Opel Astra Sedan: I don’t want to part with it. Opel Astra H sedan (Family) Weaknesses and disadvantages of the used Opel Astra H

Engine Opel Astra n 1.8 liter with a power of 140 hp, it is a very reliable naturally aspirated gasoline engine with dual system changes in valve timing. In addition to the Opel Astra h, this power unit can also be found on other Opel and Chevrolet models. Today we’ll talk in detail about the features and technical specifications motor.

The EcoTec series engine complies with Euro 5 environmental standards and is factory marked A18XER. The version that falls under the Euro 4 environmental class is called Z18XER. The 1.8 liter engine for Astra appeared back in 2005. Today it has a twin brother, F18D4, which is produced in South Korea. The second plant where this unit is made is located in Hungary.

Device Opel Astra h 1.8

The basis of the engine design is a cast iron cylinder block. The cylinders are machined directly into the block. The 16-valve mechanism usually does not cause problems, since there are hydraulic compensators and there is no need to adjust the thermal clearance of the valves. The timing belt drive is based on the timing belt. But we’ll talk about the belt drive a little lower. The main feature of the engine can be considered a phase change system on both camshafts. It is this system that causes a lot of trouble. especially if you pour low-quality oil. After all, phase shifters work exclusively due to oil pressure, focusing on various sensors. If you hear a strange rattling sound (diesel sound) from under the hood, then do not rush to blame the hydraulic compensators; most likely it is the actuators of the CVCP variable valve timing system that have failed.

The operation of the CVCP phase change system is shown schematically in the following picture.

To answer this question, we decided to drive the Astra-N, which continues to be sold along with the new one, the one with the letter J. Moreover, we entrusted this to the tallest editorial employee: we need to find out whether the permanent increase in size is justified.

MODERN CLASSIC

How does she look?

“Why did you take an old car?” - An overly familiar neighbor met me on the threshold. Of course, with the release of the next generation, the predecessor model almost immediately begins to look slightly outdated - especially if the appearance of the heiress is radically different, as is the case with the Astra. But personally, I categorically disagree with my neighbor. Like almost our entire editorial staff, as well as friends, acquaintances and relatives who during this time managed to come into contact with the car. Moreover, in a 3-door body, the Astra-N, even today, seems more in line with the sporty spirit of the urban “lighter” than its plump heiress.

However, I cannot say that the sedan looks just as organic - the “tail” that seems to have been hastily fastened is too clearly visible. Nevertheless, thanks to the correctly found proportions - thanks to the base increased to 2.7 m - the car does not cause such rejection as the early experiments of designers in the field of creating similar sedans. Remember, for example, the first “Symbol” or “Peugeot 206 sedan”.

Quite soon, the practical advantage of both body shapes in general and the sedan in particular was revealed. For obvious reasons, the rear window does not require a wiper, and visiting a car wash even after a 200-kilometer country trip in the rain is not at all necessary - the white sedan looks pristinely clean from ten steps away. And even mirrors practically do not lose their ability to reflect reality.

The rather high ground clearance makes the sedan seem a little “long-legged”. However, decent ground clearance pleased me throughout our acquaintance - it’s difficult to find a curb in the city that will begin to grind the crankcase protection. And winter forays into the Sergiev Posad region proved that good tires you can safely follow crossovers in a rut one-third of a wheel deep. Miracles don’t happen, but you can “plant” a sedan only when you yourself feel that it’s not worth moving on alone.

Special thanks to the bi-xenon headlights. Not only do they look dapper, but they also have excellent range and stunning high beam: when, in addition to turning the curtain of the main headlight, an additional 55 W halogen is connected, you feel like a king in the winter forest.

DOWN WITH THE EXCESS!

What is it like inside?

I settled into the cabin pretty quickly. In addition to the musical accompaniment, you could entertain yourself in the Astra-N with telephone conversations through the standard audio system, and with optimal route, and familiarization with the menu of the on-board computer, which, among other things, manages the distribution of air flows.

Until recently, all this was on a fairly long list additional equipment. But in the spring a new price list appeared - all versions increased in price by 5,000 rubles, and only three packages assigned to each equipment version and bi-xenon headlights were left as options. By and large, my only regret is the impossibility of ordering ESP. Because the other amenities weren’t too pleasing. Luke rubbed the top of my head if I tried to straighten my back. Navigation, unlike that of the Insignia and Corsa, lacks a Russian-language interface and is not as detailed as we would like. And over the leather seats, which were, let’s say, not very pleasant to sit on in winter and summer, I would happily prefer the standard “Cosmo” upholstery, where the role of leather is played by its high-quality imitation, and at the points of greatest contact with the body you find “breathable” fabric .

