Robotic gearbox Ford Focus 3. What kind of gearbox is on the Ford Focus III generation

When starting to adapt Ford Focus automatic transmission control units, you need to clearly understand the meaning of the terms and the capabilities of the Powershift box. The automatic transmission has three functions: calibrating the gear selector position sensor, the shift mechanism and the clutch system. Of these three functions, only the first refers to classical calibration, but the other two imply the ability to learn, that is, to adapt during special driving conditions (without software flashing). There are also nuances of adaptation to new car and already having some mileage.

This article will talk about adapting the Ford Focus 3 automatic transmission control units according to the manufacturer's instructions, as well as resetting PowerShift.

Indications - exercises are performed on a dry surface.

On the spot

  1. Turn on the ignition.
  2. Smoothly depress the brake pedal.
  3. Switch to Drive.
  4. Wait 15 s.
  5. Transfer to the Reverse position.
  6. Wait 2 s.
  7. We repeat the “In place” exercise 10 times (steps 1 to 5).

In move. Exercise 1.

  1. Accelerate from a standstill to 24 km/h, without pressing hard on the gas.
  2. We brake until the car stops within 6-7 seconds.
  3. Repeat exercise 1 5 times.

In move. Exercise 2.

  1. Smoothly pick up speed within 1800-2000 rpm. Shift gears in the order 1-2, 2-3, 3-4.
  2. Reach the speed range of 81 km/h -105 km/h, manually shift to 6th gear. We maintain the rpm level at least 3000 for 2 minutes.
  3. Repeat the exercise 1 more time.

Recommendations from the Ford Focus manufacturer for operating the PowerShift automatic transmission.

In positions R, D, S, you cannot press the foot brake for more than 40 seconds. If it is necessary for the engine to remain on, move the lever to N/P. Don't forget to raise the handbrake.
With S, the +/- button cannot be held down.

It is prohibited to tow a faulty car with the rocker in position R. For transportation, you must move the lever to the neutral position and adhere to a speed limit of no more than 20 km/h for a distance of up to 20 km.

Automatic transmission software reset

The procedure is performed using specialized programs. For example, VAS PC19 or VAG COM.

Open the AKKP group, Adaptation mode. Select item 1, enter 1 and all values are reset to zero. After this, you need to perform adaptation exercises similar to those described at the beginning of the article.

Exercise 1

  1. We move off smoothly and accelerate up to 4th gear, without jerking.
  2. We continue to accelerate to 6th gear.
  3. Then we brake with the engine (without using the brake pedal), reducing the speed to 40 km/h. We brake smoothly until the car stops.
  4. Without turning off the engine, keep your foot on the brake pedal for 10 seconds.
  5. Repeat 10 times.

Exercise 2

  1. We set off and accelerate the car to 70 km/h. Manually shift to 5th gear.
  2. We smoothly accelerate to 90 km/h and reduce the engine speed to 60 km/h (we repeat this segment 5 times).
  3. We accelerate to 85 km/h and manually shift into 6th gear.
  4. We accelerate to a speed of 100 km/h, slow down with the engine to 75 km/h (we repeat the segment 5 times).
  5. Engage 4th gear manually.
  6. Repeat exercise 2 6 times.

Exercise 3

  1. On Idling at standing car We switch from N to D, from N to R 5 times. In this case, the selector is in the drive and park positions for at least 5 seconds.

If after the procedures the car twitches slightly, this is a normal reaction that will pass over time. If the twitching persists, the help of a specialized service station is required (diagnostics on a bench).

By car Ford Focus 3, mechanical, automatic and robotic gearboxes are installed, so every car enthusiast can choose what he likes. But today we will talk in more detail about the automatic transmission on this popular vehicle. The Ford Focus 3 automatic is more expensive than its counterpart with a manual transmission, but many are willing to pay for comfort. Let's find out whether this choice is justified.

