If the temperature is from -7 0 C to +50 0 C (or more), then in the cell of the plate with the letter designation (C), you need to select 20W-50 motor oil. The selection of other viscosities of motor oils is carried out in a similar way.

Conclusion

Its ability to fill the gaps in the friction units of the motor, as well as the speed of pumping the oil through the lubrication system, depends on the density of the lubricant. The recommended engine oil for Kia Sportage is selected taking into account specifications power unit. The car manufacturer in the instruction manual draws attention to the need to take into account the season overboard vehicle. Based on the data in the tables of the manual, liquid oils are used for the winter, and thicker motor oils are poured for the summer. All-weather lubrication is intermediate between winter and summer fluids.

What kind of oil do you use in Sportage?

Service documentation is attached to any model of the purchased car, where the manufacturer indicates which engine, as well as transmission oil should be applied. In addition, the timing of its replacement is regulated. Therefore, if the owner of the car complies with all the requirements for servicing the engine and transmission, the car will serve for a long time without major repairs.

Lubricant and its properties

Engine oil for a 3rd generation KIA Sportage car must perform several basic functions that will ensure its uninterrupted operation and a long service life.

One of the most important characteristics is the viscosity index according to the SAE specification. Cars are equipped with petrol and diesel engines. Therefore, the designations of temperature-viscosity properties will differ. In addition, various gearboxes are installed in the cars - mechanical or automatic. These mechanisms also serve different brands of gear oils.

What oils are used

If you drive in city mode, without forcing the engine unnecessarily, Shell, Mobil or Castrol synthetic oils are used, as well as Hyundai. Depending on the degree of engine wear, the following viscosities of multigrade oils are used:

  • up to 25% of the resource - 5W30, 10W30;
  • from 25 to 75% - 5W30 or 10W40;
  • after 75% - 5

As the degree of wear increases, the high-temperature viscosity must be increased, since the gaps between the surfaces of the parts increase. Therefore, the lubricating film inside a running engine must be stronger and denser. In addition, this leads to a decrease in the waste of the lubricating fluid.

Below are the viscosity parameters of the oils, taking into account the fact that the engines will be operated in highly loaded modes with increased speed - that is, using a sporty driving style. If the KIA Sportage was released in 2014–2015, the following fluidity parameters are recommended for it:

  • in summer - 20W40, 25W50;
  • in winter - 0W40, 0W50;
  • all year round - 10W50, 15W40, 15W

For 2016 release:

  • summer - 15W50, 20W50;
  • winter - 0W50;
  • all year - 10W50, 5W

For those released in 2017:
  • summer oil - 15W50, 15W60;
  • winter - 0W50, 0W60;
  • all-weather - 15W50, 15W6

Obviously, the emphasis is on an increased high-temperature level of viscosity.

To determine the main characteristics of oils, specifications are used - the American API, as well as the European ACEA. For KIA Sportage 3 since 2014, the following API categories have been determined for oils:

How to change engine fluid

Given the Russian operating conditions, an oil change in the KIA Sportage 3 should be done every 7.5–8 thousand kilometers of travel. If a synthetic oil composition is flooded, the replacement rates recommended by the manufacturers should not be followed. Severe operating conditions (bad fuel, traffic jams, roads, dust) lead to rapid aging of engine oil. Therefore, the lubricant in the engine should be changed 2 times more often than stipulated by the regulations. The same goes for transmission fluid. automatic box gears.

To replace the lubricating mixture, you need to purchase a fresh synthetic oil in a volume of 4.2 or 6.5 liters. It all depends on which engine tray is installed. There are 2 capacity options - 4 and 6 liters. Also available oil filter. You should prepare a wrench for 17, a rag, a funnel, a metal brush, a container for waste liquid. Further work is carried out in accordance with the regulations.

  1. The engine warms up, the car is placed on a flyover, lift or above a viewing hole.
  2. The hood opens, the filler neck is unscrewed (see. Fig.).
  3. Under the bottom, the surface around the drain plug is treated with a metal brush.
  4. The wrench unscrews the drain plug, motor fluid poured into prepared container.
  5. The drain is twisted, after which the old oil filter is removed. The gasket is lubricated in the new filter, new grease is poured into it so that it is half full. Next, the filter is screwed on.
  6. The required amount of oil is poured into the filler neck through the funnel. Periodically, its level is checked with a dipstick.
  7. The motor starts and runs idle for a few minutes. Then the lubricant level is checked again - if necessary, topped up.

Some motorists constantly flush the engines after draining the waste. That is, the above procedure is repeated 2 times.

transmission fluids

In addition to the motor, lubrication is also needed for the transmission (gearbox, transfer case, differential and axles). For automatic transmissions, ZIC SP-4 fluid is used, reviews about it are very good. At the same time, the price is moderate. If you have a manual transmission, it’s good, for example, the French oil mixture Total Transmission Dual 9 FE 75W90 is suitable. Oil change in automatic transmissionKIA Sportage3 should be carried out every 40-50 thousand km of travel, or every 2 years.

Kia Sportage is a very innovative car in technical terms, therefore, the requirements for its maintenance are appropriate. For example, special attention should be paid to the quality of engine oil for the Sportage. When choosing an oil, it is advisable to take into account not only its type (synthetics, mineral water or semi-synthetics), but also such parameters as class, viscosity and tolerance. Consider the recommended parameters of the oil to be filled in separately for each generation of Kia Sportage.