I was never able to get used to quickly turning off or turning on the air conditioner at speed - there is no separate button, and it’s more expensive for me to be distracted from the road. At 190cm tall, I definitely missed the lower position of the seat cushion, and not just because of the sunroof - when fully upright, I found the sun visors in front of my eyes. For six months, I still couldn’t find the optimal driving position - I had to choose between the comfort of my back and visibility.

But there were no complaints about most of the controls, including the leather-wrapped steering wheel with a section suitable for my hands, as well as the automatic transmission selector that moves strictly in a straight line. If it weren’t for turning on the air conditioning through the on-board menu, I could call the ergonomics of the driver’s seat exemplary. This is not Insignia, where the number of buttons can give you a headache if you’re not used to it.

The noise insulation, outstanding for a golf class, is also impressive - even on the studded Hakkapeliitte-7 at 100 km/h you can hear your neighbor muttering under his breath in the cabin. I was also pleased that the cabin was warming up at -15°C outside already by the seventh or eighth minute of the trip, and thanks to parking sensors and good visibility, maneuvering in reverse didn't create any problems. The only pity is that the operation of the sensors could only be heard - unlike, say, Volkswagen, the color monitor does not duplicate them.

DO NOT GET OLD WITH YOUR HEART

How is she driving?

The duet of a 1.8-liter 140-horsepower “four” and an “automatic”, in which there are only four stages, is optimistic for me, who managed to get hooked on the “turbo” in small volumes and the newfangled “de-es-ge”, of course, didn't call. But time passed, and little by little I began to remember the forgotten delights of the classic combination - a guaranteed winter start, fast warm-up while driving and even the ability to “anneal”. Yes, yes, don’t be surprised, in comparison with the new Astra, its predecessor will in no way lose face.

I can responsibly declare that it is too early to discount the time-tested 1.8-liter engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to the “Sport” button, the automatic transmission maintains a lower gear, and the engine reacts much more energetically to the position throttle valve, and under certain circumstances this pair is more agile than the new duo. After all, the 6-speed “automatic” of the modern sister tends to save fuel, and therefore quickly engages the highest gear. And if you urgently need to accelerate, say, from 60 km/h, a second or even more delay is guaranteed to you, while the 4-speed operates without annoying hesitation.

In addition, the “old” car, according to my neighbor, handles turns better than the Astra-J - the rolls are less pronounced, and the steering wheel is a little more informative. No one demands such qualities from a family sedan, and yet its potential capabilities cannot but rejoice.

When driving evenly, even in combination with a 4-speed automatic transmission, which on country highways is sorely lacking in 5th gear (at 100 km/h the tachometer already shows 3000 rpm), from the 1.8-liter Ecotek you can achieve a consumption of 7–7.5 liters per 100 km. But as soon as you overtake a couple of times or get stuck in a traffic jam, the engine begins to show a remarkable appetite. And yet, the average fuel consumption of 11.5 liters, provided that 80% of the mileage was in Moscow, including winter, can be called more than acceptable.

Approximately half of the refuelings were made with AI-92. In winter, with more careful driving, at most half a pedal, the car loses some dynamics. But cheaper gasoline consumes almost the same amount as more expensive gasoline. If you hurry, then the 7% difference in price between the 92nd and 95th will no longer cover the fuel consumption that increases by 10–12% in this case.

WHERE IS HIS BUTTON?

What is she carrying?

It is generally accepted that a hatchback is a priori more functional than a classic sedan. However, I calmly loaded the stroller into the separate trunk of the Astra, and my wife and daughter sat down on the sofa without any embarrassment, which also has standard Isofix mounts for a child seat. Moreover, in addition to the carriage, a 2-week supply of provisions could easily be stored in the hold. And a jar of lightly salted cucumbers that accidentally spilled revealed another advantage of the trunk being separated from the living compartment - we only found out that the incident had happened when we opened the lid.

However, there were also reasons to grumble. The trunk opening button is located exactly in the middle of the center console - reaching deep into the cabin with bags in your hands is extremely inconvenient. There is no separate button for the trunk lid on the remote control, but if you hold the unlock key central lock more than 3 seconds, the hold can also be unlocked remotely. But the problem is that in the cold the remote control did not always respond the first time. I had to reach for the key in the cabin again, staining my trousers.

High-quality car trim materials and many amenities make the Opel interior Astra place, which is pleasant to stay in for a long time. Even a long trip will be a joy, since everything you need is provided for it: an orthopedic sports seat that provides a comfortable fit, as well as a dual-zone climate control system, a multimedia complex with a color screen, cup holders, bottle holders and other things.
The sedan’s interior does not take up any free space, thanks to the following dimensions of the car:

  • length - 4.658 m;
  • width - 1.814 m;
  • height - 1.5 m;
  • wheelbase - 2.685 m;
  • ground clearance - 165 mm.

The car trunk holds at least 460 liters. luggage, and with the rear seats folded down it includes up to 1010 liters.

