So let's figure out what and how and why?

At the stabilizer struts, the lower hinges are the first to fail.The upper hinge is still alive, and the lower one is already knocking. Their loads are about the same, and it is the lower ones that are the first to fail.

Steering ends fail much less frequently than stabilizer struts,although their working conditions are also not easy, and the dimensions of the hinges are approximately the same. T So what's the matter? Popular experience says that "the anther is alive - the joint is also alive."When buying high-quality suspension parts, mostly original ones, with anthers made of good rubber, and you rarely see a torn boot.All anthers are intact, outwardly everything is fine, but the hinge still knocks!

Could it be the shock loads breaking the hinge? But removing the boot from the knocking hinge, we see a completely different picture -the hinge does not die from shock, but from corrosion and abrasion caused by water and road dirt.

Isn't it strange? The boot is intact, and the hinge is rusty. But as they say, the reason lies in the little things!The answer came, as always, by chance. Above we have comparedracks of six different firms, 5 imported and 1 domestic. About the domestic rack is a separate topic, butall 5 imported racks were made quite high quality, frank hack was not observed.Checking the smoothness of the ball pin at different racks, I found a big difference in the tightness of the connection of the boot with the ball pin at racks of different companies. When the finger was deviated from the vertical, the hinge remained sealed in some struts, while in others a gap appeared, through which water and sand enter the hinge!

I think this is the reason.And this, by the way, explains the fact that the lower hinge is the first to fail, it is closer to the road, and the first to take over all the road dirt. For example, a wheel falls into a hole, the hinge pin tilts, and dirt is sucked under the boot through the gap formed.I also see this as the reason that the steering tips go longer than the stabilizer struts.First, the steering lugs are usually located higher off the road than the stabilizer struts. Secondly, they usually face downward, i.e. water accumulation in the hinge is more difficult. At the racks, the hinge is located horizontally and the trapped water remains in the boot. Thirdly, at the steering tips the hinge pin is usually tapered and without a shoulder, so the boot is additionally compressed by the steering knuckle landing plane and does not allow water to pass through.Of the SIX struts, only TWO ensure the hinge tightness!Photos are ranked from worst to best. Eventuallymy choice is Sidem and Lemforder racks, the rest will sooner or later take water and die, some faster, others a little later. Moreover, the Lemforder is not made in Korea by CTR, but Taiwanese, with a logo in the form of the letter L in a triangle. The absolute outsiders are Zekkert racks. And this despite the fact that all imported racks are made soundly!

A suspension stabilization system is essential in any car. Moreover, such a system should be in the front and rear suspension. Another thing is how it is constructively executed.

An anti-roll bar is used in passenger cars. On the front suspension, his presence is mandatory. It is difficult to remember a car brand where the stabilizer was not installed.

But on the rear suspension there may be different options, in particular, on old domestic car models. For example, in the VAZ classics, the role of a stabilizer is played by jet thrust. On the Volga, the rear suspension is a sprung rear axle, the stabilizer as such appeared only on the GAZ-31105. But now the production of "Volga" has stopped.

The anti-roll bar of a passenger car is a long and straight iron bar with rounded edges. Its length is usually slightly less than the width of the car itself. There are lugs on both sides of the rod for attaching the stabilizer struts. In turn, the stabilizer struts are connected with their other side to the steering knuckles (on the front suspension). The stabilizer is usually attached to the front beam with two clamps through rubber bushings. The rod is made of high strength springy steel. By itself, it is very durable, as it works under heavy loads.

What is the anti-roll bar for?

The word "stabilizer" speaks for itself. Due to the stabilizer, the car feels confident and stable on the road, it does not shake from side to side. Especially the importance of the iron rod increases when the car moves on sharp turns at high speed, when there is a risk of flying off the road and even turning over. Of course, the stabilizer is not the part without which it is generally impossible to get under way, but driving without it is quite problematic.

Stabilizer's pole

The stabilizer struts play a role in the stable movement of the car on the road, no less than the stabilizer itself. Without them, an iron rod like zero without a wand means nothing. Therefore, malfunctions of the struts also have a detrimental effect on traffic safety.

The stabilizer stand can be structurally made in different ways. The most common type is a thin rod with two hinges at the ends, it looks like a steering rod. You can often hear the expressions: stabilizer rod, stabilizer bracket, stabilizer bone, but the essence remains the same. We are talking about the same device. If we return to the same "Classics", then on the front suspension it has struts of a slightly different shape. There are no hinges - a simple stem with threads at both ends. The role of the hinges is played by rubber bushings. On some foreign cars, the stabilizer struts with hinges are made of plastic. True, the plastic is very durable.

Like steering tips, stabilizer struts can be symmetrical or unbalanced. Asymmetrical racks are only suitable for their side. That is, the left stabilizer link will only fit on the left side, and the right link will only fit on the right side.