What kind of automatic machine is installed on Ford Focus 3

The 3rd generation of Ford cars does not please with the rich choice of equipment for cars with automatic transmission. This transmission is only available with the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Fans of others power units you will have to choose the not very reliable PowerShift robot or conventional mechanics.

The 3rd generation Focus is equipped with a 6F35 automatic transmission. This is Ford's own development in collaboration with General concern Motors, which was based on the 6T30/6T40 automatic transmission, which was unsuccessful in all respects. The manufacturer has worked hard to eliminate the shortcomings of this transmission and released its 6-speed automatic, which has already been successfully used on Mondeo, Escape, Fusion and Kuga models. Owner reviews of this box are quite good, so the manufacturer decided to use it on the Focus.

Automatic transmission characteristics

The 6F35 is a classic six-speed automatic with a torque converter. This box is suitable for engines up to 3 liters, can be paired with both front and rear all-wheel drive. Maximum torque - 350 Nm.

This transmission is far from new; it has been produced since 2008, so at the moment there is enough information about its reliability, features and typical breakdowns.

The resource of the box specified by the manufacturer is 250 thousand km. If you follow the operating rules and timely maintenance, this is a real figure. But practice shows that the automatic machine is sensitive to conditions of use and driving style, so many drivers encounter serious malfunctions earlier.

This unit has been installed on Ford Focus cars since 2010. But the 3rd generation is the last with such a box. The next version is planned to be equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Weaknesses of the Ford Focus 3 automatic transmission

Of course, the 6F35 is more reliable than its predecessor, since the manufacturer carefully analyzed all the common problems of the prototype and eliminated them, but Ford's 6-speed transmission does have its shortcomings.

One of typical problems The problem that car enthusiasts turn to for service is the wear of the gearbox housing, or more precisely, the differential bearing seat. At its location, a strong wear-out of the housing metal is visible; as a result, the bearing is poorly fixed, begins to vibrate and eventually falls apart. It often happens that bearing fragments damage other elements of the box. The global solution to this problem is to replace the box body. If the excavation is small, you can get by using a special pad for the seat.

The solenoids in the 6F35 are exactly the same as those in the 6T30/6T40 prototype box. So they still remain weak point this unit. Electromechanical valves are clogged with metal shavings that are formed during the production of parts, so untimely oil changes and aggressive driving can cause premature failure. In some cases, solenoids can be restored, but in difficult cases they are replaced.

There are often problems with the firmware. In this case, in the absence of mechanical problems, the box “kicks” and jerks. The jerks are especially noticeable in Drive mode. Of course, this is an unpleasant situation, but it can be easily resolved: just re-flash it from an official dealer.

Like any automatic machine, the 6F35 does not like slipping. This transmission is designed for measured driving. If you're stuck in a snowdrift or off-road and try to get out on your own, there's a good chance the transmission will go into limp mode or fail altogether. Usually, after significant slipping, the box begins to “kick”, shifts gears poorly or refuses to work at all. In this case, the clutch pack usually suffers. If something goes wrong with them, the box will have to be disassembled and damaged parts replaced.

6F35 and oil change

Every owner of a Ford Focus 3 automatic should know that this automatic transmission is very sensitive to the quality of transmission oil. If you fill in something bad or don’t replace it on time, you can prepare for trouble.

The manufacturer recommends using transmission oil Motorcraft XT-10-QLVC. Its volume in the box is 8.5 liters. The official recommendation for changing the oil and filter is every 75 thousand miles, but the experience of auto mechanics shows that this is not enough. Already at 40-45 thousand, the transmission fluid darkens and a large amount of metal shavings is found in it. This is why experts recommend changing the oil every 45,000 kilometers, at least partially.

What happens if you don't change the oil on time? It contains a suspension of metal shavings resulting from the natural production of parts. The chips are not completely retained by the filter and magnet. Getting into the solenoids and torque converter, it disables these important components, the replacement of which is quite expensive.

Wear products are especially active when slipping or when driving aggressively. If you get stuck in snow or mud, and the transmission has passed this test, it is better to carry out an unscheduled oil change before a serious problem occurs.