Engines

For the excellent technical characteristics of the Opel Astra, it is worth saying thanks to two gasoline units with low fuel consumption per 100 km. These engines:

  • engine with a volume of 1364 cm3, producing 140 hp.
  • machine engine, available in 2 power options - 115 and 180 hp. Engine capacity - 1598 cm3.

With any of them, confident acceleration to 100 km/h is guaranteed. The gearbox here is a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Equipment

The new Opel Astra will give you a lot of unforgettable impressions, because in its “arsenal”:

  • cruise control system;
  • audio system with AUX and USB port;
  • Bluetooth;
  • ABS and ESP;
  • seats with heating function;
  • anti-fog optics
  • etc.

Selling Opel Astra at the Central car dealership

It's easy to become the owner of a new car! You just need to get a car loan at a low interest rate or interest-free installments. Buy Opel Astra from official dealer Various promotions, discounts, recycling programs or the Trade-in system will also help.

I read it in the magazine “Behind the Wheel” and it turns out it’s not so bad. Maybe someone will find it useful, I'll leave it on the forum.
With the advent of the new Opel Astra, the previous model with the factory index H, still in production, received a prefix to its name: “Family”.

Opel Astra H

Buying a new car is a pleasant thing, but very expensive. Those who want to save money are looking for a car at secondary market– it’s cheaper here. For a purchase to be successful, you need to know what to pay close attention to.
NERVOUS BREAKDOWNS

It’s relatively easy to improve the mileage on an Astra; just replace the instrument panel with a newer one. Don't rely on the odometer readings! It’s better to compare the mileage with the marks in the service book by asking the dealer to check the authenticity of the maintenance in the database. At the same time, order a full diagnostic - it’s not that expensive compared to the price of the “pig in a poke” itself. By the way, there is an unspoken rule: if specialists find only defects honestly named by the seller, the diagnostics will be at your expense, and if hidden defects are found, the “forgetful” seller will pay. You just need to agree on this in advance.
The Opel electrics contain many electronic units that communicate with each other via a multiplex (CAN bus), which makes troubleshooting difficult in everyday conditions. And they do happen. Either the ceiling lamp lights up for no reason, or the immobilizer stops recognizing the original key. As a rule, it is enough to remove the terminal from the battery for a couple of minutes, and everything will return to normal.
More often than others, the steering column CIM module fails: you press the horn, but it is silent. Other buttons located on the steering wheel also sometimes do not work, and the audio center may stop responding to its own controls. At an early stage, the defect was random in nature, so it was not possible to determine the cause for a long time. We replaced the module under warranty, soldered the contacts, assembling one block from several, but it didn’t help. As a result, they came to a simple and reliable solution: in 2009, they introduced a steel U-shaped bracket that compresses the halves of the body and ensures reliable contact. For reference: the price of such a piece of iron is only 8 rubles.
Make new key replacing the lost one will cost a lot - 5,700 rubles including firmware (this is what they call the process of “getting to know” the key with the immobilizer). In this case, you will definitely need a personal car card (Car-Pass) - take care of it like the apple of your eye.

MUSCULOCAL SYSTEM

There were many engines installed on Asters, but only the Z16XER and Z18XER (1.6 and 1.8 liters, respectively) took root in our market. They have a timing belt drive, so if you have doubts about the authenticity of the mileage, replace them immediately. Until recently, the belt resource was 150 thousand km, but recently it has been officially reduced to 120 thousand km. We change the rollers without hesitation.
The most troublesome thing is the ignition module, which is inserted with its leads directly into the spark plug wells. Over time, the ends crack (this also happens when replacing spark plugs carelessly), and then you’ve arrived. Another reason is untimely replacement of spark plugs. According to the regulations, it is supposed to be done every 30 thousand km, but it happens that by that time the central electrode is significantly shortened due to erosion, causing the spark gap to increase. Accordingly, the breakdown voltage increases and the module burns out. We recommend checking the spark plugs at every service (15 thousand km) and adjusting the gap. It’s a good idea to carry a spare module with you, in a secure package so that it doesn’t break while flying around the trunk.
The service life of an air conditioning compressor is unpredictable: some units last 150 thousand km without complaints, others fail even for new car. In half of the cases - due to a break in the clutch winding. Replacement does not always help, because the new unit may well end up with the same defect. Therefore, it is advisable to “ring” the winding with a tester before purchasing.
The diode bridge of the generator usually burns out due to the owner’s oversight: he damaged the right mudguard of the engine compartment somewhere in a rut and did not replace it in time. Through the hole, dirt flies straight onto the generator, clogging its insides. Of course, both the unit itself and the poly-V-belt driving it cannot withstand it.
On cars produced in 2005–2007 with a 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission, serious problems were created by the engine cooling radiator combined with the gearbox heat exchanger: due to the destruction of the partitions, the oil was mixed with antifreeze. If such a cocktail is very undesirable for a motor, then for a machine gun it is deadly! In those years, a recall campaign was carried out to replace radiators, and in advanced cases, the complete boxes were also replaced. Later they began to be repaired, for which the manufacturer accredited a number of third-party companies that operate on an official basis to this day. They don’t sit idle, because even with a working cooling system, the service life of the machine barely exceeds 160 thousand km. Mechanical gearboxes last approximately the same amount of time, regardless of the version (there are five of them), as well as the clutch.
Two types of steering racks were installed on Asters - with electric and electro-hydraulic power, and in different modifications, which even experts lost count of. Some mechanisms please with adequate effort and clear feedback on the steering wheel, others, to put it mildly, not so much. The main complaints about the electric power steering system: even a serviceable unit does not work perfectly, and sometimes fails due to overheating. Well, at least it doesn’t steer wherever it wants! To return the mechanism to working condition, you need to wait until it cools down.
Regardless of the amplifier version, we carefully monitor the steering rods: by 60 thousand km, play is already noticeable in them (they are replaced separately). The tips are unlikely to require attention up to 150 thousand km. In the front suspension it is conditional weak link They call the support bearings of the struts - they become clogged with dirt and begin to crunch. As a rule, dirt penetrates during a sharp rebound movement, for example, when driving off a curb, when the seal does not have time to follow the downward strut parts, leaving a gap-hole. Moral: it is better to push on speed bumps at low speed.

