  • It is followed in the hierarchy by the 1.5-liter EcoBoost petrol “four” with a vertical architecture, turbocharging, intake and exhaust phase shifters, direct “power supply” and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which is announced in two versions:
    • 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of available torque at 1600-4000 rpm;
    • 182 HP at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of potential limit at 1600-5000 rpm.
  • The “junior” diesel version is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder EcoBlue engine with a turbocharger and battery fuel injection, provided in two degrees of “pumping”:
    • 8-valve generates 95 hp at 3600 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1500-2000 rpm;
    • and 16-valve - 120 hp at 3600 rpm and 300 Nm at 1750-2250 rpm.
  • Rounding out the power palette is a 2.0-litre EcoBlue four-cylinder, turbocharged, injection system. common rail, whose performance is 150 hp. at 3750 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 2000-3250 rpm.

All motors are mated by default with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox, however, the 125-horsepower "troika" and 150-horsepower units as an option rely on an 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" with manual gearshift mode (via the steering column "petals") .

At the heart of the fourth generation Ford Focus is the global platform "C2" with transversely installed engine and a wide proportion of high-strength steel in the body structure.

MacPherson type independent suspension is mounted on the front axle of the hatchback. transverse stabilizer, but the layout of the rear depends on the modification:

The “fourth” Ford Focus will “reach” the Russian market no earlier than 2019, but in Germany it is already sold in the trim levels “Trend”, “Cool & Connect”, “ST-Line”, “Titanium” and “Vignale” at a price from 18,700 euros (~1.4 million rubles).

Externally, it has become more massive, but at the same time, the designers have made every effort to improve its streamlining. Instead of the usual forms, we see complex curves and swift lines. Against the general background, sections for fog lights stand out brightly, along the edges of which there are real air intakes, and not dummies, as can often be seen in this price segment.

The latest Ford Focus 4 actively supports a new direction in design, namely the rejection of abundant chrome elements. Therefore, on the front of the car it can only be found in the exclusive configuration of Vignale, sedan and station wagon. But even so, these will be minor elements, in the form of chrome strips on the grille or fog lamp surrounds.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the optics. In its appearance and functionality, it is almost the same as the one installed on the latest Volvo hatchbacks. It may not be original, but the double-deck headlamps fit perfectly into the overall sporty design, but more importantly, they perform their function perfectly.

The front view of the Ford Focus 4 has undergone much fewer changes, but they are also striking. The designers tried to visually expand the arches and add a sporty “muscularity” to the car. They more than succeeded. The side of the car looks no less aggressive than the front. The glazing line has also changed. She received a teardrop shape, which visually narrows the roof as it approaches the trunk. Thus, the car seems to be lower, which again should emphasize its sporty orientation.

Fans will also be surprised by new wheels for Ford Focus 4. First of all, they are large: 17 inches in the base and up to 19 inches in the maximum configuration. The rear window has noticeably decreased, in particular, due to the enlarged spoiler visor. An exception, perhaps, is the sedan version, where the glazing line has grown decently.

The rear optics, instead of a smooth teardrop shape, received a strict, sporty design, with the same angular backlight pattern. A similar solution can be found in almost all competitors in the segment and it looks really good. The bumper has become wider, and almost completely lost its smooth transitions. In general, the design of the novelty turned out to be successful. Although the car has lost a bit of its former originality, it looks quite interesting and not boring in its price segment.

Salon and interior

To say that the interior of the new Ford Focus 4 has changed will be fundamentally wrong. It has been completely redesigned and for many, these innovations will appeal to you. Previously, motorists, including fans of the model, condemned the previous generation for the Kinetic Design interior, or rather, for its inappropriate bulkiness and futurism. It was replaced by minimalism, which is popular today.

Center panel and console

The most noticeable changes were the front panel and center console. So, they have become much smaller and no longer take up so much free space, at least visually. The front panel itself is divided into three conditional levels. At the very top there is a classic instrument panel, a large (in the maximum configuration as much as 8 inches) multimedia screen and a minimal set of keys responsible for controlling the multimedia system.

By the way, the latter has acquired support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto. To the delight of orthodox drivers, the instrument panel is classic, the company's engineers are not yet ready to offer electronic counterparts in this price segment. Instead, you can be content with a projection screen.

At the second level of the front panel, there are now a minimum of elements: control of electric glass lifts along the edges of the doors, a classic set of headlight adjustments and a small climate control panel with two analog displays.

Well, at the very bottom you will find a miniature, compared to the previous generation, central panel. Now there is enough space on it to place the phone and a lot of other necessary things. The automatic transmission selector, familiar to many, was replaced with a washer. You may have to get used to this decision, but it looks very stylish and organic. In addition to the puck, the panel has control buttons for electronic assistants (when descending, ascending, and even off-road), a set of necessary connectors (AUX, USB, wireless charging for a smartphone), as well as an electronic handbrake. In all this update, the steering wheel was the only element intact.

The controls are now divided into several groups: multimedia, climate control, suspension and transmission, optics and ESP. It is impossible to get lost in them, but more importantly, they are all in their usual places and a couple of hours of driving is enough to get used to them.

The new Ford Focus 4 body received a more extensive glazing line. The front struts became noticeably thinner and the center console decreased. All this has a beneficial effect on visibility. Now the car has become even easier to drive.

As for the seats, Ford once again borrowed the design from Volvo, installing "innovative" headrests and special seatbacks. How did it affect them? Reliable lateral fixation, proper fit, the presence of all adjustments, which already become electronic from the middle configuration, made them only better.

Innovations will be noticeable not only to the driver, but also to passengers. Due to the new platform, the car has become noticeably more spacious. At the rear, passengers have as much as 50 mm of additional legroom and 60 mm in the shoulders, as well as 30 mm in height. Well, in the end it is worth talking about the luggage compartment. In the classic versions of the sedan and hatchback, it has remained virtually unchanged, but for fans of the Ford Focus 4 station wagon, a slight refinement awaits. The trunk has become higher, wider and longer by a couple of centimeters, but more importantly, the loading height has decreased by almost 5 centimeters. As for the equipment, it has everything you need: a 12V socket, a curtain, an optional dog net. There were no innovations. The rear seats are now equipped with the Easy Fold system. The driver can safely drive more than one hundred kilometers without feeling tired. But the back row can be a little disappointing for those who like to ride in a big company. All of the above engines have from one to two turbines. Gasoline models are also equipped with a gas-rotary mechanism phase change system. The youngest version 1.0 EcoBoost received a cylinder deactivation technology that is unique for the company and this segment. It allows you to turn off one of the cylinders when there is no need for full power. Turning on and off takes place in 14 milliseconds.

Ford also promised to revise the multimedia system, in particular, to redesign the design and improve performance. In addition, the new multimedia will support Android Auto and Apple Car - but this is rather not an advantage, but a necessity, a tribute to reality. Perhaps, to please the trends, the new Ford will get a fully digital instrument panel. As already mentioned, due to the increased dimensions of the body, the Focus 4 will become somewhat more spacious inside. Probably, following its main competitor in the C-class, the novelty will already be equipped with heated rear seats in the base.

While we're on the topic of drivetrain, let's take a look at the transmission and suspension. There is no unequivocal information from the manufacturer, which is strange. It is only known for certain that there is a 6-speed mechanical box gears and a 6-speed “robot”.