Should you change the oil yourself? If you have a garage with a pit or a lift, as well as a set of tools, you can try it; there is nothing complicated in this procedure. In other cases, it’s easier to contact the service. Buy oil only from official dealers, otherwise there is a high risk of becoming a victim of a hack and spending a lot of money on automatic transmission repairs. The cost of troubleshooting is much higher than the cost original oil, so you shouldn’t skimp on it.

Reviews from owners of Ford Focus 3 automatic

What do owners of Ford Focus hatchback, station wagon and sedan think about automatic transmission? How satisfied are they with their choice?

6F35 - far from it new model Automatic transmission, so if you compare it with modern transmissions, it will lose in many respects. But thanks to well-chosen gear ratios even six gears are enough for everyday driving.

Automatic Ford - no The best decision for lovers of fast driving and aggressive driving style, but the sport mode still allows you to experience good dynamics. Well, for daily movement around the city this automatic transmission is almost ideal.

Gear shifts smoothly, without delay, the moment of their change is practically not felt in the car interior. If there is jerking and dips when moving, in most cases flashing helps.

As for reliability, during the entire period of installation of 6F35 on Ford cars, there were no special complaints from owners. The machine is quite reliable and rarely presents unpleasant surprises to its owners, if, of course, they take care of their car.

The result is this: For those who want a reliable, predictable automatic for a quiet ride, the 6F35 is perfect. Despite the fact that the experience of using it on Ford cars The Focus3 generation is still very small; the gearbox has proven itself well on other Ford models. It can also be found on some Mazda and Lincoln cars.

The control unit with solenoids of the 6T30/6T40 automatic transmission is one of the weak points.

The primary function of the TCM is to collect and analyze incoming signals from sensors. Having processed all the signals, the TCM already controls the actuators.

The main functions of the TCM are shifting and clutch release. The TCM controls the clutch and gearshift system using four brushless DC motors with integrated hall sensors.

Operating principle of the PowerShift gearbox.

The PowerShift box uses a double dry clutch in combination with electromagnetic control in
This gearbox selects two gears simultaneously. In this case, one gear is engaged in driving mode,
the second one is already engaged, but due to the second clutch, which is open, it instantly passes to the next one
transfer. Depending on the position of the gas pedal and the driver's request, the clutch of the previously activated gear opens and at the same time the clutch of the previously selected gear closes. As a result of this clutch overlap when changing gears, the loss of traction force is minimal.

The selection of operating modes of the manual transmission is carried out by the selector lever of the operating modes of the robotic gearbox, which is installed on the floor between the front seats, connected to the manual transmission by a cable.

Double clutch - PowerShift (Focus 3, Ecosport, Fiesta).

1 - Clutch block.
2 - Double release bearing.
3 - Two electromechanical lever actuators.
4 - Two DC motors.

The clutches are equipped with an internal follow-up wear correction control. Thereby keeping the required stroke of the actuator within a narrow framework. The clutch has built-in torsional vibration dampers.

Did you know that the Ford Focus is the best-selling car in the world? Taking into account one nuance: Focus is called the same in all 140+ countries of the world, but the practice of most other manufacturers is different. For example, the Nissan Tiida in the States is called Versa, and the new generation Tiida in Europe is called Pulsar. In Russia, Focus ranks first in terms of the number of foreign cars in the all-Russian fleet (as of March 2015), with a slight lead from the number of Toyota Corolla cars.

At the presentation new Ford Focus of the fourth generation (or restyling of the third, according to other colleagues), we learned that Ford people have something to be proud of. The new Focus is equipped better than its direct competitors. Independent rear suspension as standard, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, heating windshield and steering wheel, an automatic braking system and blind spot monitoring, and several more options and amenities that new cars of the same class do not have (VW Jetta, Kia Ceed, Mazda 3 and others). And the cost of Focuses from dealers is lower at the lower and upper limits - 710,000-1,045,000 rubles without taking into account special offers. Minimum possible price for new Focus starts from 599,000 rubles including discounts.