The front sensors are most often to blame for the failure of the anti-lock braking system, and they cannot be replaced separately from the hub. Less often, the hub has to be replaced due to bearing wear. Both of these are not cheap. There are no complaints about the rear hubs.
But the shock absorbers in the rear often sweat; but this does not affect the efficiency of their work - you don’t have to rush to change them.
"ASTRA": LOGICAL FORECAST

The cost of maintaining the basic model is, although higher than that of some competitors ( ZR, 2011, No. 12 ), but remain quite acceptable. The sports modification of the OPC does not lend itself to such an accurate forecast, since a lot here depends on the driving ambitions of the previous owner. Of course, in general these cars get much more, especially in terms of brakes and clutch.
The compact van "Zafira V", built on the basis of the "Astra N", has a similar list of diseases, however, problems with the engine radiator and support bearings of the struts did not affect it, since there is a different set of components and assemblies, and some suspension parts have also been strengthened. Therefore, when you are convinced that cars built on the same platform suffer from the same birth defects, know that this is not always the case.

We thank the Armand company in Gostinichny Proezd (Moscow)
for assistance in preparing the material.

Paintwork The bodywork as a whole is not satisfactory, however, on some cars produced in 2005–2006, rust appears on the trunk lid and lower door trim. Tarnished chrome is common. All the buttons on the steering wheel of this car are still working flawlessly thanks to the ingenuity of the owner - he covered the halves of the CIM steering column module housing with bandage rubber. A smart alternative to the branded U-shaped bracket! In the rear suspension with an H-shaped elastic beam, the main attention is paid to the shock absorbers: by 100 thousand km they can leak. Brake pads last for 60 thousand km. Pay attention to the good plastisol coating on the bottom - it resists salt very well.
The most popular engine is the Z16XER: we recommend checking the spark plugs at every maintenance and, if necessary, adjusting the gap. Be careful with the ignition module: the product is quite fragile. Some dealers advise washing injectors at every maintenance, but you need to make a decision wisely: if there are no complaints, you should not interfere with the established mechanism. Front suspension: ball joints are riveted to the arms, which is reasonable on this model: the service life of the supports, silent blocks and the arms themselves (due to fatigue cracks) is approximately the same - under 180 thousand km. Brake pads wear out by 30–40 thousand km, discs last twice as long. The air conditioner compressor clutch is not known for its reliability: a winding break or interturn short circuit is possible. Replacing it is easy because there is an automatic serpentine belt tensioner.

In 1991, the Opel Kadett was replaced by a new generation of “golf-class” models with a sonorous name - Astra (translated from Latin as “star”).

The first generation Opel Astra (designated F) offered a wide range of modifications consisting of 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, a 4-door sedan, a 5-door Caravan station wagon and its commercial 3-door cargo version (without rear glass). At the same time, sports modifications also debuted: GT, equipped with a 2-liter engine (115 hp), and the most powerful 16-valve GSI -2.0 liter (150 hp). It is noteworthy that the GSI version was produced not only in the traditional version (3-door hatchback), but also as a 5-door Caravan station wagon. Two years later, the range was expanded with the new four-seater Astra convertible.