Stabilizer struts malfunction

There are characteristic signs in the behavior of the car on the road, according to which it can be assumed that the stabilizer struts are faulty:

  • - the car is unstable when driving, especially on sharp turns,
  • - the car shakes when steering wheel turns,
  • - when passing uneven sections of the road, a knock is heard in the suspension,
  • - the car is pulled to the side if you release the steering wheel.

The shock absorber struts can become unusable for several reasons. Racks are considered consumables, they must be changed after a certain number of kilometers traveled - approximately after 20 thousand. These parts carry a high load and are subject to rapid natural wear and tear.

The stabilizer struts fail due to the poor condition of the roads, from colliding with an obstacle and from impacts.

If you suspect that the stabilizer rods are faulty, they can be easily checked in three simple ways. In general, in this case we are talking about the front stabilizer struts.

1. At the car, you need to unscrew the wheels to the stop in any direction. Grasping the stabilizer bar with your hand, pull it firmly. Even if a small backlash is determined, the part must be replaced - under load when moving, the backlash will be more noticeable.

2. From either side, the stabilizer bar is disconnected (for example, from the steering knuckle), it is not necessary to completely remove it. Turning the part from side to side, we check for backlash and free rotation. The more wear on the part, the easier the rotation is given. To check the second strut, just rock the car vertically. A bad stance will make a knock. For such an inspection, an inspection pit will be needed.

3. In this case, too, you cannot do without a pit, and you need two people - one behind the wheel, the other in the pit. Someone behind the wheel gets under way on the car back and forth, someone below - puts his hand to the stabilizer bar. At the moment of starting the car, a blow will be felt in the hand. Inspectors should be careful to avoid injury.

In order to distribute the level of kinetic effect on the suspension, and not to subject only its individual elements to special loads, stabilizer struts and bushings are used in any car. Read on to find out how to check the stabilizer struts, as well as how to properly maintain the stabilizer struts and bushings.

To get to the stabilizer struts, you will have to remove the wheel. The stabilizer struts, as a rule, are located in different axes of the machine, on both axles, and in good condition increase the stability of the vehicle (especially when making any maneuvers). Simply put, it is this complex design that prevents full roll during a turn, or lateral roll in the event of a rollover. It is the link between the anti-roll bar and the anti-roll bar.

By themselves, these parts are not too expensive, but their functional significance for the car is extremely high. V technically, these constructions are not "fastidious" to constant courting and are easily amenable to preventive action. However, malfunctions that have arisen, even of a small scale, can bring many problems to drivers. It is important to suppress any malfunctions associated with racks at the initial stage of occurrence in order to prevent emergencies.

How to check the stabilizer struts

From the popular poem by Karamzin, we remember that "nothing lasts forever", including the stabilizer struts. Like any other detail, their design is subject to the destructive action of time mixed with external factors. The more off-road, the worse the quality and the more time spent on overcoming roads, the faster the stabilizer struts wear out and deteriorate. A reasonable question arises "How to check the stabilizer struts?" And how can a person do this without an impressive baggage of knowledge in mechanics, or rich experience in vehicle repair?

It should be remembered that a basic check of the condition of the stabilizer struts and bushings is carried out during the annual Maintenance Vehicle. Experienced mechanics know where, what and how to look for high-quality diagnostics. In case you have doubts about such a service, or you have encountered problems and want to make sure that they are there, you can use a very easy and independent express check of the stabilizer struts (if you do not know how to check the stabilizer bushings, this method is also perfect ).

First you need to remove the wheel. When the wheel arch is free, to get to the rack, it is necessary to make the maximum turn of the steering wheel to either side. "Bare" rack, take your hand in the middle third and swing from side to side. If there is a problem, there will be looseness and "backlash".

The main possible malfunctions of the stabilizer struts

We have already figured out the possible type of diagnostic measures that can help us identify a malfunction before an unforeseen emergency occurs. But what situations can arise, and what are the most important signs of malfunction of the stabilizer struts awaiting us during trips. The most important are considered to be:

  • instability and roll of the car (especially when making sharp maneuvers);
  • the car sways at the slightest turns of the steering wheel;
  • on an uneven road surface, a sound is heard in the suspension;
  • dodging the car with the steering wheel down;
  • "Yaw" cars, when braking.

If you have at least one of these conditions, do not delay with the express diagnostics, which we described just above. If you are convinced that the struts or bushings are damaged, and when checking, you observe their backlash or swaying, such parts must be replaced with serviceable ones. After all, the struts and bushings are considered "consumables", which means that you should be smart about their timely replacement.

Stabilizer Strut Prevention

Depending on the car model, the stabilization system may differ in structure and components of its design. Some, in the presence of the first errors in work (creak, slight backlash), are taken to extend the service of existing consumables. To find out how to lubricate the stabilizer struts, you should ask the support of the manufacturer of your car, since this data is individual for each model. Typically, home repair technicians use a silicone-based lubricant to improve the stability of the stabilizer bushings.