Exterior
What has changed in the appearance of the car? The most noticeable change is the radiator grille, which has become trapezoidal in shape, in accordance with the new Ford design concept. Yes, the same notorious one a la Aston Martin. The headlights have become more elongated, and an LED strip has been added at the top. Active bi-xenon has 8 lighting modes depending on the speed of movement and weather conditions. The fog lights were round, now elongated into a rectangle. The hood has curves in the center. Thanks to all this, the car looks very interesting, especially in the rearview mirror.

The station wagon looks very harmonious, and I don’t want to use the word “barn” in relation to it.

And the hatch has a spectacular spoiler above the fifth door.

There are significantly fewer changes on the sides and rear. If you don’t pay attention to the little things, then from behind the fourth Focus can be indistinguishable from the third. Tail lights slightly narrowed, and the curves of the fifth door are different.

In the Style Titanium package they install on the car alloy wheels With Michelin tires 17 inches.

Interior and electronics
Having admired the car from the outside, we move into the interior. The changes here are more extensive. Now the panel in the middle is not glossy and does not protrude forward as much as on the third Focus. And the number of buttons has been greatly reduced.

The steering wheel and buttons on it have a different design, and an engine start button has appeared on the right. But at the same time, to open or close the doors from the outside, you still need to take the key out of your pocket/bag. The manufacturer decided to do without a full-fledged keyless entry system. It turned out that optionally you can install completely keyless access.

Touch screen on central panel increased up to 8 inches diagonally (from installed system SYNC2). The functionality of the system has been enriched: added hands-free communication with the phone via Bluetooth, voice control (with SMS reading in a synthesized voice), HERE navigation from Nokia with support for displaying traffic jams via radio channel, camera reverse. With all this wealth of functionality, there are big complaints about the touch screen. As far as I understand, the screen does not support multi-touch. And the sensitivity could be higher. These shortcomings are especially annoying when trying to work with the navigator, for example, when zooming and moving maps. Here you realize that there is an urgent need for a separate “iron” knob for smoothly changing the scale of maps (as on SKODAs, for example).

There were complaints from owners of the third Focus about the lack of knee space and the inconvenient location of the only cigarette lighter. Both problems are resolved. The handbrake lever was shortened, and part of the panel near the gearshift knob was narrowed. However, now another inconvenience has appeared: the door lock button has moved to the driver's door, now it is above the power window control buttons.
Dual-zone climate control can be controlled using two knobs. They change the temperature of each zone. But the blowing power must be changed using buttons, which are not so easy to find while moving. However, if you are satisfied with the logic of the climate control, then these buttons will not be needed.

To avoid inconvenience with charging gadgets, there are now 4 cigarette lighters in the car interior. FOUR, FRIEDRICH! One is in the usual place on the central tunnel, the second is in a niche under the armrest, the third is in the trunk, and the fourth, you won’t believe it, is on the dashboard under the windshield. Where else have you seen this? Using the top cigarette lighter, you can greatly reduce the length of wires from gadgets attached to the windshield area. And if this is not enough for you, then there are two more USB connectors that can be used both for reading information from a flash drive and for charging phones. There is also an SD slot, but it is occupied by a card with data for the navigation system.

The seats are quite comfortable, I didn’t feel tired after a long taxi. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable, and the passenger seat is manually adjustable. But in both front seats there is a lever that pushes the lumbar support forward.

Another complaint from the owners of the third Focus was related to the small rear visibility on the sedan. I think that the photo below will be the answer to the question “has something changed for the better here?”

In the new Focus, the view is slightly hampered by the body protruding forward above the interior rearview mirror. There, the designers placed many sensors, including lidar, which works in conjunction with an automatic braking system.