Impressive selection power units. All are 4-cylinder, in-line, with a volume of 1.4 to 2 liters. Two diesel engines - Opel 1.7 l (60 hp) and Japanese Isuzy turbodiesel 1.7 l (82 hp). The most common in Russia is the 1.6-liter Gas engine with central injection (C16NZ).

Most of the cars were equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission; Astras with a 4-speed automatic transmission are much less common.

The interior of the car creates a pleasant impression. It is distinguished by simple lines, but everything is quite functional and practical. High-quality materials were used in the decoration. The seats are quite comfortable and have good lateral support. The dashboard is very elegant, and the center console, for greater convenience, is slightly turned towards the driver. The front seats have a wide range of adjustments to allow you to find the optimal driving position.

Moderately soft and comfortable chassis The Opel Astra does not cause any trouble while driving, and thanks to the installation of a stabilizer lateral stability The cars in front and behind hold the road well. The front suspension is independent - McPherson type, and the rear suspension is semi-independent with a separately installed spring and shock absorber. Brake system It is very effective, and cars of recent years of production were equipped with an ABS system as standard. Most Astras have front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, and sports modifications have front and rear disc brakes.

The volume of the luggage compartment is unrivaled. The 3- and 5-door hatchbacks have a trunk volume of 360 liters, the 5-door Caravan station wagon has 500 liters, with the rear seats folded down 1200 liters and 1630 liters, respectively.

In 1994, the car was restyled and its appearance was slightly changed. The quality of the interior trim was improved, and an airbag appeared in the steering wheel. The exterior of the restyled Astra featured a new false radiator grille.

In 1997, the second generation Opel Astra (G) was presented for the first time in Frankfurt. It is noteworthy that not a single important detail was taken from its predecessor. Opel offered a car that was completely redesigned. Design, ergonomics, ride quality, functionality, quality of interior finishing have been greatly improved. Astra was offered in three body types: two hatchbacks - three- and five-door and a station wagon. Astra sedan appeared only a year later.

In the fight for consumers, Opel offers wide choose modifications. Astra could be anything: sedate and fast, family and individual. A mass-produced car had to please buyers with different needs. Body new Astra has excellent aerodynamics. Coefficient drag Cx is only 0.29. The strength of the body has increased. Its torsional rigidity has increased significantly compared to the body of the old Astra. We also note that about 20 grades of steel are used in the body of the new Astra. The second generation features significantly improved anti-corrosion resistance. Opel provides a 12-year warranty against perforation corrosion.

Safety is ensured by seat belts and four airbags - two front and two side, hidden in the backs of the front seats. The design of the pedal assembly is similar to that found on the Opel Vectra. If during an impact the deformation touches the pedals, they do not move, but simply fall off: the brackets become crushed and “release” the pedals.

For the first time in the small middle class, the Astre G was equipped with a rear steering suspension, which ensures stable behavior of the car in sharp turns.

The interior space of the cabin is sufficient to comfortably accommodate five passengers.

Compared to the previous model, the number of modifications was slightly reduced, since the convertible was discontinued. But there are still a sedan, a three- and five-door hatchback, as well as a Caravan station wagon.

Gasoline power units were borrowed from the previous model, but the range diesel engines replenished with new 2.0-liter turbodiesels producing 82 hp. (or 101 hp in the version with direct fuel injection).

In 1999, based on the Astra model, with the help of a designer atelier Bertone was created a new version- with Coupe body. A year later, it went into production, and in 2001, the Opel Astra Cabrio was also produced on the basis of this car. Both of these modifications, despite the relatively low price, are a kind of exclusive, because they are assembled by hand at the Bertone factory.

The body of the Opel Astra Cabrio looks equally swift both with the top up and down. Has excellent aerodynamics. The drag coefficient Cx, even with the roof down, does not exceed 0.32. The roof of the new convertible folds and unfolds automatically, and only in the basic version the roof edge is attached to the windshield With mechanical locks, more advanced models have automatic locks and the roof can even be controlled remotely.

The car is equipped with three types of 1.6 petrol engines; 1.8 and 2.2 liters. The last of the power units debuted on the Opel Astra Coupe and was developed jointly by engineers from several departments General concern Motors, it will be installed not only on coupes and convertibles, but also on other cars of the auto giant. The engine meets Euro IV toxicity standards.

The second generation was discontinued in 2003. The era of the third generation of Astra cars has begun.

The distinctive features of the new Astra are more rapid body lines, as well as new head and rear optics, made in the style Opel models Signum. The interior of the new product is different high quality materials used and stylish design. The third generation is built on a completely redesigned platform and includes a three- and five-door hatchback, as well as a station wagon (Caravan) and a convertible.

The range of engines is represented by: petrol engines 1.4 l (90 hp), 1.6 l (105 hp), 1.8 l (125 hp) and 2.2 liters, as well as 1, 7- and 2.2-liter turbodiesels. Buyers are offered a choice of a five-speed manual transmission, a five-speed sequential electronic automatic transmission (Easytronic), a four-speed classic automatic transmission or a new six-speed manual transmission (for the turbo version). Suspension: McPherson front, dependent rear.

Cargo compartment volume of Opel Astra Caravan latest generation will be 580 liters, which is 50 liters more than the previous generation model. We also note that this new product will also offer the FlexOrganizer system, which allows optimizing the placement of luggage in the cargo compartment, which first appeared on the Opel Vectra station wagon.

It should also be noted that the new generation of this model meets all modern requirements safety and received many new passive and active safety systems, including adaptive airbags.

The new Opel Astra has an impressive range of basic and additional options for its class. The Opel Astra is equipped with an adaptive electronic suspension control system (IDSPlus); system of continuously variable control of its characteristics (CDC); The IDS plus system ensures good dynamic performance of the car when entering the sport mode, which can be activated by simply pressing a special button.

For the first time, cars of this class are equipped with an adaptive headlight control system (AFL) and a system for automatically turning them on when the road illumination decreases.

In 2004, Opel introduced the Astra GTC (Gran Turismo Compact). The target group of buyers of this car consists of both lovers of fast driving and connoisseurs of sophisticated automotive style. Proportions of the GTC, which is shorter basic version by 15 mm, emphatically dynamic. The eye is attracted by the short overhangs of the body and the rear part, which is more prominent than that of the five-door Astra. The sloping roof, triangular side windows and powerful sidewalls are designed to speak of the combat character of the car.

From the prototype, the production car received not only the general outline, but also a wonderful glass roof, which can be ordered as additional equipment. The large glass area of the body gives a good overview.

High ergonomics of the driver's seat and interior trim made from high-quality materials emphasize the advantages of the car. Designers provide several interior options: from classic gray and black to bright red and blue. The Astra GTC is offered in three performance levels: Enjoy, Cosmo and Sport.

Despite the fact that the car has become shorter than the five-door version, two adult passengers can comfortably sit in the back. The trunk volume remains unchanged – it remains 380 liters. But due to the fact that the rear seats fold in a ratio of 60:40 as standard or 40:20:40 as an option, the luggage compartment space can be modulated.

The car's standard equipment includes front and side airbags, a CD player, ABS, electric windows, heated exterior mirrors, an anti-dust bag, Break Assistant and other equipment. Options include the increasingly popular CD radios with the ability to play MP3 files, as well as electronic systems ESP and HAS.

The Astra GTC is available with a wide range of engines, consisting of five petrol and three diesel engines, equipped with a common-rail system. Engine power varies from 90 to 200 hp, all of them comply with Euro 4 standards in terms of exhaust purity.

In the line of gasoline power units, the flagship is a 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. With it, the Astra GTC reaches a top speed of 234 km/h. Among turbodiesels, the top one is the 1.9-liter engine with 150 hp. With. These versions are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and adaptive suspension Interactive Driving System (IDSPlus) with electronic control of shock absorber stiffness.

The Astra GTC is equipped with adaptive AFL headlights that adjust the light beam depending on the steering angle of the front wheels. Using the SportSwitch button, the driver can activate the sport mode, which adjusts ground clearance and accelerator settings. In general, everything is for driving pleasure.

The three-door Astra GTC is produced in Belgium, in Antwerp. The station wagon and hatchback are also assembled there.

The new generation of Opel Astra was presented during the 2009 Frankfurt Salon. The 2010 Astra five-door hatchback is based on GM's new front-wheel drive Delta II platform. The length of the car's wheelbase compared to its predecessor has increased by 71 millimeters (to 2685 millimeters), and the front and rear tracks have widened by 56 and 70 millimeters, respectively. In addition, the angular stiffness of the front and rear suspension has increased, and the body has become stiffer by 43 percent in torsion and 10 percent in bending.

Astra 2010 bears little resemblance to its predecessor - both inside and outside. The new model did not inherit almost a single detail. A new generation and a completely new appearance. Quadrangular headlights have given way to complex-shaped optics with LED lights, the radiator grille is made in the Insignia style, and the general shape of the fog lamp sections and the lower air intake remains the same, but is slightly “modernized”. Even in the five-door version, the car has become noticeably sportier - a dynamic roofline, a strongly sloping rear window, enhancing the “compartment” effect, deep stamping on the doors, sharp edges of the hood and fashionable LEDs in the headlights.