Eyeglass case, microphone for the system speakerphone, night light brightness control in the cabin and the color of this light:

The glove compartment is now made in such a way that you don’t have to go deep into things for things, they all “fall out” down when the door is opened:

In addition to the automatic braking system, which operates at speeds up to 50 km/h, the car can be equipped with an automatic parallel and perpendicular parking system. Additional parking sensors installed on the sides of the rear bumper allow you to get a picture of obstacles not only behind and in front, but also on the sides of the car. The same sensors can notify the driver of a car moving perpendicularly if they are reversing out of a parking space.
Trunk
The trunk volume of all three body types does not seem small. We tried to play with folding the seats on the hatchback. We discovered that the rear seat cushions can be removed and the backrests can be folded into a flat floor.

Above is the trunk of a station wagon, below is a hatchback:

Ride quality
And finally, about personal feelings while driving. The presentation focused on improved sound insulation. I didn’t have the opportunity to compare this parameter with the previous generation car, so I’ll just rate the noise insulation as a solid four. On the cracked asphalt, it seemed that the arches could have been covered even more.
We managed to try both engines: a one and a half liter EcoBoost with a power of 150 hp. and naturally aspirated 1.6 with 105 hp. So, EcoBoost is cool! Firstly, considerable power for such a small engine size. Secondly, the dynamics of acceleration, again, taking into account such a small displacement. And thirdly, the sound! I don’t know how the designers achieved such a rich roar of the engine at high speeds. When accelerating hard, the engine sounded like there was at least a large, heavy V8 under the hood. I would like to blindfold some car connoisseur, put him in the Focus cabin with EcoBoost and accelerate to his heart's content. And then listen to his versions on the volume and type of engine in the car.

Atmospheric 1.6 doesn't sound so interesting. And it doesn’t drive so much fun; for passable dynamics and overtaking you need to rev the engine to 5-6 thousand rpm. And with 4-5 people in the cabin and a full trunk, you will have to think many times before deciding to overtake.
In general, there are almost no questions about the car while driving. Automatic transmissions, both hydromechanical on EcoBoost, and the PowerShift robot on naturally aspirated 1.6, behave logically, quietly shifting gears exactly as the driver’s right foot dictates. Personally, I was completely satisfied with the suspension settings. The new Focus flew past the broken sections of roads in the Leningrad region effortlessly. And the 17th wheels seem to be created for this suspension. Having tried all three bodies on the go, I can add that the station wagon rides softer than the hatchback (apparently due to weight). On high-profile tires there will be even more comfort, but the reactions to the steering wheel will not be so rapid.
Summary
Concluding the review, I’m ready to say that the car turned out to be very successful. Focus has always been well adapted for Russian motorists. By replacing the engines with modern ones, Ford managed to retain the ability to fill in 92nd gasoline. It looks modern and nice. Independent rear suspension, even in the simplest configuration, is rare in this class. Heated windshield... how I miss this in winter in St. Petersburg! The shortcomings are quite tolerable. You can take it. Only I would neglect the navigation. It will be much more convenient on a smartphone or tablet than the one offered with SYNC2. Ford should think about starting to install more modern and powerful hardware in the Focus as a multimedia system.

Ford Focus 3 ads on auto.ru ...

Is it worth buying a Ford 3 automatic 2.-0. from the salon? How do you like these cars in general? | Topic author: Nikita

Valentin  Good afternoon! I've been driving the 3rd Focus for over a year now, the mileage today is 21,000. The engine is 1.6, the transmission is Tamara automatic.
I can tell you: Do not buy this car!! !
It is still possible with a manual transmission, but in no case is a robot, half of the cars have a mileage of 15-25 thousand km. The clutch block breaks. Steering rack rattles for many, wears out very quickly brake pads and disks Georgy. The crickets in the cabin multiply exponentially, on the track it feels like in the old nine.
Now for the good stuff: Excellent handling, Modern appearance, Artyom is quite comfortable in the driver’s seat.
And here's one more thing: Selling a car is quite difficult, since all these problems are already known on owner forums, and many are afraid to buy a Focus.
Ford's reputation has been greatly tarnished by this model, especially after a very reliable 2nd season

Veronica  a year ago, I was choosing new car, sat in the third focus, adjusted the seat to suit me. I felt uncomfortable in it. As for the sedan body, the trunk is also implemented disgustingly. It takes a long time to explain in words, you have to see it.
In general, I didn’t like it at all, I didn’t even take it for a test drive.