The interior is pleasing to the eye and pleasant to the touch. The main motive is the softness and logic of the lines and the “cockpit” concept: the interior elements seem to surround the driver. We are pleased with the pleasant-to-touch finishing materials, sports seats from Insignia (optional), diffused red lighting of the door handles and the central tunnel in the area of the gearshift lever, and many compartments for small items, which the predecessor so lacked. There are pockets on the doors, a “shelf” on the center console, a spacious box under the front passenger seat, a niche to the left of the steering wheel, as well as cup holders with a secret “underfloor” that can fit mobile phone, wallet or GPS navigator. The manufacturer has significantly improved the sound insulation of the cabin. New seals were installed, hollow sections in the body were insulated, and the aerodynamics of external elements such as rear-view mirrors and even door handles were worked out in detail.

Astra 2010 has become not only more practical, but also more spacious - the new interior is wider both at passenger shoulder level and at hip level, and the range of adjustments for the front seats is simply enormous: the front seats move forward and backward by 28 centimeters, and up and down by 6.5 centimeters.

Depending on the configuration, the interior can be decorated differently. In the basic version of Essentia, the center console is made in dark colors, and the seats have fabric upholstery with a contrasting pattern of pillows and inserts on the backs. In the Enjoy modification, the inserts on the doors and console can be made in black, red or blue. In Sport, the center console, door handles and trims around the air vents have a piano black finish. The Cosmo version offers different seats and a two-tone console trim. If desired, you can now order a heated steering wheel.

To please practical drivers, Opel engineers came up with the FlexFloor system. Simply put, this is a movable trunk floor that can be located on three levels and can withstand a load of up to 100 kilograms. In the lower position, it is just a regular cover, level matching the curtain covering the repair kit. On average, the shelf is installed flush with the folded rear seatbacks, eliminating a step and making it easier to accommodate long items. Due to the fact that the floor level is slightly raised, an additional compartment with a depth of 55 millimeters and a volume of 52 liters is formed under the shelf. In the highest position, the shelf aligns the floor of the luggage compartment with the rear bumper, which allows you to load heavy cargo into the trunk without bending. The section under the shelf in this case increases its volume to 126 liters and its depth to 157 millimeters. In short, the FlexFloor system allows you to intelligently distribute space in the trunk. For the cheapest versions, FlexFloor will be offered as an option.

The wide range of Ecotec engines proves that in the 2010 Opel Astra it is possible to combine high power and driving dynamics with fuel efficiency And low level harmful emissions. The car is equipped with naturally aspirated petrol engines (1.4 Ecotec/101 hp and 1.6 Ecotec/116 hp), as well as compact turbocharged engines with a maximum power of 1.4 l/140 hp. and 1.6 l/180 hp. respectively. All of them are built using 16-valve technology and equipped modern systems, optimizing the parameters of the inlet air flow. The engines are manufactured using lightweight materials and designs that minimize their weight. Modern manual transmissions (5 or 6-speed) are combined with gasoline engines. In addition, all engines except the 1.4 Ecotec can be used with a new 6-speed automatic transmission gears with ActiveSelect function. The range of diesel units is represented by three engines: 1.3 l/95 hp, 1.7 l 110 hp. and 125 hp and 2.0 l/160 hp.

The 2010 Astra's chassis combines a MacPherson strut front suspension, similar to that found on the Insignia, and a newly developed intelligent torsion beam rear suspension with Watt linkage. This new design reduces unwanted noise and vibration for improved interior comfort and improves vehicle handling.

Another innovation is the optional FlexRide adaptive suspension. The chassis is controlled by a specially designed chassis mode control (DMC) that recognizes 11 different driving situations, such as constant high or low speed, cornering or acceleration. Based on this, it automatically optimizes the parameters of all driving assistance systems integrated in the vehicle's chassis. Another key component of the FlexRide system is Dynamic Control (CDC), which adjusts suspension stiffness in real time based on changing vehicle operating conditions. It operates in three modes: automatic (Standart), sport (Sport) and comfortable (Tour). In the first case, the chassis adapts to the road situation and driving style - the electronics independently decide whether to leave the softest settings for a better ride or, conversely, increase the steering force and make the shock absorbers stiffer.

In Sport mode, white backlight dashboard changes to red, the steering wheel becomes “heavier”, responses to pressing the gas pedal and the reaction of the adaptive headlights become more intense. Moreover, the driver, through the on-board computer, can disable one of these parameters by customizing the Sport mode for himself. Tour mode is the most comfortable. It noticeably lengthens the response to the steering wheel, road unevenness is no longer transmitted to the body, and in sharp turns the car begins to roll. IN extreme situations the system automatically adjusts the suspension stiffness to provide the best handling and safety, regardless of the selected mode.

The elegant Opel Astra Sports Tourer station wagon will premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September 2010, combining first-class functionality with an athletic body and stylish design. The model is made in the same style as the 5-door hatchback and demonstrates the presence of smooth but athletic shapes and curved side lines. The impeccable profile and sidewall stampings add a sense of speed to the Astra Sports Tourer, and the powerful shoulder line flows laconically into the elegantly crafted rear lights. Station wagon taken from hatchback design features 105.7-inch wheelbase, optionally purchased increased performance load capacity and much more interior space.

Opel has developed a FlexFold rear seat system that allows you to move each section of the rear row with one press of a button located on the side panel of the luggage compartment. The button automatically activates the quick folding of the rear row seats in a 60/40 ratio. The Opel Astra Sports Tourer was the first C-Class car to be equipped with such a system. Luggage compartment volumes vary from 500 to 1550 liters. The Easy-Access Cargo Cover, borrowed from luxury models, allows the luggage compartment cover to be opened with a light touch.

The Astra Sports Tourer features high-quality interior trim. For comfortable travel over long distances, the car is equipped with ergonomic front seats, certified by independent experts on Spinal Health from Aktion Gesunder Rűcken (AGR), the German medical association that has established orthopedic requirements for car seats.

The rear axle of the new station wagon also benefits from the innovative rear suspension using Watt links, used in the 5-door Opel Astra: it provides a reliable level of handling and high adaptability to increased weight loads. Flexride adaptive suspension will be available as an option for the most demanding drivers.

If we talk about technical Opel specifications Astra Sports Tourer, the range of powertrains for the station wagon contains 8 engines that combine efficiency, strength, functionality and environmental friendliness. The maximum power ranges from 95 hp. up to 180 hp

The presence of a standard towing device and the Trailer Stability Assist trailer stabilization system complements the list of offered options. In addition, Opel engineers are developing a new generation of integrated bicycle racks, FlexFix, which will be presented a little later.

In 2011, Opel released the second generation of the three-door Astra GTC hatchback. The car stands out for its original design and excellent handling. Compared to the five-door version of the Astra, the ground clearance has been reduced by 15 mm, the front wheel track has become 1584 mm, which is 40 mm more, the rear wheel track has become 1588 mm, an increase of 30 mm, and the wheelbase has grown by 10 mm, up to 2695 mm. This allows the GTC to be equipped with larger wheels (from 17 to 20 inches), which contributes to increased stability and a sportier appearance.

There are some similarities with the 5-door version of the Opel Astra, but these two cars do not have a single common body part! Because everything has been changed: from the expression of the “face” to the inclination of the body pillars and even the chassis.

Excellent dynamics and first-class handling are achieved through a unique chassis design. Like the coolest Opel Insignia OPC, the front suspension of the Astra GTC uses modified MacPherson struts. Only here they are called HiPer Strut (from High Performance). Their main difference is the steering knuckle, separated from the rack. Its lateral inclination angle is less than that of an all-moving strut, which reduces the camber angle of the wheels when cornering. Their contact patch with the asphalt becomes larger, and turns can be taken faster. The steering knuckle itself is shorter than the strut, which reduces the sensitivity of the steering to shocks. The front suspension is perfectly combined with the sophisticated Watt rear suspension system, Opel's patented technology. The Astra GTC chassis has been specially designed to integrate with FlexRide, an intelligent adaptive suspension control system. It improves road stability, cornering stability and handling by automatically adapting to road conditions, vehicle speed and individual driving style. In addition, the FlexRide system allows you to select one of three chassis modes and change the behavior of the car at the touch of a button: you can choose at any time the balanced “Standard” mode, the comfortable “Tour” or the more active “Sport” mode.

The Opel Astra GTC is offered with a choice of four engines, three of which are petrol and one diesel. If the five-door engine range starts at 95 hp, then here it starts at 120 hp.

These are already known from the five-door petrol 1.4 liter turbo in versions of 120 and 140 hp. Fuel consumption is 5.9 liters per 100 km. CO2 emissions: 139 g/km. The most powerful gasoline engine is a 1.6-liter turbocharged version with a power of 180 hp, which allows you to reach speeds of up to 220 km/h, it is presented with a six-speed gearbox manual transmission transmission

The most promising engine for Europe, the 2.0 CDTi turbodiesel with Start-Stop mode, produces five horsepower and as much as 30 Nm more than the five-door: 165 hp. and 380 Nm. The Opel Astra GTC 2.0 CDTI is capable of reaching a speed of 210 kilometers per hour, accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.9 seconds, while consuming fuel in the combined cycle of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. CO2 emissions are 129 g/km.

Despite its attractive coupe-like design, the Astra GTC doesn't sacrifice functionality. The car not only seats five passengers, but also has a trunk volume from 370 to 1,235 liters. The amount of storage space in the cabin has increased by 50% compared to the previous generation GTC, mainly thanks to the presence of an electric parking brake, which freed up space in the most accessible part of the cabin - in the central tunnel.

The second generation Opel Eye television camera is intended to assist the driver. In addition to participating in the signal about falling out of lane, she learned to recognize more road signs and determine the distance to the car in front (depending on it, she also gives a command to switch the bi-xenon headlights from high to low).