Zhanna  The car is beautiful, but, like all its brothers, it is far ahead of the country of distribution....

Leonid  Good day, I actually really like this brand of car, it’s a Ford reliable car There are always parts for it, I bought a Ford here, the service is always excellent

Owner review Ford III: Ford 3 2012, Focus is not the same...

10 Dec 2013 ... Main selection criteria: price, quality, automatic transmission, ... No matter what the Sellers fill you with, there is a ROBOT on Focus 3.

Automatic transmission PowerShift from Ford is a preselective gearbox with two clutches and a dual clutch. One of the features of this gearbox is the smoothest possible gear changes, which occur without interruption of power.

The advantages of automatic transmissions PowerShift This includes reduced fuel consumption and improved vehicle dynamics.

Powershift Ford - operating principle

The design of this gearbox is a unit of dual parallel mechanical boxes transmissions that operate independently of each other. While driving, one part of the clutch engages even-numbered gears, and the other is responsible for engaging odd-numbered gears. This ensures that power loss is avoided, which increases the safety of operating a vehicle with an automatic transmission. It has been established that thanks to the use of PowerShift automatic transmissions, it is possible to reduce fuel consumption by 8%.

Power Shift gearbox diagram

What cars can Powershift be installed on?

This modification of preselective gearboxes is installed on Ford vehicles. PowerShift is structurally related to gearboxes with a wet clutch, as well as dry ones. This has a positive effect on the reliability and trouble-free operation of the gearbox. At the same time, it is necessary to remember about mandatory regular oil changes (regarding wet boxes). If the car owner neglects the oil change procedure, problems may arise with cooling and lubrication of a large number of moving parts.

The Powershift gearbox is compact and can be installed on a variety of vehicles

Due to its compact size, the PowerShift automatic transmission can be installed with equal success in both the powerful Mondeo sedan and compact Ford Focus cars. Automatic transmission can be used with a longitudinal or transverse engine arrangement. This allows you to significantly expand the number of Ford and Volvo car models on which this transmission modification is installed.

Automatic transmission Powershift control

The Ford Powershift transmission is controlled entirely electronically. Built-in automatic systems monitor the oil pressure, its temperature and the rotation speed of the internal shafts and couplings. The computer brain (mechatronics) correlates engine speed and vehicle speed. The electronics makes the decision to change gears and does it as quickly as possible. The gear change occurs in a split second and is completely invisible to the driver. There are completely no power interruptions, which increases safety when overtaking and other high-speed maneuvers. PowerShift transmissions have a manual shift function, which allows you to change gears at the request of the car owner. Note that some modifications of gearboxes involve the installation of special steering column switches on the steering wheel, allowing the car owner to change gears without the automatic transmission selector lever.

In “D” mode, the automatic transmission changes gears when the engine speed reaches 2500 - 3000 rpm. It is possible to enable a sports mode, in which the gearbox allows you to spin the engine to 5000 - 6000 rpm. At the same time, a special system is activated, which allows, even when manual gear shifting is activated, to protect the engine from prolonged operation at high speeds. In this case, the gearbox will not allow car owners to independently engage a lower gear, in which the engine will operate at its maximum characteristics. This ensures the longevity of both the transmission itself and the car engine. There is also a built-in oil temperature sensor, which not only determines the temperature of the lubricant, but also analyzes the quality of lubricating compounds. If necessary, the automation warns the car owner about existing problems with the transmission.

What kind of oil to fill

What kind of oil was poured into the gearbox from the factory?

  • Catalog No. WSS-M2C200-D2
  • Transmission fluid volume -2.1 liter.

The recommended frequency at which it is necessary to change the oil in the gearbox is indicated in the vehicle's operating manual, but it should also take into account many other factors: season, pollution, weather conditions, intensity of vehicle use. Oil in the gearbox is needed for smooth operation, as well as to ensure that the gearbox gears do not rub against each other. The oil binds the products of corrosion and operation of the mechanical parts of the gearbox, and also removes heat from the parts.

What does the box look like from the inside?

The gearbox basically consists of two sections independent of each other.

When driving, one section of the gearbox is constantly kinematically closed, and in the other section the next gear is already engaged, but the clutch of this gear is still disengaged.
The input shaft consists of two parts and is the heart of the gearbox. It consists of an outer primary (hollow) shaft and an inner primary (central) shaft.
The input (hollow) shaft drives the even-numbered gears (2nd, 4th and 6th gears), as well as through the reverse idler gear.
The input (center) shaft drives the odd numbered gears (1st, 3rd, and 5th).
Both input shafts are connected respectively via external gearing to the clutch disc.

The transmission of torque is carried out through a corresponding clutch disc, located in parallel for both sections of the gearbox. For safety reasons, the double clutch is designed in such a way that it is open when at rest. This type of clutch is referred to as a so-called “closed clutch”. In closed clutches, the clamping force is zero until little or no force is applied to the lever spring. The clutches are equipped with an internal follow-up wear correction control, which allows the required stroke of the actuator and thus the required installation space to be kept within narrow limits. To dampen torsional vibration, torsional vibration dampers are built into the clutch discs. Drive pulley double clutch installed on the primary (hollow) shaft of the gearbox.

Powershift gearbox problems 6DCT250 - what can you encounter?

At the moment, the main problem is that the input shaft oil seal is leaking, oil gets into the clutch and slippage occurs. Thus, there were cases when the clutch engagement forks (actuators) jammed. If there is an oil leak from the gearbox, you need to replace 2 oil seals and the clutch itself. At the beginning of 2012, the firmware in the box was changed; before that, the Focus was annoying with jerks and vibrations - when starting, changing gears or driving at low speeds.

In most cases, problems with PowerShift arise due to improper operation of the gearbox and lack of proper maintenance. That is why, when operating this modification of gearboxes, it is recommended to carry out all necessary procedures for service transmissions. It is also necessary to warm up the gearbox winter time years, which will improve its lubrication and extend the trouble-free life of the automatic transmission.

Problems with the PowerShift transmission can also occur with an active and aggressive driving style. According to reviews from experts and owners of cars with this type automatic transmission gears, this transmission does not like fast driving and frequent gear changes.

Emergency mode

The TCM software has functions that take over control of the transmission if a serious malfunction occurs.
The choice of strategy used is made based on the nature of the fault.
The vehicle remains operational to a limited extent unless there is an error in the TCM itself or in the TR (transmission range) sensor.
NOTE: If the TCM module is faulty, both clutches are disengaged and further driving is no longer possible. If the TR sensor fails, the vehicle cannot be started, or the gearbox is in position N and further travel is no longer possible.
Depending on the gear position and the driving situation in which the fault occurs, different measures are taken.

If the motor that operates the clutch linkage fails, the TCM controls only the healthy motor. For example, if electric motor 1 fails, this transmission path is blocked (1st, 3rd and 5th gear). The TCM now only controls motor 2. It operates the reverse clutch, as well as 2nd, 4th and 6th gears via a linkage control element.

If the shift system or speed sensors fail, the reaction to the error can range from blocking individual gears and blocking the entire transmission path (even/odd gears) to the ability to drive only in the gear already engaged.

In emergency mode, the instrument panel displays a text message corresponding to the type of fault and/or the MIL ( warning lamp engine management system) and/or the transmission warning light is on.
When restarted (ignition off for approximately 15 seconds), a self-test is performed to check for errors in the system. If the fault then recurs, the emergency mode is reactivated. If there is no error, there will be no indication on the instrument panel and the MIL and/or transmission warning light will not come on. However, the fault remains in the TCM memory. In the event of a malfunction, it is recommended to continue driving along the shortest route to the workshop or park the vehicle in a safe place.
